  • Welcome to my fleet histories series. In it I review year-by-year aircraft fleets of an airline.
In this video I review Olympic Airways' Boeing 747 fleet from when the plane was inaugurated in 1973 until it was retired in 2000.
This series is inspired by Elmariplatense. You can check out his channel here: / elmauriplatense
    Music: "Roses" - Jordan Elgie
All images are sourced from Google Images and Planespotters.net.
What aircraft should I review next from which airline? Put your suggestions in the comments below!

What fantastic memories I have of my father taking our family to Greece (his homeland) back in the 60's and 70's, first on Olympic 707's, then Olympic 747's, flying nonstop from JFK, NYC to Athens! We had some awesome times on Olympic, and in Greece. R.I.P. my dear father... you were an awesome dad!

Bless you and your late father, I had a similar memory but but dad had left Greece for the UK and we would fly back in the 80s and 90s on Olympic Airways one summer I was sent to Greece for the 6 weeks summer holiday from school and went alone with a Olympic airways crew member checking me I must have only been 13 years old flying London to Athens, when the other passengers found out I was flying alone they made a fuss of me and commented on how good my Greek was, my father passed away in May this year RIP to our wonderful Greek dads.

@@spiros78 Thanks Spiros. Appreciate your sharing that nice post, and for the kind words about our fathers. I just spent countless hours and weeks scanning (digitizing) all his 35mm slides and photos he left us! Best gift ever. I will cherish those memories as long as I am taking breaths! All the best to you!

I have so many hours travelling on the Olympic Eagle, so many memories what a Bird - what an airline - quite possibly the most special 747-2 ever! touchdown at hellenicon from JFK was the most amazing experience - everyone clapping her down in joy especially in a soft landing! im lucky i have family in er neighborhood and get to see her - I tell my kids about her while I drive by but always with a tear in my eyes! Great vid!

Biggest problem when the Greeks moved airports in Athens they forgot to remove the traffic signs pointing to the CLOSED airport. Tickets issued with just the Athens name so directed to the wrong airport. As the saying goes "IT WAS ALL GREEK TO ME" Fortunately allowed sufficient time to drive through the centre of Athens during evening rush (SLOW) hour. Not impressed with the combined use of military airports at weekends as an emergency recall to UK from Kalamata was a 4 hour car drive to get a flight home.
