You can tell he was worried about doing this song live but it was during the song he realized that we all loved it regardless of the internets opinion. Infact the live version sounds so much better with no autotune.

I think he's crying because they picked up the part he couldn't sing on his own. The impulsive debut of this song sung for the first time and his audience came through, audibly singing not just the main song, but "smile back, at me", making the first performance a complete performance of the song. I'd be crying too.
I hope we get a room below version of this song, sounds great on the album but it'd sound amazing with clean vocals and a piano
