- It's a short world, live life to it's fullest.
I storyboarded this last week, and I decided to challenge myself to finish at least 90% of the cartoon within one day. The program I animated this, Flash, really didn't enjoy this cartoon, as it liked to crash quite a bit, but luckily I managed to finish all of the animation sometime around 1 am. It's fun to do cartoons in a short period of time. Short people got no reason!

for all the people who said that they feel 'offended' because of this hysterical video, yet a fellow 4-footer help you:
-we can have as much leg room as we please
-our feet are always covered by blankets
-great hide n seek spots
-we can buy kids tickets and stuff to save money
-we usually get moved to the front row in pictures so we are seen better
-clothes fit us for a while since we never grow
-piggy back rides almost always work
-we are master counter climbers
-we can fit in any room of any size without hitting our heads
-we don't have to bend over to grab things as much as others, so yay no back pain :)
-we are adorable and if anyone disagrees with me i will have to fite you

I hate seeing all these "I'm so offended" comments. Hasn't anyone ever heard a song with an underlying meaning before? He's not literally hating short people and making fun of them. He's causing awareness of the fact that people create negative opinions of others for stupid reasons. We all know it's stupid to hate someone because they're short and so does he. just like it's stupid to hate someone for their skin color, accent, origin, hair style, shape of their nose, size of their feet, level of intelligence, etc etc. Makes sense to me
That's the problem with satire. Many people do not understand it. Even today, college students often think Swift was seriously supporting legal cannibalism in his "A Modest Proposal".

Underappreciated Genius underlying the meaning doesn't always make it better. Think about if he replaced the word short with black. How many people do you think he would offend? Yes it is satire but a reminder of prejudice doesn't always make things better.

I am related to a family whose last name is short. One time, at a family reunion, when lots of them were in a pub, the singer(or maybe dj?) played this song, and the Shorts immediately began to throw things at him.

This song was very controversial back in the day, but Randy Newman (who wrote and performed it) said that it was poking fun at people who say those things about short people, as evidenced by the lyrics at (at 1:09) "Short people are just the same as you and I... All men are brothers until the day they die." Unfortunately that part was drowned out by the rest of the lyrics.

I am 5 foot Zero and never liked having to literally look up to people and literally have people look down on me but Im 64 years old now and I noticed in the mirror that when I hold it low and look down on it my face is extra wrinkley but when I hold the mirror up higher than myself And I Look Up... Nat Burns I'm glad you brought that up. Although it is complete satire, do you think the song might sound worse if he replaced short with black? Now if you think that might make black people mad then you're probably right. But the thing about that is they've been through some not so great stereotyping. So of course even sarcastically saying things like that might not help. Same thing goes if you go your whole life listening to people talk about your height. I've been dismissed from jobs because of my height before. So do you think I even want to hear a joke about it? I'm not gonna get angry at anyone for this but I'd hope that maybe this might help someone understand.

The PC folks seem to be the forever "woke" millinials that have embraced the "cancel culture" with open arms. And just recently main stream media seems to be getting this- that the majority of black ppl care about real issues that affect their everyday lives. they don't care about who calls who the "n word" . So for those who comment about replaceing "short" with "black" those ppl don't know that for 200 yrs the US Gov. kidnappped and killed black ppl under US Law to ecomincally empower whites, forced black to build the US for free, broke up black families and sold their children - for 200 yrs. And white ppl still say blacks should be "grateful". Short ppl can be offended when the US Constitution says they're only 3/5 human and feel entitled to rape their little girls.

I used to hate this song when it came out. I was teased constantly in school for being short and skinny...every day. It really got old real quick. Then this came out just 3 or 4 yrs later, so I started to feel those same feelings...like it wasn't worth living. However, I was dating a musician by then, and he said it wasn't about hating short people, but pointing out how ridiculous it is to hate anyone for such lame reasons as their physical appearance.
This was a big hit when I was in high school. And I don't remember anybody even thinking that there was the slightest possibility that anyone could or would be offended by it. Everyone just bought the single, played it, or listened to it on the radio and enjoyed it.
It's sad to see that our society has degenerated since then to the point that people can actually be offended by a song like this. That's too bad.
