you are so cute. I love watching your videos. Its better than watching TV..I am slowly learning about June Journals and all the cool things you do. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the heads up on the Fabrifix! I am relatively new to paper crafting, and had not heard of it. This stuff is GOLD in a bottle!!! Worth every dime! Thanks again :) Your work, and personality, are gorgeous!!
LOVE the guitars in the beginning. It's like you've got theme music! And your Go-To Essentials will help a lot of people cut out the trial and error of crafty book making. AWESOME! :-)
Hi Nik, all ready good info you took the time to share with us ... thanks. I've never tried that glue .. it's time I guess . Love you sharing this Nik you tubes with us .. great fun !!! Thanks again 😘
All of the above, especially that Fabritac. Love that glue. It can be repositioned if an error is caught quickly, you can rub off glue globs and it has a tight hold. It's expensive, but rarely on sale, so you can use that coupon you've got tucked in your wallet. Nik, this was a very fun video. Tfs
Those tips do pop off and you can refill with the sprays. I love Fabri Tac/Fix too. I don’t use it as often as you do it gets gloopy towards the end of the bottle. I’m so thankful you mentioned it was an acetone based product! Now I know what to thin it with!! I was going to try coffee and tea dye but was going to brew it. Thankfully you saved me the trouble! Thanks for the whole list! ❤️
Hi NIk!! I absolutely love your work! It has inspired me to move forward in my Art Journey . I was quite "stuck" for years but your tutorials and personality have jolted me into a much better Artist. You are a blessing.
LOL my fave glue is fabri-tac because I found that it does not wrinkle my pages. I did not realize that the reason behind that was that it was NOT water based. Thank you for sharing. I learn something new every day. ❤
Wow! There you were! Out in "public" with "people" - filming! I'm so proud of you! 😉😀 It's a new Nik! 😊 You gave me a smile because I know you have had anxiety about doing that in the past! Fun & informative video and I am appreciative of the information that you shared! Thank you! Always glad to see a video notification "pop up" from you! I watch you first! Thanks Nik! 😊
😄 Thanks for this post, useful & entertaining as always. Your posts are always so natural, makes me want to come and create with you👍🏼 Now off to the shop for me!!
Hi Nik! Thanks for the informative video. The Tim Holtz daubers are easy to refill! I wedge a scissor blade (be careful!!) and gently rock it back and forth on one side then again on the other until it's separated enough to pull off with your fingers. I've definitely pulled it open too quickly and splattered ink so now I cover the lid with my art tag before I remove it. Hope that helps!
Thanks for Sharing your knowledge! I am must starting to get into making some planners etc. and knowing these kinds of things up front will be a big help. Hoping to stain some papers this week end, wish me luck! Love your work! TFS Kelly
I'm a new fan/follower/viewer....your work is amazing, and you're very beautiful too. Thanks for the inspiration, and it's great to see YOU in your videos.
Thanks for sharing. I did notice at hobby lobby in Colorado, you can still buy the distress stains, and they sell the dobbers separately. You might even buy just the dobbers to put on the walnut ink that's cheaper. Or other inks you may have in the liquid form. If you can't find the dobbers I'd be happy to grab some for you. 😊
I apologize if someone already said this (didn’t want to read through all 123 comments) Ranger sells those dauber tops (the last I checked) that you can easily pop on and off those Distress STains.
This was so fun! Thanks for taking us along :) I just recently tried a matte enamel spray for the first time to seal some ink on a faux leather journal and loved it! I don't know why I hadn't used it before
Hey, Nik, nice list. I have never used Fabri-whatsit and since you were so kind to point out the scent, I won't be! ;-) Tim doesn't sell his distress stains in the daubers, BUT he does sell the in spray bottles, as you pointed out, AND he sells the dauber tips separately. I have found that the tips get funky after a while and I suspect that's why they stopped selling them attached to the bottles.
