Am I wrong?...or is this only Rutherford's second interview since he famously said he should stop talking so candidly and stepped back to have Allvin front?
Their play in the 4 Nations will determine their trade value. All potential suitors want to see if it's just a Vancouver thing and not their overall game.
"Trades like that dont exist in the NHL anymore" meanwhile we see Rantanen traded for another top line winger. Of course Necas is nowehere near the level of Rantanen, but I think Necas and Pettersson are somewhat comparable atm. Deals like this exist, you just gotta be willing to take a chance. Colorado and Carolina understand their windows are now and made a deal that solved their immediate issue (carolina = lack of scoring, colorado = money / recouping assets for a pending UFA) while not being detrimental to the team's success. Vancouver HAS to find a way to make a deal like that.
There's one constant and that is a management team that signed 11.6 while that has imploded and a management team that did not address the team's weaknesses going into the season. I smell ass covering -big time.
People forget- management offered and signed Petey to the monster contract DURING his slump. Seemed like it was their attempt to get him out of it 🤦♂️
Petey and Miller is like a boring sexless marriage where the 2 people just avoid each other and put up a front like everything is great. The only problem is now everyone knows it's sexless and kids are involved...
actually if a trade has to happen soon (one way or another) & canucks are desperate to make that trade - rutherford signaling to all 31 other GM's with a public article in canada's national newspaper says "give me your best offer, all options on the table" - so instead of only a few teams seriously asking him about trading for miller or pete, now all calls will be coming in & he can pick the best one to get it done...from his GM perspective going public might be strategic
How the feud manifests is not irrelevant.. if its one player constantly getting in the face of the other you don't want that guy left on the team.. and why would you trade the other one?
Rutherford is putting the onus on the players to get this resolved. Management has already tried to deflect and keep it in house to keep the pressure off of them. It hasn't worked. I think the timing of this is so the team has some time before the March deadline to see if the players can figure it out. If not, they will see what offers will be available at the deadline, and take it from there. Miller has the emotional control of a toddler and Pettersen is way too sensitive, imho.
Well folks welcome to modern life as we know it. Old School (Miller) vs New School ( Petterssen). I can't imagine trying to navigate this as a coach or a GM. It seems as if this battle is everywhere. I don't have an answer just disappointed that the Canucks and the fans are put throught this. Just once before I die could we have a chance at the cup !!!
The Canucks are dealing from a position of complete weakness and that's why the offers are as such. Like Don said closer to the deadline teams might be more likely to something more drastic. It's possible.
two things about this are stupid. one, you don't have to get a RD or a 2nd line C in the deal. two you don't have to try and trade for a similar return. You can achieve both of those things two ways without the straightforward way. #1 trade Brock first and receive some of those assets making the leverage and requirements different on a JT deal. #2 trade for picks and prospects and flip those to another team for what you want like we did with Bo and Fil.
Everyone talks about not knowing what happened. Couldn't it just have been the fact if Petey had even scored 2 goals in the playoffs we probably would've been in the conference final and maybe the cup final ?
It's Petey. It's been petey the whole time. Cryptic, enigmatic, mystery surrounds this whole thing. Hasn't that been Petey from the beginning....?? A coach killer has their own agenda and doesn't play for his teammates or coach... who does that sound like? And there are so many that defend him by playing the virtanen game....look he got 3 shots today and one body check ... look at him dive to save an offside!!! Even his injuries are mysterious!
Have they called the Ducks about Pettersson ? Why not take a look at Terry and one of their young defenseman ? Locombe, zellwager. The Ducks have been in a rebuild for 7 years now I bet they’d be a willing trade partner
Suspicious that JT seems to be in the middle of problems. It's why the Rangers moved him. Likely why TB didn't mind dealong him. The Horvat, now Petey. Just saying. Yes, the team needs his grit. Badly. But if the spice makes the sauce taste like crap and make you puke, maybe you need to rethink the flavouring.
They will only trade for a win with those two. If not, they'll keep things as they are till the off season. Imho, JR is just shaking things up to get those two to make peace and move forward on their own accord. Probably a little bait to make other trades lower down the totem pole look more attractive.
I am sick to my stomach! Jim is retooling now, I expects he trades both the players that set off this nuclear bomb. And Jim was setting the stage for delayed transactions as he must maximize for the future now. This has set the franchise back years...why can't Canucks fans have nice things?
Just added another decade to any hope of a Vancouver Stanley Cup win. I guess some teams are forever cursed to watch the show from the sidelines / golf course.
With the Window we've got, you trade EP40, you'll get more for him. It's been a year since he's played well, his Cap hit is massive, and he's not a Power Forward. You win Cups with Hard Charging Power Forwards. You try to win in the Window you've got, then you rebuild. EP40 isn't a leader, and he's not going to carry the team on his back to a win. Quinn and JT will. I'd say that there's a lot of resentment in the room with the money that EP40 is making, and how he's playing, compared to the rest of the Team.
You can trade ep40, but you still have the headcase of JT. What if the new guy doesn’t live up to JT’s “expectations”, is he going to be all pissy on the new guy too? Get rid of the cancer.
This interview he did with rutherford did more harm to the team then it will ever do good This is gonna set the team back for years. Terrible move by Rutherford
This was an idiotic interview to give. Absolutely trashes any trade value ... and also completely shits on the "good feelings" around the team after finally stringing two wins together. There was literally no need to give this interview.
Rutherford and Allvin screwed the offseason so bad that they have put this out to cover their incompetence. Where was this talk last year when these issues existed? Rutherofrd and Allvin are pissing me off.
@ Yes. Brad Richardson, a guy who likes Miller a lot, still said he was too hard on Pettersson. Apparently when in New York, Miller screamed at Henrik Lundqvist and was moved 2 days later. If he can scream like that to someone like Lundqvist's status, imagine how he treats less seasoned guys. Tampa dumped him and went to 3 straight Cup finals. There's something very seriously wrong with the guy. All signs are there.
@@okyouknowwhatever I agree. Every JT guy usually has a 'straw that stirs the drink' or 'drags into the fight ' defense for him because he can put up points, but he is a legit player with 'a history' now. I bet if we went with Bo, even though he produces less points, we would still be toe to toe with Edmonton if not better. Now it seems like the wheels are falling off. In hindsight, there is a reason why we won that JT Miller trade...
The thing is this goes back years to when Benning was still in charge. This rift isn't something that started a few months back. It's possible that JT outside of the rink is very vocal about politics and maybe it rubs people the wrong way, but that's entirely speculation.
Am I wrong?...or is this only Rutherford's second interview since he famously said he should stop talking so candidly and stepped back to have Allvin front?
Allvin has spoken more about this to the media than Rutherford has so it's held true
When you’re old. You speak your mind haha😂
I'd rather hear from the man who has won Cups.
Gary Mason is a good interview ... calm, intelligent, realistic, experienced ... have him on more often!
Gary Mason has always been a great journalist.

