Know what you have and where you keep it. I remember not being able to find red wine vinegar. I decluttered my cupboards later and found 3. Now I have a much more organized cupboard. I had to throw one of them out because, weirdly enough, it had gone bad. It tasted moldy. I didn't think it was possible, but it happened.
To be frugal and minimalist for the rest of my life, I have it very, very clear. Those are the best decisions I've made 3 years ago, how much I would have liked to be like this since I was little, I wouldn't have wasted so much money, 🤦🏻♀️ my valuable time 🤦🏻♀️ I wouldn't have made so many emotional, impulsive and social pressure decisions… I am already married to frugalism and minimalism, here there will never be divorce or separation of property 😜😂
Hi Agustin thank you for another great frugal video! Every time I am tempted to buy something new clothes for myself I will ask myself “Is this necessary? Do I really need it? I didn’t leave the house desperately needing to buy this so I do not need to buy this”
Make soup and don’t waste any food. I also make bread twice a week this alone saves me so much money! I also have a no spend week every month where I shop the freezer 🙏
I just thought of one. Take care of the things you own. Keep your home, auto, etc. in tidy and working order. It fosters discipline and shows you respect yourself.
Definitely holds hands up for that one tbh. I'm on a no home food spend month. I'm just gunna use what I have at home, anything free off of the Olio app, free food at work. The only things I'm allowing myself to buy is a chicken & a broccoli once a week (I'm on a diet and these are what I cook for work, has to be high protein low carb docs orders!) and spend only £5 when im at bfs for dinner as his mum doesn't allow us to use the cooker so left with not much options. Curious how much il save
My comment: say no to nail salons. Learn to do your own manicures 💅🏼 and pedicures. Honestly, if you can’t reach your toes (too fat or pregnant), get a relative to paint the toenails. I have a waitress friend who pays $70/every other week for her fake nails. She barely makes that much in a shift if that. Whereas I have a UV light gel nail set from Walmart. Resist the temptation! Don’t go to a salon! They’re generally rude anyway and if not to your face, then in another language behind your back
I haven’t been to a nail salon in 10 years. I do my own nails and I do a much better job than the salons do. I also got very tired of being hustled for gel nails (no, just a regular mani pedi thanks), hustled to have flowers painted on my toes nails, hustled for a neck massage (no thanks, I see a professional massage therapist for massages) and on and on. One of my best friends almost lost her thumb due to an infection she got from a nail salon. After that happened I bought a foot whirlpool bath from Amazon & never looked back. The nail salons where I live always wanted me to pay with cash instead of a card & if I paid with a card they wanted their tips paid with cash so that they didn’t have to claim their tips as income. I always REFUSED. They can claim their tips as income like all service providers are supposed to do.
I do my own nails at home too, but the pedicure is a must. I pay $25 at the salon I go to, it’s not gel, but I don’t get the gel anyway for health reasons. Doing my roots at home also saves me tons.
This is my 3rd post here. I set my clock 1 hour ahead. I'm not recommending this to others but it was life changing for me before I retired. It caused me to get up early and have a relaxed morning as you stated. I was never late for work or appointments and my blood pressure stayed down. Even though I never forgot the clock was 1 hour ahead of time it still set me up for success every day. Did it for years.
A frugal habit I will have for life is following a vegan diet. Oats, beans, lentils, bananas, potatoes and rice are some of the most economical items in the supermarket.
The 8 HABITS: 1.) Not falling for the hype -Example: Girl scouts cookies 2.) Treat treats as treats -Ex: the Daily latte 3.) Understand what you have, Luxuries like Ex: indoor plumbing. 4.) Cut waste, not spending -Ex: overpriced groceries, Whole Foods? 5.) Wake 1 hour before leaving the house -Ex: Disrupt one’s Stressful mornings 6.) Don’t deprive yourself -Ex: small decisions everyday. 7.) Always consider your future self -Ex: credit 💳card debt. 8.) VALUE Time over Stuff -Ex: “widgets”
So right about Girl Scout cookies! 30 years ago my wife and I had a girl scout troop, and when cookie selling time came around we told the moms and dads that if they really wanted to help their daughters enjoy scouting, just make a small donation directly to our troop rather than blowing tons of money on Girl Scout cookies. Bake your own cookies or buy them and a bakery and you'll enjoy much better cookies, and a simple five dollar donation directly to our troop had the same value to the girls as buying ten boxes of those mediocre cookies! Needless to say, we weren't to scout council's favorite people!
