    I usually used black fishing line and hung my planes on the ceiling which was great unless someone opened the bedroom window this caused a few accidental mid-air collisions and a fair bit of repairs and scrstchbuilding the missing parts.

    Just a random idea for a diorama / display. If the aircraft is displayed on approach to landing you could have it airborne /and/ with the wheels down. Might not work quite so well if the tyres have flat spots as they wouldn't in mid-air.

    Very impressive! That's a decent looking kit, and a very handy tip regarding the canopy assembly.... 👍
    Perhaps that's why a fair few people have commented on how fiddly, or poorly fitting, the canopy area is: They just needed your assembly sequence tip, and then wouldn't have had the issues!! 😆
    Great stuff Gary... Cheers! 👋

      @@crazylocha2515 I recall one Gary did recently where the designer Paramjit used the inner wing prior to fitting them together as a jig to construct the undercarriage. Really good idea and more kits should do that IMHO.

    Cheers Gary. I really enjoy watching your videos. I think it’s because you build Airfix out of the box, non of these expensive aftermarket parts. When I was a lad, well before the World Wide Web. The local newsagents only had Airfix. So yeh I’ll keep watching if you keep building, helps me with projects I’m doing or ones I’m interested in. So thank you for sharing.

    I think your idea for the last transparency was good ; your right ; if you dry fit you can see the bits of plastic that need removing or sanding etc then it fits better , I found fitting the top wing first worked better too . if fitting closed undercarriage paint first . it all shows through lol

    Another trio of concise and well researched presentations, Gary. Very different from Airfix's original 60s release that I built eons ago. However, who could not but be inspired by Mr Cross' lovely artwork depicting that duo of Free French machines.
    Lovely build. So different in black.👍

    • @garys_stuff

      I think, with all due respect to the talented Adam Tooby, many imaginations were stoked by the art of Roy Cross!

    • @markfranks1329
      @markfranks1329 Год назад +2

      @@garys_stuff That is certainly true. Mr Cross' work will have inspired a generation of school boys to spend their pocket money with great abandon!😄
      Can't forget Charles Oates who's artwork, I believe was not only responsible for a lot of Airfix's magnificent sailing ship subjects, but was also commissioned by Revell. They had lovely artwork, too. Remember their Fokker Eindecker with the pilot's head in the foreground? Beautiful and utterly original. That, I believe was Mr Oates.There was also, amongst Airfix's artist and illustrators, Howard Jarvis who provided the classic artwork for Airfix's 1/600 warships. Who could forget Suffolk, Campbeltown and Hotspur, to name a few?
      Warspite ploughing through tumultuous waves, with belching smoke stacks and firing off a crescendo of 15" guns! Lovely stuff!🙂

    Hi Gary, loving your channel and videos. I'm new to your channel and wondered do you prime all the parts first before you start assembling and what do you use as a primer?

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  Год назад +1

      Normally I give a kit a light coat of spray primer - I use Jenolite acrylic for plastics. It helps when I've got parts to paint on the frame, also helps when I'm looking at seams on a fuselage, of example.

    Hi.. a quick question about weathering, specifically rust. I think there's a difference between looking /used/ and looking /badly maintained/. Would ground crews really allow rust to develop on something they knew aircrew depended on for their lives? Wouldn't their professional pride in their jobs also stop it happening?

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  Год назад +2

      Not on something life-critical, but there will be a difference between "factory fresh" and "end of the first tour" where things that matter are pristine and things that don't are tatty. A definite culture of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". A lot of stuff is too difficult or time consuming to keep spotless when they either have a frequent inspect/maintain/replace schedule or are simply not critical to the mission. Unless you're in my Dad's squadron in 1950 where the CO wanted his planes spotless at all times, because that's what the Americans did.

  • @emmabird9745
    @emmabird9745 Год назад +1

    Hi Gary, very nice. I'm sure the "trumpets" in the engine fronts are carb intakes. I noticed them in vids of the flying Mk1. I suppose the one underneath must be the oil cooler. Good points about the collector ring and rust. Score one for Gary.
    Do you know which crew member doubled as rdf operator, and where the set was? From what i remember "cats eyes" and Jimmy flew in Mk1f and there was no mention of a third crew member?

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  Год назад

      It would have been the navigator - the AI screens were on the starboard side of the cockpit above where the bomb aimer's prone position would be on the bomber.

    • @emmabird9745
      @emmabird9745 Год назад

      @@garys_stuff Thanks Gary. Does that mean Airfix forgot the set? Do you know if there is a preserved NF1 or NF4 to have a good look at? I'm tempted by the Mk1 and it would be nice to rig up some sort of RDF set for the nose.