Hey Nik! Great vid. I have to admit two things...I don't make journals but I love to watch your vids. I make mini albums and get great ideas from you for my albums. Like today...H2O based glue vs. non-H2O glue, which I have here but never used. Going to give it a try on my next book. And, when I saw you reaching for the instant coffee in the beginning of the vid, my first thought was "Nik does not seem like the type of gal to drink instant coffee". LOL But now I understand the need for the coffee. And, yes, the tops of the stains come off. Thanks for all the inspiration!
chocolate is my motivator : ) I like that fabri tac glue too, I have had to thin it out with acetone a couple times... thanks for sharing your tried and trues but now all I can think about is if I could dip gummy bears in chocolate... ; )
Lorri Nichols pop a few M&M's in your mouth, don't chew them, wait for the sugar coating to melt off and then add the gummy bears. Now chew! It's yummy! Trust me! Just try it and you can thank me later ;)
Your cart looked so happy rolling out of the store. :D This was really informative. I was wondering if those two glues were the same thing. You can purchase the empty refillable craft daubers. I googled it and found that Walmart and Blick sell them. Probably other places do as well. Thanks for the video Nik.
Thx for the info. I really don't like ModPodge because it is so sticky. But I love DecouPage which is a DecoArts product. And I use the matt, the gloss, the for fabric, the for napkins, the antique to name a few for project specific applications. It's not so sticky. Thats just my opinion lol.
The Old Bohemian Gypsy I appreciate where you are coming from! If using Mod Podge as a final sealer, I always recommend giving the top a light, even coat with a clear, matte acrylic spray sealer. I find this works well to lock in the stickiness for those who have an issue with that. On the other hand, I like the DecouPage, too! Thank you so much for your comment :)
Thank you for all your great tips, go to items and yes gummi bears help. I just wanted to let you know that a good source told me that Fabri- Tac change their name to Fabri-Fix. You'll still see both names until they sell all of Fabri- Tac. look for clearances (Maybe). Your lucky to get it for 10.99 for 8 oz. Hear in San Diego,Ca It cost 14.99 to 17.99!!!
so Beacon also makes a glue called 3-in-1 and it is cheaper....I can get it at Joanns for 9.99, but then I use a coupon, so its 40-50% off that. I think its basically the same glue =)
My favorite way to eat gummy bears is with M&M's I pop a couple of M&M's in my mouth, don't chew them and when they are just starting to melt I pop a few gummy bears into the mix. Sounds weird I know, but just try it. It's yummy!
Hey there Nic the Booksmith 😊. Nice video. Thanks for making it. Have you ever used a sticky, but effective product called Yes Paste? I used to use it pretty exclusively when I made mini books, and used a brayer to spread it evenly after it had been applied to the paper. I didn't use it directly on the product, just the paper. The same way I spread any large amount of liquid adhesive even now. The brayer is such a great tool that a lot of crafters don't use anymore, except perhaps on the gel press. I was going to ask you if you got a face life, eye lift, changed the shape or color of your eyebrows, or what? And your hair looks gorgeous that way. You look maahvalous dahlink😊
they still sell the tim holtz distress stains in that kind of bottle! i brought quite a few from joanns as well but i think joanns only sell it online. but i know what you mean. you can hardly find them in the stores anymore =(
Are you sharing those gummy bears? 😊 The fabri-tek smell does bother me at times. Guess it depends on how much airflow I have in my craft room. Didn't realize it wasn't water based. I've been using a lot of Aileen's Quick Dry. It works great on the pockets and things, but I think I encountered the warping on my ledger book first attempt. I modge podged a couple sheets of chipboard together and pressed them while drying so the seemed mostly flat. But after doing the paper cover with Aileens, it is now a little more warped than I would like. Nice to know the reason. 😏😊
You were a lot of help til you got to the gumi bears!!! I gave up sugar of which I am really happy and healthier Until I see my old friends! Eat a few for me. And yes, FabriTac stinks. Tks
I hear ya, Virginia...I try to keep the sugar to a minimum. But, if I don't have a little every now and again, I kinda go crazy and binge on everything in sight!
I use the Beacon 3 in 1. I'm assuming it's also similar to fabri tac but I'm not sure. I've been wondering what exactly you would use that rustoleum spray for in relation to book making? Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed seeing your lovely face. Hugs 😘
Thanks for sharing, also do you have an Ocean State Job Lots store near you they sell fabric tac bottle half that size smaller for only 2.50....I buy about five bottles at a time.
