In this video we are in the Bow Valley, and we will be hiking up a portion of the Jura Creek Trail, through the slot canyon and up to a cave. This was the first time I have been here with water flowing in the canyon. The trail is 3.9 kilometers (2.4 miles) with an elevation gain of 154 meters (505 feet). The Trailhead is on the North side of the 1A highway was you head West just before Exshaw. There is a pretty good sized parking lot here.
From the trailhead you start heading North towards the mountains and the canyon. There are numerous trails here, but if you are heading North, you will be OK. This first portion is relatively flat. Just shy of .7k you will arrive at the drainage and follow it up, and soon you will arrive at the canyon. At 1k you will arrive at the entrance to the slot canyon. This is the first time I have been here when there has been water flowing in the canyon. Once in the canyon we were walking on packed wet snow and through the water in a couple areas. The canyon walls had beautiful colors in the rock. The canyon is very narrow for the fist part and then it opens up for a small portion. There were a couple tricky spots here maneuvering over the rocks and around the creek. Soon the canyon will get a lot narrower. In areas you can touch both sides of the canyon at the same time. It was like it was raining in there as water was coming down both sides of the canyon. At 1.5k the canyon will open up again. If you look back and up to your left, you can see the cave high above the canyon. In a previous video I scrambled up to the cave from here, not the smartest idea. Here is the link to this video.

We now headed back down the canyon. Once back at the entrance to the canyon we started heading up to our left. There are no markings to show you where to go here, and no one has been up this way since the big dump of snow we recently had. Once you get up a little bit you will see some flagging on your left. Soon you will see the slot canyon down below you. There isn’t a lot of flagging here, so you must keep your eyes peeled. Basically, if you keep the canyon just on your left as you are heading up you should be OK. Just before you get to the cave you will now go up a steep incline. Be careful here as the trail will get very narrow and you will be on a cliff above the canyon. We had to dig out our feet deep here to avoid slipping. We approached the cave very slowly to ensure that there were no large critters in there. Once in the cave you will have a stunning view looking up at the canyon. It was like it was raining outside the cave as water was coming down from the cliff above the cave. On the left side of the cave there was a section with some beautiful ice formations in it. We enjoyed our lunch and a beer with an awesome view. It was a little bit easier heading down as we were now able to step in our footprints. Once we got down to the canyon entrance we had a very easy walk back to the car. This was a great day hiking in the Bow Valley. We hiked Heart Creek in the morning, and Jura Creek in the afternoon.
