Taking Saka's penalties away as a negative, then using the fact that Palmer is a complete pen merchant is the definition of hypocritical. Palmer's particularly high usage rate at Chelsea, with eveything going through him is the only reason for his slightly higher non-penalty) output. Ridiculous.
I love Palmer (even as a Liverpool fan) but dropping Saka would be mental. He always shows up for England and his pace to the team is vital. Other than that the team was pretty much bang on, although I expect Gallagher or Trent to start ahead of Mainoo.
Lovely presented content but I totally disagree about Saka, there seems to be narrative to work hard to bleed the negatives in his game yet he has turned up for England as much as anybody in the last three years.
Saka is one of the first names on the team sheet, quite rightly. I would play either Grealish or Gordon on the left. Palmer would make a good super sub for Saka or Grealish.
Mainoos aint starting mate. He'll start Belling next to Rice and that will allow him to play Kane Foden Saka and Palmer. I think that is the best balance and Bellingham can always come forward. I think this attack is lethal.
It's fun to discuss who will be in the starting 11, but it's not actually that important. The teams always evolve during the tournament due to individual form, tactics, injuries, resting players, and tactical substitutions. With the talent England have, Southgate should be using this entire squad to its maximum potential and not focusing too much on 11 starting players.
Okay, I like your starting XI, and agree with most of it (especially since you've pretty much second-guessed Gareth Southgate's back four), but for me I'd do this, with a 4-1-3-2 formation: Pickford Walker Stones Branthwaite Trippier Rice Saka Bellingham Foden Kane Palmer I like Mainoo and think he'll be great off the bench, but I'd be happier with Rice sitting alone in front of the back four, linking the play &c, so we can play Saka and Foden with Bellingham across the middle, with Palmer partnering Kane (remembering Kane's time with Son at Spurs, I believe you get the best out of him with a strike partner - not sure whether Bayern did this last season so they might not agree). As for Harry Maguire, while I agree he's still a decent stopper, and a fair weapon at set pieces, he lacks pace and can be turned too easily. One defence splitting pass and any speedy striker is either past him or falling for a pen. Yes, throwing Branthwaite in is risky but he's undoubtedly a talented defender. Anyway, I enjoyed your video, and I think whoever we field, we should have enough to at least make the semis (and pray that someone does a Switzerland on France before they get there too). Cheers.
Nothing wrong with playing Palmer and Saka, it doesn’t have to be one or the other. Saka is a must on the right. Jude can rove all over the pitch for all I care.
Mainoo gets nowhere near my starting 11… ignoring the defence, these should be the remaining players: Rice, Trent, Saka, Foden, Bellingham, Kane (4-3-3) with Trent, Rice and Bellingham…Bellingham making forward runs
Foden has had more goals and more "clutch goals" this season than Foden. He scored against Real Marid when Bellingham didn't contribute against man city. Its PR that keeps Bellingham there not stats. Also Trippier will not be able to hold width in attacking areas without risking on the defense. So Foden will get pinned on the touchline even though he was the best player in the prem for playing in the pockets. Put him on the right instead of Palmer or Saka so he can play with Walker who will actually let him invert. Or play him in the middle like he has earned.
As an Arsenal fan hope şaka gets benched. England has a toxic fan base that’s going to ruin his confidence if he starts ahead of palmer. Let palmer have his shine and rest our star boy for next season
Saka for England:
- 10x MOTM / 32 caps
- 18 G/A / 32 caps
- 2x England POTY
- Scored 3 at the WC
The hate is forced

saka has to be one of the most disrespected english players ive ever seen
Not by the fans! The fans love him! Hard not to! He’s a great little player and he will be a guaranteed starter I would imagine
Almost half a century! No we beat that! It’s nearly 60 buddy! Hopefully finally we break that circle
Thete is no way in a million years that Southgate will start palmer ahead of saka
Saka is one of the first names on the team sheet, quite rightly.

Palmer on PL form has a case but he won’t drop Saka mate
Saka has been England's best player for the past 2 tournaments. You clearly haven't watched enough England games
Mainoos aint starting mate.

Reading all the comments lets you know how deluded England fans are and shows why they'll never win a tournament
Okay, I like your starting XI, and agree with most of it (especially since you've pretty much second-guessed Gareth Southgate's back four), but for me I'd do this, with a 4-1-3-2 formation:
Pickford
Walker
Stones
Branthwaite
Trippier
Rice
Saka
Bellingham
Foden
Kane
Palmer
I like Mainoo and think he'll be great off the bench, but I'd be happier with Rice sitting alone in front of the back four, linking the play &c, so we can play Saka and Foden with Bellingham across the middle, with Palmer partnering Kane (remembering Kane's time with Son at Spurs, I believe you get the best out of him with a strike partner - not sure whether Bayern did this last season so they might not agree).

Not while Southgate is in charge
The only two MUST start. Rice, Bellingham, all others can mix and match to cater for tactical requirement, especially the front.
58 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming
I agree with this team! Alternatively, play Bellingham in midfield next to Rice.
Do you think that this would be the team to play against France?
Liverpool fan here Saka is amazing

Nobody is better than Anthony Gordon at LW.
Nearly half a century! We beaten that! It’s nearly 60 !
Palmer starting over Saka??? Absolutely not. The only time I’d want to see palmer on the pitch is if England gets to penalties in a knockout round.

433
PICKFORD
ARNOLD KONSA STONES SHAW
RICE
FODEN BELLINGHAM
SAKA PALMER
KANE
Trent > kobbie
agree on palmer. but its pure stupid to think that Foden is good on left wing. He cannot do anything from there, not the pace.
Palmer needs to start whether on the rw or 10 he literally is class on every asset of the game and he’s the best PK in the country
He's never performed for England. No experience at a major senior tournament
Wharton should play imo

Please no Maguire or Trippier … prefer Gomez at lb tbh
Cole Palmer starting is just wrong
Please no Maguire or Trippier
you are wrong reg Trippier. Not good enough.