Love your work! And thanks for the tips! I have just started coffee staining paper and I get it to darken, but can't seem to get the pretty stains I see everyone getting. Thought maybe the coffee was too weak so I did it again and it came out darker but no cool stains- any tips??? Oh and love the gummy bears- my fave!!
hhmmm...well, Melli, it all depends on the paper you use and how you lay it out to dry. I give a few tips that help me, try searching my Paper Stain Chat videos, I believe I put out some tips in there =)
You are so beautiful! I can't believe you are old enough to have a grown daughter! I watch all your videos--just love ya. I have problem; every time I use FabriTac, which is a lot, I keep getting shine on my projects. I try to do it just like you do, but still I can't manage. Any suggestions? Help? Also, on what do you spray the rustoleum! I would love to see you use that AND the dauber!
Also, I wanted to ask if you were still offering the full bookbinding class that I think was around 149. Or there about. I didn’t see it in your online teachable’s. Please please say yes!!!! 🤗
Leyanna Bird: I don’t remember which video I was watching so I can’t direct you to that, but just go to one of her newer videos and click on the Etsy shop link. On the left hand side you should see a box that has items for sale within categories, one of those being videos. Click on that and viola! Hope that helped,
Hi Jeanne! Do you mean the sealers? I think so....I mean, Ive stuck my nose on things Ive sprayed a day or so before and don't smell much of an odor at all. But, I would experiment with different sealers to see which one agrees with your sniffer ;)
Yes, yes, yes and especially yes on the gummy bears! Those dauber top thingys...just fyi, lindy’s stamp gang sells them for not very much. It fits their spray bottles which are about the same as the distress bottles. I haven’t actually checked to see if they fit only because I don’t have any. Ah! ( light bulb moment! ) I’ll check if my dauber stain tops fit the lindys bottles....hold on a minute....YES! It’s a match! The distress stain tops do pop off, so therefore refillable, but also they fit perfectly into a Lindy’s bottle. Just don’t fall in love with the Lindys sprays as I have. Fair warning. Especially the moon shadow colors. Just sayin....
hi mary! yep, you sure can! I talked about that in a video called "Sharing is Caring" several months ago. But, this can have varied results and I would suggest experimenting on scraps of whatever material you're going to use prior to diving into the main project. =)
Hello Nikki....I was just wondering if staining with coffee or tea has an effect on the paper, as in, is it acid free? Does if have any negative long term effect? Thanks.
Hi Sylvia! tea or coffee staining is NOT acid-free. Some acid will remain on the paper even once it has dried. How much this will affect the paper in years to come will differ according to whether you used coffee or tea and other factors such as whether or not the paper you used was acid-free in the first place and how you store the paper, its contact with light, etc. There are many experimenting with baking soda in their coffee/tea solution in order to neutralize the acid. But, I think you'd have to get some pH strips to verify the levels. Acidic papers have a pH below 7.0, acid free means that the paper’s pH is 7.0 (neutral) or higher (alkaline). Its def worth some investigating!
Nik have you ever tried to thin your Fabritac with 100% acetone it makes it last longer and easier to use I got the idea from a lovely lady that goes Aweezielck on RUclips Either a 1/4 or 1/3 of acetone and it really smells like nail polish remover, yikes! Also I'm sure you remember because this video is only a year old, what kind of lipstick are you wearing in this video?? I'm on the prowl for the perfect lipstick. Which I have yet to find and at 65 I'm beginning to give up hope ha!
Went to get me some of that FabriFix today, and was shocked to find that where I live, they want TWENTY-THREE dollars.....FOR A 4 OZ BOTTLE !!!!! =( Not gonna happen. Do you have a recommendation for a second choice ?
I'm in a smaller town on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada. When it comes to shopping, it's a desert out there. Beacon actually offers the 8 oz bottle of FabriTac for a reasonable $19.99 on Amazon.ca....but they want forty bucks to ship it. Say what ? We have a Michael's a few towns away, that I only get to a couple times a year....but to get an idea of what we pay here, you can safely double it, to what you pay there. (I won't even get into limited selection) lol I spend a lot of time researching what products people are using in tutorials, since many of them, I've never heard of. THEN...I try to find what substitutes or equivalents I can use. It's a lot of work I tell ya. lol Since I've run off at the mouth about all my woes, let me at least take this opportunity to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. Haven't hit a dud yet.
hello Nik! So nice to see your beautiful face! Have I told you that your complexion is gorgeous. I wondered why I couldn't find the daubers. Dang. Why do they do this to us??
