Can we talk about ocean tho? Cuz I low key relate to her. Middle school me was not an era… I’m only thankful I grew out of that before I literally died. I think a lot of her mindset comes from being a “gifted” kid in a small town. You’re constantly being told that “those people” aren’t going to make it out of the town, that they’re stuck and you’re free. Which is why “sugar cloud” is soooo good. It is the exact opposite of what the world needs and kind of helps wrap up oceans character development. Love this musical!!!
That's a great way to describe it. When your competition is not that hard to beat and you're constantly lifted up by your family and friends you become much more confident and think you're better than you really are. When she gets to vote at the end I love that she picks Jane, it really is perfect character develepoment
Oh hey, same. Fuck the gifted and talented program, all my homies hate the gifted and talented program, that shit gave me the biggest superiority complex when I was younger.
I love her reaction after "I should mention it will be a unanimous decision between your peers" Like she just burned them and then that happened, she knew she was doomed

I love how ableist ocean is /sarc. Literally says the only thing Ricky would accomplish in life is solving a rubix cube. I also never understood why she was naming random apps before spitting garbage about Ricky.
Spoiler comment! I appreciate the fact that every choir member has a five minute number that represents their journey, even if it isn’t a full song. Jane Doe, Noel, and Ricky have full five minute songs, I believe this is because they already know what they want and what they believe in. Jane Doe doesn’t need multiple numbers because her entire song is how she yearns for an identity she doesn’t have yet. Noel knew what he wanted and who he was. His number was about him wishing to be who he really was inside. If he was chosen to be brought back, he would be more like the person he wanted to be. Ricky’s number is about his freedom and being heard, he just wanted to say his piece and make an impact. I personally believe Ricky is a representation of the good in the world that needs to be seen and/or heard. The second half of the choir, Ocean, Constance, and Misha, all have multiple numbers because they had more of a journey to go through. Misha has two songs and starts off by saying he only has two emotions, rage and passion. His songs correlates with his catchphrase, how his gangster persona is a cover to conceal his broken heart. Misha’s first song is how he appeared on the outside and the rage he feels, but his second song was his true self. Talia outlines Misha’s passion for the people he loves, as well as show who he really is under his tough guy disguise. Constance also has two numbers, one is a monologue that occurs right before her song, this dialogue explains the pain and sorrow Constance felt in life, feeling negatively influenced by her peers and starting to believe she was wrong for loving her life. She explained what made her life worth living and how she wished to change nothing about it. Her song was an extent of her speech, saying she was content with how her life was and that she saw the light in life again. While one could say that Ocean only has “What the World Needs” or that and “Every Story Has a Lesson” but I believe “New Birthday Song” also counts as one of Ocean’s songs. In the beginning, Ocean believes that she is superior to her peers because she is more successful than they are. During her first two songs, she explains why others are wrong and she is right. During the second song however, her notion that every story must have a lesson is shut down, and I believe this is the beginning of her growth. After spending time with the choir and learning more about them, she starts to see things a bit more openly. By the end, she is not only more empathetic but also more like the leader she acted like she was. In NBS, she is the one to initiate the scene in an attempt to make Jane feel better about not knowing herself. This is the final point in Ocean’s growth where she sees her peers as equals and deserving of the same chances as she is. In the end, it was Ocean who had the say in who would be sent back, in the beginning, she might have picked herself, but at the end of the show, Ocean had become a better person by seeing flaws and quirks as something more than just imperfections.

No one can blame you, it was limited release. Not to mention the original playwright died a few years ago… and one character had a major rewrite/ characterisation change.

@@Shining-Prism It isn't! Its actually about a group of 6 teenagers in a chour who died on a roller coaster called the cyclone. I wont spoil it too much for you
To be fair, Ocean is the teacher’s pet who does get good grades, Karnak describes her as an overachiever, does extracurriculars such as student council and the choir and decided to be a Catholic, Jewish and Buddhist all wrapped into one.
does anyone know why the lyrics at 1:26 changed between the recording and the show? in all the live videos I've seen the lyrics are "Angry Birds, Candy Crush, he's a real sweet kid but his brains are mush!"

Maybe they are not the right pitch/voice for you. A quick search states that Ocean and Jane are vocally Soprano and Constance is an Alto. I think the lowest singing voice a female can go is contralto. There are lots of vocal tutorials that can help find your singing range. If you know what the lowest note you and sing and the highest you can sing, there might be a way to figure out which part, if not, maybe a search on the song you want to sing in a lower register.

Me Too.
When she gets to vote at the end I love that she picks Jane, it really is perfect character develepoment

the “keep your head down and things will look up” is ocean’s tip to the waiter who gives her coke and a medium fries - clever lyrics
In the end, it was Ocean who had the say in who would be sent back, in the beginning, she might have picked herself, but at the end of the show, Ocean had become a better person by seeing flaws and quirks as something more than just imperfections.
okay but this was honestly one of the best rtc analysis comments i’ve seen 👏👏

Ik we’re supposed to see ocean as an asshole, but her song is just too good
she was THE character growth
Wait, isn't this musical one of the musicals shown on Drawfee that was only given the name and description as a drawing challenge?
Yeah!
WHAT EPISODE OMG
What's drawfree?
i saw an edit of mina ashido to this and while mina’s personality in canon is nothing like this it was so amusing seeing it bc this vocalist sounds SO much like caitlin glass
dont know if anyones done this, but someone should speed up this song every time she says something bitchy just to see how long it ends up being
Someone did ^^ it was like 30 minutes or so
I MISREAD. Someone did it with the whole show, not just the song lmaoooo
@@reveluver6192 WOW, the show is only 90 minutes long dude! did they all turn into buzzing high pitched mosquitos when Ocean's song came on? 😂
@@cl0ud_9 yes 😭 it was really funny. Went from animal crossing to just unintelligible chipmunk screechy noises
“And while she talks and talks, Virgil choose and choose. Let’s speed her up.”
i dont have the right voice to sing any of the characters songs and it makes me cry, i have a slightly masculine but mostly feminine monotone voice 😭
@@moonwalkerangel7008 thats actually really helpful thank you :D
Try Heather Chandler from Heathers
@@Mowai-s9i still way too high sometimes, I think my mums gonna help me get vocal training soon so maybe that'll help
saw this live in early june. even more fun and insane live😭😭😭
Running around my room dancing to this rn
IDC What ya’ll say, Ocean IS what the world needs 😌💅
I’ve never heard such a proud bully in song form I gotta watch this lol