Treat treats as treats and not a financial diet of candy!!!!! ABSOLUTELY LOVED that phrase!!!!!! Very clever. You are such a good writer Agustin. You've got me for life xx
You amaze me by always finding new ways of frugall living. One quote that i love is 'He who buys what he DOESN T NEED one day he CANNOT buy things he REALLY NEEDS
Girl scout cookies are there to help them pay for camps and such. Aldi's has excellent impersonations for way less money. We make a meal every week that is an impersonation of restaurant food. This week I'm making the Cracker Barrel meatloaf. Eating out weekly is something that is relatively new in our society, never mind more times weekly. My coffee maker brews coffee as we get ready. So it's ready when we get up. It irritates me to no end when a driver headed to McDonald's or Wawa to get coffee is tailgating me. I'm driving above the limit. Make your own damn coffee. You won't be such a jerk on the road in the morning!
"Treat treats as treats" at 2:21 is the most important piece of advice to me personally because I have struggled with discretionary spending throughout my adult life. Most of us have enough to cover our necessities. The trouble arises when we get addicted to expensive things that should be, as Agustin says, occasional treats only, and we indulge in them every day. This is a surefire method of losing money and having no savings at the end of the year. Thanks again Agustin for one more useful and entertaining video!
You are so right about all these points! For me personally, growing up I was only taught about how to SAVE money, not how to SPEND. Both are essential money skills I think. Good news is its never too late to change. Thanks for another insightful video. :)

Great tips for saving money in 2023! Developing frugal habits can help you reach your financial goals faster and with less stress. Small changes like cooking at home more often or using a budgeting app can make a big difference over time. Thanks for sharing these tips!
People spend so much money for the perfect kitchen, but dont cook much!So dont spend money for a kitchen or dont spend money for convienient food!If you have a car use it all the time or have no car at all, everything between is uneconomical!
Its really rough. On one hand you can be frugal, but some people sometimes do not have much of a choice. On the other hand if you for exemple only choose to save the little you have every month and never do or get yourself something thats worth living for. It can make life a tug of war between trying to save up money for a emegency fund or to spend it. In my case I can save about 100 euris a month, but I also have to spend it the same year on unexpected expenses. Sonetimes on thing I want. It seems hardly woth it at all. And I already do not do much. No outings no going exoensive places with friends. However I do still spend money. Sometimes I love what I add to my life but I hate money being gone. I feel so scared and insicure when it is about money. I almost can not enjoy my life at times. Prices of groceries are going up a lot where I live. We have no controll over that. It has almost doubled in the past 2 years. So how can I do anything at this point. I dont know what I want with life because the way things are going now I see very glum.
Living in Mexico now, you're right it put things into perspective to live outside of the western comfort zone. But the interesting thing is that I'm so much more relaxed than I used to be !
@@aurorem.3945 Awesome. I’m not one of those concerned with “is Mexico safe”. I try and visit Mexico every year. I do have dual citizenship Mex/US and speak Spanish. Just need 2 years before becoming eligible for retirement from my employer. Any way I can reach you to ask more thorough questions and ask you about your experience living Mexico? If you’re not up to it no worries and I understand. Thanks for replying.
I agree with a lot of these points. What I like to follow is the trait of spending with purpose. It follows the same characteristics that were laid out. Treating treats as treats is a big one that I'm working on now.
Decide how much you want to save first and take that out of your income first. Then live off of what is left no matter how hard that may be. You can do it!😉
Aha! Think of your future self! Best advice for me that I've been neglecting. Keeping that in mind will help me make wiser decisions. I'll keep that advice in my pocket, thank you very much.
The thing about not falling for the hype and making up your own mind about what you like is that this makes you interesting to other people. People will recognize that you are into something that is different from the norm.
