@Raging YT what do you know about the relevancy of glideslopes on an aircraft carrier? just because i asked a question doesn't mean i didn't get the joke
I really enjoy watching extreme skill in just about any medium. Because you're really watching the result of countless hours of honing your craft. And the most skilled make it look easy. Thanks for uploading!👍
Bob, naval rotc at BU in Boston. Pdu, sorry for the long response but during the day it's zip lip with no radio calls and we've done the landing checklist by the time this starts, so the ics adapter is used for music!
This was an awesome video. That last turn to final looked like you were maybe 2000-3000 feet astern to hit a 16 second groove time - is that about right? That just seems so tight.
Man, being non-Navy it was some times hard for me to pick out the right yellow shirt. Don’t know what the brown shirt was doing, folding the wings signals?
There is only one pattern entry during a Case I recovery (VFR). The over head break. This guy started filming on the downwind just prior to the 180 position. Not a bad trap, just a little drift left on rollout. Great day for cats n traps. Old Hummer pilot. Thanks for the vid and letting me relive my youth.
The Runway is also moving while bobbing up and down in the water, they also expect you to land in zero visibility conditions during CASE III approaches.
By the way, they have wire traps that catch a hook on the plane to bring it to a stop extremely quickly at high speeds. They also have landing systems like the integrated landing systems and the lights on the side that tell you if you’re too high or too low.
Timmy....awesome video! Just watching the last few seconds of that approach, the distance covered from rolling out on centerline and crossing the ramp went pretty quick. Can that make for a rushed ball call with the LSO?
Wow, I didn't realize you didn't do a ball call during the day. Would you still call the nose number and state so that the arresting gear is set for the weight of the aircraft?
Hey Timmy, I decided I want to be a naval aviator. I was eyeing up the E2 and since my eyesight isn't exactly up to par for pilot status, how does one become a airman in the back on the cabin (schooling, experience, etc.)
SuperBuds1217 , Naval Flight Officer is the job of which you speak. I'm not sure how old you are, but first you must go to college for a bachelors degree and commission as a naval officer through Navy ROTC, the US Naval Academy, or Officer Candidate School. If after taking the ASTB and have good enough grades out of college to select an aviation billet, you can select Hawkeyes out of primary flight training in Pensacola. After winging, you will owe six years of service as an NFO. In the Hawkeye community, you can end up based in Norfolk, VA, Point Mugu, CA, or Iwakuni, Japan. As a Hawkeye FO, you will be involved in the control of fighter aircraft in air to air or air to ground environments and provide over the horizon early warning to the carrier strike group. You can also hunt for ships and surface to air missiles that don't want to be found. Also, don't count out pilot just yet, since LASIK and photorefractive kerotectomy (PRK) to improve your vision are both authorized by the director of aeromedical qualifications. If you have further queries please contact me at talons@gmail.com
Timmy, I'm currently 18 and just starting my first year at college. I became interested in NROTC after the application deadline but I will be doing next year. My goal is to fly for the Navy after college and I'm already working on getting my pilot's license. Do you have any tips for me? My preference (like everybody) would be to fly the F18 but I know the competition is stiff and very hard to get into. With that said, I wouldn't mind flying the Hawkeye as well as it seems like an incredible aircraft.
Good luck man! I joined late too. Just to give a shout out, hawkeyes are sick. They're extremely maneuverable and can do knife edge turns. Plus they're stationed near malibu while the poor fighter bros live in fresno. Also! if you break a wire, it's got the balls to take off again from 70 knots. ruclips.net/video/r-EHwYOfY94/видео.html
I just started getting into the Hawkeye a couple days ago. I was spotting at Mesa Gateway Airport (retired Air Force Base) and saw the Hawkeye takeoff and I didn't know what it was so I did some searching and it's badass. From what I've read it's basically a mobile radar/ ATC post in the sky which is especially cool to me since ATC interests me as well (albeit not as much as actual flying!) I certainly wouldn't mind flying it, especially the new E2Ds!
Because it means that they can use the parts of where a regular runway would be, at the front and back of the carrier, to store planes, and this is also where the catapults for launching aircraft are located
That is a great video! Almost as impressive was the marshalling done on the deck. What was the brown controller having you do? (and/or the importance of switching off to him?)
he's the plane captain. they are in charge of leading the engine starts and shut downs and also connect me to the maintenance crews if needed, using hand signals. just to clarify this is a BAD landing :)
Because of changing the propeller pitch and mostly on putting the propeller in reverse trust (which means that actually the trust is going to act as a break and of course to drive backward if necessary)
I belive prop aircraft dont have reverse thrust. When they touch down on the Carrier they increase thrust to 100% in case of a missed aproach. Allowing a touch and go
I stand corrected. Sorry. Planes with a variable pitch propeller can have a pitch range which twists the blades such that they provide reverse thrust. But i still belive the plane will max thrust on touch down to avoid the drink?
@@Mikebravo91 Pilot immediately goes to reverse thrust as soon as the trap finishes rolling out. Then that hook gets disengaged by the hook runner, fold the wings, whip out the nose wheel steering handle, positive thrust and get the hell out of the landing area. Somebody could be right behind ya. The best flying in the world is right here. Skills that stay with you forever. 28 years since my last trap in a Hummer. Still use my Navy taught skills on every approach and landing to this day at 60 years old.
