@@kemosabeusmc Oak is just saying that bcuz he’s still mad that Ewing didn’t step up 4 him vs James Dolan @ MSG, which he should have, but u can’t lie on the man’s career. We’ve got the tapes.
Let's look at every series they lost from '88-'96 (when Oakley joined the team to when Ewing was 33/34 & done being a top player pretty much) & how Ewing did defensively.... In '88/'89 vs the Bulls Ewing avgd just 1.8 blocks. His defensive rating was WORST on the entire team. In '89/'90 vs the Pistons he avgd 2.2 blocks. His defensive rating was 2nd worst on the entire team. In the '91 series vs the Bulls Ewing avgd just 1.7 blocks. His defensive rating was the WORST on the entire team. In the '92 playoffs against the Bulls he avgd just 2.3 blocks. His defensive rating was the 2nd worst on the entire team. In the '93 playoffs against the Bulls he avgd only 1.7 blocks and Oakley, playing 32 mins to Ewings 41 mins, avgd just 0.4 less rebounds than Ewing. His defensive rating was the WORST on the entire team. In the '94 Finals he did avg 4 blocks...but then his scoring dropped to 18.9 pts on a HORRIBLE , esp for 7 footer, 36% shooting (while Hakeem put up 26.9 pts on 50% & 3.9 blocks). His defensive rating was the WORST on the entire team. In the '95 playoffs vs the Pacers he avgd 1.9 blocks. His defensive rating was tied for 3rd worst on the entire team. In the '96 playoffs vs the Bulls he avgd 2.8 blocks. His defensive rating was 3rd worst on the entire team. By then he was 33/34. And also most of the players that finished worse than him when he finished 2nd or 3rd worst in defensive rating were bench guys who hardly played lol. Oak has a very valid point. Ewing wasn't the defender he should have been at his size & with the athletisim he showed when he coming into the league.....when u look at things he was 1 of the worst defenders on the court for them in every series thaey lpst for those 8 straight seasons).
