I saw your review of running up that hill. You guys talked about having discovered Kate bush with this first reaction to her. You were definitely right! This was a premonition the "Stranger Things" to come in 2022. From Nick in his Stranger Things T-shirt to RUTH (as Kate Bush calls Running Up That Hill) making a guest appearance at the end. Bravo🔮

If this is the only Kate Bush you’ve listened to apart from Wuthering Heights then you’ve chosen a deep place to come in. The whole of side 2 of the Hounds of Love album is called “The Ninth Wave” and it tells the story of a woman lost at sea and what she experiences and thinks/hallucinates over night in the icy water. It’s a great 20 minute piece as a whole. Side one of the album is 5 more ‘commercial’ with z4 of the songs being released as singles - all are great! Kate is a unique talent and has released some fantastic memorable atmospheric albums and songs over the years. She is so much more than Wuthering Heights and is held in high esteem by musicians

When you listen closely to her voice in the video where she is swimming in the water, you hear it quiver. She sang that in the tank, and when you are in the water for hours, you suffer from hypothermia, regardless how warm the water appears.

When you rescue people from the water, the most dangerous moment is when you lift them up (by helicopter). Your blood concentrates in the center of your body to keep the essential organs working, and when you lift a person vertically up, chances are that the blood simply sags down into your legs, and you die in the moment of your salvation. If possible, they use a stretcher and lift the people horizontally.

Thank goodness they gave this suite from the Ninth Wave a go.. as it did exactly as I expected it to do, it stoked their interest and desire to hear more.
Though I absolutely love Wuthering Heights, people always request it as a first react, and if someone doesn’t know the story or listen close enough to grasp it, there’s so much lost in it’s obscured meaning and it becomes another “pretty song” from and artist with a “pretty voice”.. which seems profoundly tragic as a missed opportunity to clue someone into the immense intellect and theatrical creative visionary that Kate Bush truly is.
There are certain artists who desperately deserve a much deeper dive than anything a single “radio hit” has the ability to deliver, and I for one am immensely thankful that their follower Michelle went the distance to actually on once them to listen to this as a short suite, though I agree would’ve been fantastic if they had gone the entire distance through the Ninth Wave. One of my favorite songs on the record is the very moment of death for the character lost in the water “Watching You Without Me”.. it is absolutely mystifyingly profound.

I’ve watched several of your videos recently and have noticed that you like Peter Gabriel - I think I’m right in saying that he sort of ‘discovered’ Kate Bush - either way he was very impressed with her talent. As several people have commented, she is a musician’s musician, and give how talented Peter Gabriel is, compliments don’t come much better than that. (Interesting that you struggled to classify her music, but considered her style slightly ‘Prog’ - given that Peter Gabriel/Genesis certainly started there and his interest in her.)

I've been a Kate Bush fan since I saw her perform on SNL way back in the late '70s. For me this is her best album artistically withe the singles on side 1 and the suite of songs on side 2. Kate produced this herself in addition to writing the songs. Yes the whole 2nd side is a trip. This album is in my top 10, maybe top 5 of all-time best albums.
Her career took a break for 12 years when she had a child, she eventually came back with 2 more albums and finally did a tour a few years ago.

Another great job on an artist that is one of my favorites. She was discovered by David Gilmour in case you weren't aware. People often declare that such and such an artist is one of a kind, and most are not, BUT Kate Bush is one of a kind. Her voice is so emotional and lofty and haunting. She has never EVER done anything that's considered conventional, it's constantly changing and I love her for that. Her early albums have her voice in the upper ranges and it sounds mousy so for many people it's grating and I get it, I've been able to look past it. Her later works (such as the one you've reacted to) have her voice in the right pitch and my goodness it never fails to give me chills. When you have video capabilities I'm going to have you watch her duet with Peter Gabriel called "Don't Give Up". Nick & Lex, I guarantee the BOTH of you will cry, no question about it. The song is wonderful BUT the video, OMG is breathtakingly simple, beautiful, and emotional. You MUST see the video with the song, that is a MUST MUST MUST. For me, it's the most beautiful love song I've ever heard that never utters the word love. As usual, keep up the great work and keep loving each other.

A little trivia for you, David Gilmour discovered Kate when she was 15 years old via a friend of the Bush family. He was so impressed that he set her up in a studio so she could make a proper demo before presenting it to EMI. EMI signed her but put her on hold for a few years so she could grow up, Kate spent her advance learning modern dance & theatre with David Bowie's teacher Lindsey Kemp. She also put together a band and did a few shows at local pubs and of course continued to write songs. Once she became of age, she started recording her first album called "The Kick Inside" and the rest is history. She became the 1st woman with a self-penned song "Wuthering Heights" and album to reach the UK #1 at the tender age of 19. Her genius was evident from the very beginning. Talk about the stars aligning for 3 months in 1958: Prince-June, Kate-July, Madonna-Aug, Michael Jackson-Aug. BTW, she had fully taken control of her art by Hounds of Love, Kate set up a home studio and was able to let her muse go wild. Kate wrote, arranged, played piano, Fairlight CMI, voice and produced this album and used studio musicians where needed. Her boyfriend at the time was Del Palmer (bass player) who ended up with engineering duties as well. Kate is mainly self-taught and an original.

