The producer has a blog post on gear sluts that goes into that production stuff. The crazy laser sound in the verse downbeat is actually the bass hitting a boss metal zone with all the gain up.
So glad I found your channel! Back in the 90's my AIM screen name was ThirdEB521. Good to find someone who is as passionate as I am about this album to teach me how to play all the songs!
I subbed once you said tom delonge and kevin cadogen were your favorite guitarists together they have created all of my fav riffs. Cadogen is criminally underrated as well such a shame. Also which pedals you using? Im trying to get 2-3 pedals for blink 182, third eye blind and other 90s shit. I was thinkin distortion and flanger but ik cadogen used a wah pedal as well what do you think
Dude no way! I that’s awesome. They really have created the best guitar riffs. And yeah, lots of Wah for Cadogan. No pedals for blink really- just a fender Strat with Invader pickup through a Mesa 🤘
@@EricBourassa yea thats what I’ve heard for blink i really want a mess eventually. I actually meant angels and airwaves thats my mistake lol but thanks for reply man
Dude. Thought I was the only one who appreciated Tom Delonge and Kevin Cadogan as the greatest guitarists of all time. My soul is seriously beaming at this
At 0:59 in the song? The noise is moving down in pitch. So it can’t be him sliding UP the fretboard. Also it sounds more like a pick scrape than a slide
@@EricBourassa great lesson Eric. So much amazing guitar work from Cadogan on this album and Blue that largely goes unnoticed on YT so hope you can fill that void. Two of my favorite albums of all time. I've always been bummed that Kevin never caught on with another real band.
@@EJH-jn6mo two of my favorite albums ever as well. Yeah, Kevin definitely deserves more recognition. Look for more Third Eye Blind lessons from these first two albums soon!
Are we totally sure this is the correct tuning? My guy here is obviously a solid player but there’s something that doesn’t sound quite right… I’m not 100% convinced
I am 100% convinced it’s correct. Not sure what sounds off. The only thing missing is a compressor to evenly squeeze each note. Only other thing could be you’re used to hearing overdubbed guitars plus the bass filling in extra space
@@EricBourassa I guess probably just the emphasis on those hammer ons is hard to reproduce exactly like the album. When you played the open D major chord it sounded exactly like the beginning of Narcolepsy which was pretty compelling. I’ve played with DADGAD before but never specifically D tuning before it’s cool
@@JonnyDWise yeah, guaranteed Graduate riff had a ton of compression on it to get the most out of those hammer-on's. Try it with a good compressor and I bet that'll do the trick. And Narcolepsy is a similar tuning- F#ADF#AE... well ok not totally similar but it still produces a D chord harmony overall. A Kevin Cadogan trademark
@@EricBourassa wow that’s interesting because at first glance it sounded identical. But mad respect to anyone who can write and play in tunings like that. My muscle memory always takes over and I try to play a note that isn’t there anymore.
It is one of the best albums of all time
100%. working my way through teaching the entire album, just uploaded "How's It Going To Be" today
easily top 100 best
...of the 90's
for sure
I'm a HUGE 3EB fan and have been to over 50 of their shows. I love your work, its spot on bro! You're awesome!!
50 3eb shows?! I don’t know if I’ve even been to 50 shows total 😅
@EricBourassa been a fan since the beginning. Met them several times too. They're still touring!

NO WAY!!!! mystery solved! I MUST check out that blog
Great job. Couldn’t agree more. Unreal album!
Agreed, this is also my favorite album of all time! Straight fire and so many incredible songs
🤘YES🤘
@@EricBourassa love your tutorials btw. It’s great to see someone pay tribute to such an underrated band
@@realsamraudabaugh1332 aw thank you so much!

@@EricBourassa if you could, I’d love to see a tutorial on how’s it going to be. Trying to learn that song for a talent show 🤞
unbelievable album. from music to lyrics to production.
absolutely. the older I get the more I appreciate the production of the album. lyrics and music are top notch. it's like the perfect storm
i love that you cover these songs, probably my favorite 90s alternative album of all time too
heck yes! there's really something special about this album, isn't there?
tis a killer album, I think it'll def live on long after the band
I definitely think that album is great but I feel it’s under rated because people only listend to semi charmed life and didn’t hear the whole album.
💯% agree
@connoremily9362 from start to finish. A perfect Album.

Moet underrated RUclips guitar teacher ever
You just made my whole day! 🤗
Totally agree on self titled, and half of Blue. The ones Kevin was part of. He brought the magic.
Fret hand workout of my year so far! ☠️
haha no doubt!
I wouldn’t maybe say the greatest but it is definitely underrated without argument
I get it! I’m totally biased and I’ll admit it
Not SoCal - SF! Satriani was my neighbor in Presidio Heights and Cadogan was born in Oakland and lived in Berkeley and SF.
oh nice! that's really cool. Thanks for the correction :)

On my top 5 favorite albums along with the second album blue
YES SAME. def in my top 2. Blue doesn't quite make my top 10 but for sure top 25 (and I've listened to a LOT of albums)
100% agree!!!
Not a bad song on the album, I can listen from beginning to the end
could not agree more!
sixteen stone😩
is that a request or a claim that sixteen stone is greatest rock album of all time???
Mine is Siamese dream😛
good choice
Top 3 album for me. Up there with enema of the state by blink
what??? no way! Third Eye Blind and Enema of the State are my top two favorite albums EVER. That rocks, man!
@@EricBourassa haha that’s awesome man!

He was like a combo of Joni Mitchell and Satch on this album
😆 that’s hilarious. I never thought of that combo before, love it
You can play this in standard drop D just fine.
I could see that. Makes sense!
It's not a pick scratch. It's string noise from him sliding his left hand back up to the 12th fret.
At 0:59 in the song? The noise is moving down in pitch. So it can’t be him sliding UP the fretboard. Also it sounds more like a pick scrape than a slide
jeez i need to work on my dexterity i’ll be back
😆 yeah dude it’s not easy that’s for sure! I still have to loosen up and stretch before I play this one
had no idea that Satch taught Cadogan -- interesting.
Cool, right???
