It's actually pretty cool in the winter. No people and some really wild rime ice formations on the wind exposed slopes.

Our first time in the gorge this past weekend. We drove past this after visiting hood river and I was wondering about it - glad we didn't do it. We did the Wahkeena loop since we were staying near there and that was a great hike with some great waterfalls and views.

You made the right decision. Wahkeena is a much more pleasant and rewarding hike.

We just hiked this today and I can confirm everything he said in the video is accurate.

Sums that up nicely indeed. Did this once 8 years ago in September. Probably won't do it again as there are so many other better hikes nearby.

It’s just so bizarre to me that it’s so popular….🙄

Could you recommend a better place to hike in the area? I'm coming from Toronto Canada to Portland in early August.

@@rebeccabender2753 McNeil Point is where I'd take someone visiting for the first time. It's a few miles longer than Dog Mountain but you'll get up-close views of Mt Hood, and if you make it up past the shelter onto the ridge you can look down onto the Glisan and Sandy glaciers. For something shorter check out Silver Star, great views from the top on a clear day.

Flowers come in a close 2nd to mountain biking. So what's your problem.

Trekking poles? Bah, it’s great for trail running.
Hopefully this video helps keep some of the unprepared Portland traffic away. Watching people hike this is like stepping into Walmart; guaranteed comedy, worry, and confusion.

I totally agree with you about trail running on it. For more intense sports, it’s a good destination, but for a casual hiker it’s kind of stupid and anticlimactic.

@@VoiceOverTrailReviews I would disagree but my wife completely agrees… she hates doing it. “We look at this every day, why hike to see it.”
There are much better hikes for similar if not better payoffs.

I would call it overhyped more than overrated. Just up there today, it was nice.