Kate Bush, England's Best Kept Secret. This woman was a child prodigy. She was discovered by David Gilmour as a teen. Her music, her dancing, her miming, her choreography are all breathtaking works of art. *Kate Bush is the pioneer of the wireless headset as it was necessary for her expressionist dance choreography in concert.* I hope you continue to explore both her unique music and videos.
I have discovered your channel today and I have subscribed. There is so much talented brilliance in the world of rock that I severely limit myself to whom I call a musical genius. I bought the "Hounds of Love" album back in the 80s, although it seems like just yesterday. I remember the cashier at the record store stating that this was an incredible album. With a knowing expression, he assured me that I would love it, and he was so right! Listening to it was an experience to be treasured. Honestly, I don't know of any other artist that compares to Kate Bush. Back in the 80s, this kind of music seemed like something so magical to me. It was not a true part of popular culture as this would never be heard on the radio. As a fan, I felt like I belonged to some special, exclusive club that was privy to Kate's haunting, deeply meaningful, lovely and ethereal songs.

Of course she had appeared as a guest on numerous performances, but these were her first concerts in 35 years. She performed in residency at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. for 22 nights! It was a multimedia, theatrical performance, Tickets went on sale and were completely sold out in 15 minutes! It was the same venue she performed her last concert in 1979, when it was named the Hammersmith Oedeon.

Catherine Bush CBE (born 30 July 1958) is an English singer, songwriter, musician, dancer and record producer. In 1978, aged 19, she topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks with her debut single "Wuthering Heights", becoming the first female artist to achieve a UK number one with a self-written song.
Bush began writing songs at 11. She was signed to EMI Records after Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour helped produce a demo tape. Her debut album, The Kick Inside, was released in 1978. Bush slowly gained artistic independence in album production and has produced all her studio albums since The Dreaming (1982). She took a hiatus between her seventh and eighth albums, The Red Shoes (1993) and Aerial (2005). Bush drew attention again in 2014 with her concert residency Before the Dawn, her first shows since 1979's The Tour of Life.
Bush's eclectic and experimental musical style, unconventional lyrics, and literary themes have influenced a diverse range of artists. She has been nominated for 13 British Phonographic Industry accolades,[12] winning for Best British Female Artist in 1987,[13] and has been nominated for three Grammy Awards. In 2002, Bush was recognised with an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. Bush was appointed a CBE in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to music.[14][15] She was nominated twice for induction in the 2018 and 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[16][17]

She is a poet, did mime, and choreographed her shows, plays piano, and dances. Her voice has a very wide range. Kate is a genius and was ahead of her time. An Irish girl spending much of her time in England.

Always when people react to Kate Bush, for some reason it usually happens to be “Wuthering Heights” and just feels like such a loss, cause unless you know the book or film, it just seems like just another pretty song and pretty story.. making Kate Bush more easily overlooked as a more common pop singer.. which is absurdly criminal, when we know what a highly intellectual and creative force she truly is.
I keep coming back to the Hendrix story on these reaction channels. People always request “Hey Joe” or “Purple Haze” or “All Along The Watchtower” when requesting Hendrix. Notice anything wrong with that? They’re all truly great songs, as most would agree, but they’re also the most overplayed radio “hits” that he had, and for any true fan, don’t even begin to scrape the surface of his incredibly innovative and jaw dropping catalogue.. they’re pop songs.
Moreover, two of those songs are covers, and weren’t written by him.. “Hey Joe” was actually one of the most heavily covered songs of the 60’s.. everyone did it, so much so that they considered it a big risk to even release it, but his version was so better by far than any others who covered it, they took the chance and scored nonetheless.
But Hendrix himself absolutely hated those songs after the first years or so, because they were stipulated as “must play” songs anytime he performed live.. when he had long outgrown them and moved onto far more interesting territory.. but many don’t even know this or understand why he’s so legendary because all they hear are the same few pop songs that have long been played into the ground by the radio.. so when someone requests those songs to reacters who’ve never heard him, it’s great and all that they are hearing it, but there’s this amazing untapped potential lost for a reaction that would have potentially made them wanna react to more, and perhaps even become another lifelong fan.
This is the exact same thing I see happening over and over again, and it’s largely because of the monopoly radio has had for so long on people’s listening. Where’s the real meat? The more potent concoction that glues a performers fan base together for decades even after they’re gone? THOSE ARE THE SONGS that need to be heard!
Though there certainly are indeed many pop hits that totally deserve a listen, like when they mentioned Madonna, but with many artists of Kate Bush’s ilk, they are far more deserving of a much deeper look, so I applaud your tenacity to deliver that here.. as to me, it seems they will be much more enthusiastic about hearing more, which with Kate Bush, really deserves a deep dive just to even begin to understand her, unlike the many hit makers that saturate the musical library comprising the history of recorded music.

I have been listening to music for about 64 plus years and last year was the first time I heard Kate Bush. So far I have 3 favorites :A Woman's Work, Babooshka, and Running up that hill. I have heard quite a few of her songs and actually like all of them so far for their differences. She is so talented she is totally amazing.

Kate Bush is a prog rock artist in the sense that her music is completely original and unique. Her compositions are complex and creative without being alienating, she's a fantastic pianist and has an astounding voice. You should check out her stage show back in the late 70s. Very theatrical, with dance and mime ... almost circus-like. But the quality of the music never takes second place! In short, Kate Bush is a sublime artist.

Tennyson’s Ninth Wave (just for fun):
“Wave after wave, each mightier than the last; Til last, a NINTH one, gathering half the deep; And full of VOICES, slowly rose and plunged; Roaring, and all the wave was in a flame.”
Someone reported that at a live Kate Bush performance, all this confetti dropped with these lines from “The Ninth Wave” printed on each. Wow. That’s attention to detail. 💜

I can't believe you've chosen exactly these songs from this album! Kate's best album ever. OMG, listening to these songs is vaulting me back into the best time of my live, my youth in the mid 1980ies, in Germany. I LOVE these songs, and the whole album so much! The music is out of this world, experimental but melodic at the same time. Once you've heard it, it's implanted into your brain for eternity. Thank you so much for your choice, and for your reaction 😍👍 Btw, you might know "Running up that hill" and "Cloudbusting", I guess.
