Great PSA, Marty. This same thing happened to me on my Master and it happened right after a tire and bearing re-pack. The faulty valve gummed up with slime can also cause the pressure gauge to read incorrectly. I thought the issue might be a bad bearing or a leaking tube, but replacing the valve fixed all the issues. Yes, Slime is a must, but it can interfere with the valve.

Awesome wheel tip Marty, I also use a squirt of WD40 to keep valve stems clean as well. Never had one rust like that, but I have had them stick shut.
I just ran into this issue with a brand new tube. Luckily I had some spare valve cores on hand.

Amazing how something so small can cause such a huge headache.
This happened to me around a month ago after having just reassembled and glued case back together. Was so happy it was just a valve stem "gunked up" and didn't need to undo all my work to replace a tube.
I've had two bad valves to date, the first diagnosis was after I went through the hassle of removing the tyre / inner tube! 🙄😅. Thanks for the tip and ride safe!

I have the habit of putting spit with my finger on the valves opening. If it makes a bubble, the valve is defective.

Good to know thanks. If you ride without a valve cap these can oxidize too, even without slime.
Whenever you put air in the tire be sure to lie it flat or be sure the valve is the highest point so that the sealant runs down to the other side.
Good tip. I try to remember to do this but it's not always totally effective.
I run armor dilloz. Some vet in Florida makes it. Ngl it's a little pricey but I don't mind for the peace of mind
Yes, I know people who use Armor Dilloz, Stan's, and others. Whatever does the job for you is good!

Marty, it sounds like you introduce the Slime early on, before a flat, as a prevention measure. Doesn't the Slime dry out? I wasn't sure how it would seal a puncture that occurs several months later. Your content is wonderful.
From my experience Slime does not dry out. I remember when I converted my Mten3 to tubeless and removed the tube after it had Slime for a few years and the Slime was still fully liquid.

I use Orange Seal and it lasts 4 months +. I add an extra 1 x 2 oz. Every 3 months. I also bring a small 3 ounce bottle in my repair kit in my pack along with a spare valve stem and a few other little tricks just in case.
i was about to ask if you still use slime. you usually do that during unboxing and set up . some slime comes out every time you check your tire pressure and even damaged one of my tire pressure gauge.
Are you recommending slime ? Aren't most euc tires tubeless ? Since our lives are riding on one tire literally, i think i will now go with nitrogen, much more stable and less impurities. Costco used to only put nitrogen then stopped. But for a critical application its ideal.......
The vast majority of EUC's are NOT tubeless. I use Slime in all of my wheels because I don't want to get a flat when I'm twenty miles from the nearest road. Nitrogen isn't going to help you when a thorn, nail, staple, etc. punctures your tire.

First, why should you put any goo inside? I have my goo can with me every time I go long rides, but never needed it in 4 years, last year I replaced it in the backpack, just to make sure it is not dried in the bottle (don't want any surprise when I am in the middle of the mountains). For short rides and errands no slime is needed, adding that to the tire may avoid air leaks, but won't help with the speed, vibrations, etc. Second, you forgot to tell anything about the "tool" you need to use to take that core out, the video is incomplete without it. Your car may have those fork-caps for the valves, which you can turn upside down an use to unscrew the core, but your unicycle won't. You may say that people know about it, but the people who know about it also know to change a core, so that's not the intended audience of the video. I have one of those "forks" which looks like a miniscule screwdriver, and I love it, it is so cute, I ordered it from AliExpress years ago, I was looking for something else and when I saw it i fell in love with it. I ordered it, and guess what, I used it a single time in 2 or 3 years, when I changed the tire of my old RS (still have that wheel, I made custom battery packs and smart BMS for it 😄, this related to your last video about suspension vs no suspension, and I prefer it to the newer wheels in some particular situations)
Sorry that you didn't find the video useful. Hopefully some people did. BTW, In this video near the beginning I linked to my video which explains how and why to use Slime, although you don't like Slime. That's fine. To each their own 🙂
@@ElectricUnicycles Well, indeed, to each their own, but for sure I prefer my wheel balanced and not gurgling (if the slime is too liquid it will gurgle inside, and if it is too viscous it will collect on the lower side of the wheel when not used, and affect its balance for a while when you start (this is known for motorcycle racers, they running few laps before the race is not only to heat the engines). Also, the slime in your wheel goes into your pump and pressure gauge every time you inflate the wheel or check the pressure, real pain in the butt. Slime is for emergency situations, and not for daily wear. Like condoms... :P
@@laurv8370 Yet MANY people use Slime in EUCs (my channel is about EUCs not motorcycles, etc), such as myself, with none of the negative consequences that you discuss. So it comes down to opinion. You have yours and I have mine 🙂
Sure, and we are both too old and too stubborn to educate each-other :P. Marty, don't take this the wrong way, I like yor channel and your videos, and the best proof is that I am here commenting instead of ignoring it. We are both the same type of riders (age, love for the mountain paved roads, etc). Ok, you are a better rider hehe, ok? But you always take the criticism with a bit of bitterness. Here the right reply should have been "sorry, I should have mentioned how to take out that core, and show a tool to do it", and not "well, you don't like my video, go elsewhere" 😝
@@laurv8370 Sorry, absolutely no bitterness on my part (I always add smiley faces). My only point is that you are not "right" and I am not "right". We have opinions. I'll let other people decide which opinion resonates with them. I'll try and preface more of my videos with "the following is my opinion and not to be considered gospel" 🙂
Also, in my video I referenced a previous video with all the gory details on how to install Slime, remove the core, etc. I'm trying to reduce the length of some of my videos so I don't repeat myself with content that can be found in other videos.
