  • 1967 would be the first year for the long-running Chevrolet Camaro. Introduced as a competitor to the top-selling Ford Mustang, the Camaro would sell over 220,000 units in the first year alone. Out of these, only 602 were of the Z/28 variety. This package featured a 302 cubic inch V8 making 290 horsepower. More importantly, it qualified for the highly popular SCCA Trans-Am Racing Series. Also included in this package were power front disc brakes, upgraded suspension, and a four-speed close-ratio Muncie manual transmission.
In this video, AMCM's Mark Pieloch talks about the importance of the new Camaro and the history of our Deep Water Blue Z/28. For more about this and other Camaros in the museum collection, check out the Museum's website at AmericanMuscleCarMuseum.com

I enjoy the flashbacks to times of when the cars first came out. Really connects the viewer to the history of the car. Beautiful car!

My uncle owns a 1967 Z28/RS camaro. Factory red with white stripes. He said that Chevrolet made them originally to be put in NASCAR. That's the reason they only made 602 of them. That's how many had to be sold to the public in order to use them in NASCAR. He told me several years ago that he had 1 out of 3 in existence. He found it in an old barn in Florida where he lives. It had been made into a drag car. Luckily the man he bought it from didn't know how rare it was, hence him buying it dirt cheap! He had it restored all original. He has won numerous trophies over the years including Best Muscle Car in the state of Florida and Best camaro in the state of Florida. It's also been featured in Hot Rod and other magazines.

602 Z/28s were sold to the public in 67. My first car late 80s was a tahitian? Turquoise one
Seller and myself believed it was just a 4 spd rs .Not til yrs after I sold it I learned from engine/tag codes I in fact owned the real mcoy . I was crushed..sold it for 1200 late 80s. Let someone drive it and they jammed the linkage
HAppened 2 prior times, both letting friends drive it ,Ea time I was told it needed rebuilt...too young to know I got scammed by trans shops I planned on keeping that car til the end. I was in love with that thing cant explain it.
Guy I sold it to put a 350 auto in it was all riced out.
Ca plate ironically enough was ZRS 405
