- The US Air Force Thunderbirds perform on Saturday at the 2021 Cleveland National Airshow at Burke Lakefront Airport in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Partway through the performance, Thunderbird 5 had a mechanical issue and had to return to Cleveland's Hopkins Airport, where the team was staging.

At least that's what the news said.
My favorite was the single speed flyover.Just feeling the power in your body and the heat when it flew over was 👌
that maneuver after the high speed pass with the other solo is probably the most impressing thing i’ve seen

Great performance they are so good. Interesting 2 had centerline drop tanks and where 2 seaters. Thank for posting used to go to the Cleveland air show every year with my Dad.
The single seaters have more internal fuel capacity the 2 seaters use the drop tanks to equal the time they perform.
One of the solo's ended up with a mechanical issues so they called the backups in

They were more daring in the 70’s and 80’s. Miss the T-38’s

That was probably the Hight of all Airshows SINCE; as Both Teams were relatively the Same Powerful Jets !
Thunderbirds and Blue Angels are my favorite squadrons. I really love them.
Are there any other squadrons? I don't know of any.

They do seem less loud or deep sounding as the Blues f-18s but Man when they Light the Burners they're Very Throaty

I realize the Marines are part of the Navy, but wonder why they never had an air show team? I know they don't have as near as many planes as the Navy and Air Force but I am sure they have some really great pilots.

Absolute Perfection! They are like 6 brain surgeons operating the scalpel, at the same time, on the same area. I saw them at RIAT, Fairford, UK, in July 2017, where the weather was, yep you guessed it, dreadful! The F22 was to fly just before the Thunderbirds. Well, the F22, alone, gave up flying on that Saturday, at my huge disappointment. But the Thunderbirds, as true birds, did their display with class. I don't like cancelling. Don't get me wrong, I am not crazy: you don't continue *regardless* , you continue *despite* all the adversity you face. You don't cancel, you just tweak a little, adapt, and keep enjoying life. This couldn't be more true in 2020 and beyond...
Maybe the Raptor had a mechanical issue however,I'm sure there was an issue with the airplane ,or maybe the pilot was ill .Until you really you know the reason ,don't be quick to judge.......
@@bruceshenkel6991 No because the F22 came on the runway for at least 10 minutes. The speaker explained they were waiting for the sky to clear, and in the end they said the cloud cover was just too bad. The Thunderbirds took off just after the F22 cleared the runway! UTTERLY LUDICROUS !

Kinda funny the t birds flew but not the Raptor ,,,,,Strange huh ? The raptor has more of a better capability Than the Falcon I'm sure .Oh well orders are orders....

curious as to why the 2 seaters fly with center fuel tanks , I suspect to balance c of g and maintain roll axis for formation unity with single seaters. can someone comment?
The second seat takes up the space of an internal fuel tank. The external tank is to compensate for the lost fuel capacity

Does anyone know why the Thunderbirds come in from Hopkins instead of using the Burke runway?
The Burke runway is too short per the USAF safety regulations. The Blues can do it because they use a little bit less runway.

Which day was that? Two of the last three years the Thunderbirds were in CLE seemed like issues... folks sick or old F-16s going down for MX reasons.
That looks like Sunday 2021... the one day I went to go get some stuff for some bros with some planes there...
Any idea why #4 is always a two-seater carrying a drop tank now? It certainly detracts from the beauty of the aircraft. I first noticed it when they visited El Centro last winter.
The Blue Angles are better. Great show though.

Their good I think blue angles should gave much crazier pilots being they need to be crazier taking off landing on ships but they all got to be best of best to get into thease teams their the S.F of pilots
People don't know one of the solo planes developed mechanical issues during the flight and seemlessly brought in the back up

@@Airplaneclipz After they took off from Hopkins, one of the solo planes developed mechanical warnings, so they launched the stand-by still at Hopkins as the problem plane was returning, then the back up slid right into the solo spot upon arrival.

The safety officer makes that call . Many f 16 have landed at that air port .
So they started the show with the No 7 airplane flying one of the solo spots. then it filled in the slot position in the diamond ? An unusual show,
I was there. The one had some technical issues right after the show was started. They had to go with a backup show plan because they were down a plane
Both the lead solo (number 5) and the slot pilot were flying two seaters. Number 5 had a problem mid-show and had to return to their staging airport, leaving five jets to finish the show.
It was a terrible show the whole weekend. Only five jets for two of three shows. The clev airshow this year was a joke!

i really hope they dont change over to the f35's , the f16 just cant be beat for American single engine performance
The F-35 is the newest plane out there. Theres no way they will give a demo team new aircraft. We will be gone before they get to fly them as a demo aircraft.

I mean the f-16s were fairly new when they were transitioned, same with the BlueAngels F/A-18s
F-35 would be ideal for Promotional but maybe still too costly,

@@mrandrossguy9871 The F-15 came out in 1976. Even older. Your right... the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels got their new aircraft only 3 years after the first operational ones were introduced. The AF got the F35 in 2016. Plenty old enough now. But do they have enough out there that are ready to be retired to the Thunderbirds . Seeing they get the end of the life span planes.

this show by the Thunderbirds had to be the most boring airshow display of the day. is this all they do fly around in tight formations for 15mins?? compared to the Blue Angels these guys look like 1st year pilots!