Today's NHL player(s) couldn't care less about the 'franchise'. Two things that they do care about are playing time and MONEY.
Right bench miller 4 the season healthy scratch
Petey and Miller is like a boring sexless marriage where the 2 people just avoid each other and put up a front like everything is great. The only problem is now everyone knows it's sexless and kids are involved...
I’d rather play out this year with both of them and deal with it in the off season rather than keep my expectations modest!!
not on management .... boys need to grow up and man up ... trades are not required ... maturity is ...
100% true
Management partly to blame hindsight being 20/20 when they kept miller over horvat
wrong miller has to go because of his sh1tty attitude and Petey is not playing to his potential so both can go
He threw gasoline on the fire I don't see how going public makes this situation any better. The Hockey Guy has a great take on this.

A good theory is that Rutherford is trying to prepare the market (ie us) for a "disappointing" return on a deal he will soon make.

Yes I know he mentioned one of these. I'm speaking to people like Rick who can't see the forest through the trees.
I think he said “ya know” more times in this segment than a hockey player says “uhh” in a postgame interview. It was hard to ignore.

There is a reason why the Ducks and Angels are perennial bottom feeders. There is no aspersions from ownership to pay to win.
Would like Mason McTavish for Petey. But probably not in the cards. Anaheim did trade for Trouba. The Ducks need to improve.
@@MollyMcGuire100 Ducks are still 10M below the cap floor with trouba next year
Miller would probably go to the Ducks. Not sure who they would send back.
He sure left out some pretty important quotes that changed the narrative as he “ran out of room” conveniently
Management is the one that decided to keep miller and trade horvat which gets lost in this story
Definitely prepping the market for a bad trade……maybe they have a few team restructuring trades on the horizon…….just a hunch

I can think of 16 million reasons *annually* as to why Miller and Pettersson should park it and get along.
I love Rutherford's honesty and openness.
God some of our fans are clueless...
The issue is Miller is frustrated with Petey's effort and he let's him know.
Bench miller 4 the rest of the season see if he wants to play
Wouldn’t it be better to dump his 8M cap hit so they can go out and get 8M in help back?