This would have been far more helpful if you'd given various examples of what you used these products for. What makes them your Top 5? This is meant as a constructive criticism :)
WHAT?! Really? Tim's discontinuing the main product I rely on absolutely for My covers??!! When? Why? Where? Who? What? The first thing I thought of was that I can refill the bottles but some bottles are slightly more brittle on the foam than others so the foam does wear down. If it's discontinuing in USA We're really f****d here in UK because You have choices over there. We don't. Wow! Literally 70% or more of what I buy comes from USA. This is a sad day in Rebekahville
its like lipstick...as soon as you find the perfect color...bam! gone. But...by reading all the comments here, they say you can still get the dabber replacement tops online. There is hope!
+Nik the Booksmith Oh Thank God!! I shoulda read the comments section. I was having palpitations. The sprays are no good for what I want. They take days to dry too. There is a God yet! & You're so right about lipstick. They always do that! & it takes Years to find the right one again! P.S. & Martha Stewart is not doing craft stuff anymore! Her punches are the ultimate punch in the universe!
Ok so you've mentioned two things in this video which I abhor: Hobby Lobby and Mod-Podge. Nothing you can say will have me support a tore which has demonstrated such hateful policies, but Mod Podge? You love it, why? I do not like the warping or streaking; furthermore I've heard that it sticks to things when mailed. Care to share the good stuff?
Hi Claudia! yeah, like I said in the video, I certainly don't use it for everything. But, I do like it as an adhesive in certain applications. If you are wanting to use it as a top coat, I recommend letting it dry completely on the project and then giving it a light coat with that clear, matte sealer I talked about so that it won't be tacky/sticky afterward.
you are so cute.
A very informative video. Thank you very much for sharing!
LOVE the guitars in the beginning. It's like you've got theme music! And your Go-To Essentials will help a lot of people cut out the trial and error of crafty book making. AWESOME! :-)
so glad jenifer had you on her channel, you are such a joy and yes those gummies are the best
Tfs
This was a GREAT video...I love seeing what your favorites are...including the gummy bears!!! Yummy!! xo

Orange slices for me .... thank you for the tips!! You are Funny, pretty & talented ... ❤️🐞
Thanks Nik! 😊
you can buy empty plastic dabber containers from amazon. I buy them and put watered down paint in them for painting
debra eaves I
Lovely to see your face as well as hands this time! Thanks for sharing, going to try the fabritac if I can find some in uk
Thanks for this its great to see what's good and what you use. Like you I LOVE gummy bears from Haribo LOL
You can pry the dabber off. I did it with no issues......other than some Inkie fingers. I used a butter knife to just pry/lift the dabber piece.
Thanks for Sharing your knowledge! I am must starting to get into making some planners etc. and knowing these kinds of things up front will be a big help. Hoping to stain some papers this week end, wish me luck! Love your work! TFS Kelly
My sister got me hooked on the sour haribo gummy bears, yum!!!
Thank you for the tip about the glue! I didn't even realize!
Fabritac glue is my favorite go to glue! I use it on everything❤️❤️❤️. Thanks for this video! Sending you love from Houston.
I'm a new fan/follower/viewer....your work is amazing, and you're very beautiful too. Thanks for the inspiration, and it's great to see YOU in your videos.
Thank you Nik for the tips crafty hugs xx
Very useful info! Thanks, Nik!
I love that my paper smells like coffee...it's so relaxing.
Great little video - you're funny in a very good way x
I just watched the vid making Franken pages and wanted to learn about the glue you used. Saw this vid, and wow, great info! Thanks!!!
Yes Haribo comes from our little country and are totally the best..🤪👍
Such great info! Thanks so much! 💞🦋🌈
Thanks for sharing. I did notice at hobby lobby in Colorado, you can still buy the distress stains, and they sell the dobbers separately. Great video!!! Thanks for sharing :)
This was so fun! Thanks for taking us along :) I just recently tried a matte enamel spray for the first time to seal some ink on a faux leather journal and loved it! I don't know why I hadn't used it before

Great to see you.. lovely video... !!
