    I've watched your videos for a while now. I found you because I've drooled over the Saturn Sky since I was a little kid. I always thought it was a great looking car, affordable, and was just downright fun. As I got older, I got good "economical" cars when I was going through school, but last month I finally did it. I was in the market for a new car, I'm financially stable, and I decided to buy a Saturn Sky. It was a big deal for me because this was my first what you'd call an, "adult purchase" as I've previously always had my parents holding my hand or helping financially.
    I bought one from a really nice gentleman who took extremely good care of the car. She only had 17k miles on her and I got the car at a very respectable price. She's such a joy to ride and it's great to finally have this car, but now it's time to add some more fun and thanks to you Mike, this will all be so much easier.
    I have watched so many videos of yours about customizing your car, whether it's your newly added touch screen, interior, exterior, everything. Many of your mods I'm getting very similar products or designs because they're things I wanted and you introduced me into the possibilities. I'm not familiar with installing mods on my own, but I have good friends that can help me through it professionally, and I just need to thank you. Your videos are a joy to watch and has helped me figure things out about the car I've wanted since I was a little kid.
    Thanks again and keep up the videos, I always look forward to them. And if anyone is interested I'll put some pictures of my car down below.

      Wow. Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm so glad you were able to purchase your Sky. It looks great and I like that color. Thanks for watching my videos and I'm glad they are inspiring to you for modifying your car. I'm sure you'll have a fun time driving and showing it off. I should be coming out with more videos soon. We had a family emergency the last few months which has slowed me down. But I'm back on track now :)

    I heard you mention your fluid had 100,000 miles on it.. Since you autocross what is your maintenance schedule and have you changed the timing chain? Signed possible future sky owner.

    • @MikesHouseOfMods
      @MikesHouseOfMods  5 лет назад

      Hi David. Even with autocross, I still do the usual maintenance schedule of 3000-4000 mile oil changes. I've already replaced my steering fluid, antifreeze, and transmission fluid within the past year so that should be good for a while. I plan on swapping out my diff next year so that will be all fresh then. And as far as autocross, it's usually just 2 maybe 3 times per month so those events don't put a huge amount of stress on the engine and parts. So there's really no need to adjust a maintenance schedule too much. Just keep an eye on things. And no, I haven't changed my timing chain or water pump.

  • @22_floW
    @22_floW 5 лет назад +1

    Your power steering pump was overheating? What made you aware of that? Did you get a code or something??? (I've never heard of that happening or how it could be diagnosed.)

    • @MikesHouseOfMods
      @MikesHouseOfMods  5 лет назад +1

      After doing a bunch of runs in autocross, I would make a turn to park my car in the grid. When making that then, I could hear the power steering pump whine. I then checked the fluid and it was was foaming and bubbling. It was way too hot. However, when it cooled down it was fine. For normal driving the OEM fluid is fine. For aggressive driving, the engine gets very hot and since the power steering reservoir is so close to the exhaust manifold, it gets real hot too. Redline power steering fluid does great in high temperatures.

    Crude, but effective! Every little bit helps. I'm going to try it this weekend!

    • @MikesHouseOfMods
      @MikesHouseOfMods  5 лет назад

      I agree but I had to do something because of autocross this weekend. When I get back, I may do the same procedure 3 or 4 more times while driving in between (as long as I have enough new fluid left) which will pretty much replace everything. Or I can do it by unhooking the low pressure line near the pump which is more work and messier. Not sure which way I'll go just yet.

    • @paul42171
      @paul42171 5 лет назад

      Hey, anything to get that old fluid out. A few cycles of your original procedure should be quite effective.

    • @MikesHouseOfMods
      @MikesHouseOfMods  5 лет назад

      @@paul42171 Yeah. That's probably the way to go. It takes longer to jack up the car than it does to siphon out the fluid....lol.

    Hey Mike I seen a video the other day were they moved the power steering pump over by the battery to keep it cooler .

    • @MikesHouseOfMods
      @MikesHouseOfMods  5 лет назад

      I've seen that done too. For now I am taking the path of least amount of work. And most of the people that have moved their power steering reservoir originally had it next to the turbo, so that position is very hot.

    Do you have a video on how to check the transmission fluid on an automatic base line 2007 sky,I can't even find the dip stick

    • @MikesHouseOfMods
      @MikesHouseOfMods  5 лет назад

      Unfortunately no since I have a manual. A lot of auto transmissions don't have dip sticks anymore. They pretty much just want you to change the fluid at the recommended mileage (check owners manual). My Kia Sorento is that way. I had a jiffy lube place change the tranny fluid and they had to figure out how to add it back in once it was drained. Turned out that they had to remove the front wheel to get to the fill hole. That's some wonderful engineering right there.

      @@ronlebert4245 I understand. When I bought my Sky, I never even thought about doing autocross. But I wanted to learn how to drive the car and find it's limits....so I signed up for a performance driving school last year (which I also did again yesterday). Once I did the school, I was hooked on autocross. As for it being hard on the car, I guess it could be, but believe it or not, GM made the car specifically to beat the Miata in autocross. So it's pretty much made for it. And I actually baby this car through maintenance and upgrades more than I do with my daily driver. But I know most owners enjoy doing the group runs....I do too...and that's awesome as well.