You might like 'yes' paste. I used it in bookbinding and at the framing shop when doing archival work, I think you'd like it
You can get the daubers on Hobby Lobby's website to replace the newer spray bottles and they just twist on. No prying.
Thank you - that was a very helpful video! Haribo gummy bears are the BEST! :)
Hey Nik! Great vid. I have to admit two things...I don't make journals but I love to watch your vids. I make mini albums and get great ideas from you for my albums. yeah...instant coffee is only for staining paper, useless for all other applications, especially if mixed with hot water in a mug. 😣
I dunno about that one! I should send you some Brasilian instant coffee to try....pretty good! LOL
I love this video!! Going to try it’s all. Except gummy bears I like gummy lifesavers!!
yup, those are great, too ;)
Love the Haribo Bear shout out. ;^)

Great info!
I refill my Distress stains with the sprays. Easy peasy. :)
You are adorable!!!!!
Thank you.
I love knowing what other peoples go to goodies are! Now what I really want to know is what do you use to get that gorgeous, Dewey looking skin!!!! 😊👍
dude...bright lights blur a lot of wrinkles ;) If I get them too bright, I just look like a couple of floating eyeballs o.O haha! thank you, Wendy ;)

Thank you so much, that actually help me alot!!
Also, let me tell you... Darling you're so gorgeous!! 😱🌸
I think you can get empty bingo daubers from oriental trading to refill with inks our even paints or whatnot. I've been toying with the idea.
they still sell the tim holtz distress stains in that kind of bottle! i brought quite a few from joanns as well but i think joanns only sell it online. but i know what you mean. you can hardly find them in the stores anymore =(

Mine are Gobstoppers
I've always wondered about the difference between the two glue names. I guess what you said makes sense. 🤔🤔 And Haribo! Lol I love gummy everything! 😂
I removed the tops from my daubers to use the ink in spray bottles ...a bit messy but yes they do come off 😊
You are so beautiful! I can't believe you are old enough to have a grown daughter! I watch all your videos--just love ya. I found it!
oh sorry...just found this, but you got it! thanks, Wendy!
Sorry where did you find it?!

I was hoping to avoid 'stuck my nose' on item syndrome teehee! Thanks Nik I'll try the Rustoleum since I bet you used your sniffer on it :)
You could probably buy empty bingo daubers and fill those.
Sue Chesley, Oh I know what you mean about Lindy's!!!! It can be an addiction! LOL 😁
just sayin....hahahaha! love that =)
how about a spray sealant on chipboard before mod podge?
hi mary! yep, you sure can!
Thanks for this info Nik. I add a pinch of bi-carb to my coffee anyway so maybe it would be enough. Thanks for your reply, very helpful.
Gummy bears top off with Whoppers or Milk Duds 😜
Check Blitsy for the daubers
Does the paper smell of coffee after it dries
it does slightly, at least for a while. If you don't like that scent, try the tea!
Not gonna happen. Do you have a recommendation for a second choice ?
woah....where do you live? Any permanent fabric glue will do fine or really any fast-grab craft glue. 23 bux! 😵
(I won't even get into limited selection) lol
I spend a lot of time researching what products people are using in tutorials, since many of them, I've never heard of. THEN...I try to find what substitutes or equivalents I can use. It's a lot of work I tell ya. lol
Since I've run off at the mouth about all my woes, let me at least take this opportunity to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. Haven't hit a dud yet.
Amazon sells it.
hello Nik! So nice to see your beautiful face! Have I told you that your complexion is gorgeous. I wondered why I couldn't find the daubers. Dang. Why do they do this to us??
Kay Hammock check on u tube and you will find a diy for the dobbers.
This would have been far more helpful if you'd given various examples of what you used these products for. What makes them your Top 5? This is meant as a constructive criticism :)
I hear you, loud and clear Jackie and will def elaborate more next time ;)
By bingo dabbers
WHAT?!
My daubers wear out
💋💗💙tfs
Thanks for the tips and please forgive me for neglecting to comment on how much I love your work; so glad to have found you!