I get up an hour or more sometimes before I have to leave for work. I don't like being in a rush, because I'll inevitably forget something. I like to take my time to do this thoughtfully and quietly before the world is in my face.
It's funny that I wanna learn more about frugality lifestyle being from Ecuador and recently found your a channel of someone who lived here for two years, people commonly don't have this mindset here either so your content has been encouraging and helpful, keep doing what you're doing!
I just found your channel this morning and am enjoying your content! I loved this list of frugal habits because it's a different list. None of the other channels really talk about these habits. Great video! Thx for sharing!
Girl Scout cookies! You are so right about them. I do not buy them. I blame my food allergies. Similarly, there are other fundraisers. I decline those too, saying that I have a personal policy not to participate. The same goes with "friends" having those horrible home "parties" that try to sell you stuff. I cite my personal policy and decline. I don't like to waste my money and enrich the big companies that are operating in the background. I select my charities and donate accordingly.
It was just an example,... they are basically junk. Better off to just give them a cash donation and not support them pushing stuff most people( ok, all) shouldn't be eating anyway.
Hola, Agustin. Que tal? Excellent thoughts. I will share with you something that I've been noticing here ever since I arrived in the US a while ago. Just like you, I'm an immigrant, and having lived what some might call a life of deprivation or limitations due to the restrictive laws of immigration, I still cannot afford some big ticket items that others purchase on a daily basis. However, I can't complain because my minimalistic lifestyle (read: frugality) is simply a natural way that I'd live my life even if I had enough money to consume such items. I simply don't need them. I've also noticed that frugality is generally a very natural way of life that mostly immigrants either adopt or come here equipped with due to the limitations that they experienced in their countries of origin. I'm sure there are Americans born and raised here who end up living that way too, but in my case, I yet have to find one among those that I know whom I might call frugal. Most of them simply don't even realize the name of the game. Everything I'm writing here is more of a cultural observation on my part, and as such, I dare say frugality is a predominantly immigrant lifestyle. In your case, you must've caught that bug subconsciously from your grandma and your parents, which is great because it does make life so much easier and especially so much more meaningful. Living frugally allows you to enjoy each moment rather than live worrying that you've missed out on something again. Thanks for shedding light on what should be a natural instinct in each and every one of us.
My parents went through the Great Depression. I'm the youngest of their children, so I'm not a Boomer. But I learned some great tips on financial management, eg buy secondhand. You'll get what you want for a whole lot less. Take care of your stuff, and so on and so forth. Welcome, by the way!
@@danicegewiss862 Absolutely! I couldn't agree with you more. Financial management goes hand in hand with management of all sorts, be it time, self, etc. Just like you, I take care of my stuff, and even even recently I realized I still have a pair of some great quality shoes that I bought decades ago! My main worry, however, is that we've reached the point in time where the market has already slipped out of hand entirely, and all we are facing now is the AI-zation of life as we know it. The management that you and I apply in our lives is a human form while the current reality is a function of computerized efficiency, which completely ignores the human aspect of it all. I'm not sure how to deal with this challenge, and I'm worried that we're not equipped to deal with it as a civilization, either. P.S. Thank you! Nice to be welcomed here. It's also great to be here witnessing so many transformations.
@@beth3535 Yes! In my opinion, US society suffers greatly from a very badly understood individualism. There's much to be said about it, but truth of the matter is many people don't walk the walk even though some of them may talk the talk. Frugality itself is also bashed for being misunderstood as an extreme form of existence. We simply need healthy practices, including healthy relationships, and far less bloated egos. Too much inflammation out there.

I like the habit you explained more about is cut back on waste and not spend anything. Honestly, I have a shopping addiction and I have been drawn to frugal living I am into the concept of idea of cutting back what I don’t need, not only I’ll be saving money, yet I’ll be spending more time doing things that are already to available to me than purchasing something that will be a waste. The vision pro from Apple I hear will come out next year in 2024. There’s going to be a lot of hype and honestly I don’t plan on wasting any money on something I could be spending more time doing, and to be honest we have computers. So what’s the point of using the vision pro when you already have access to the internet? There’s so many things we humans can do is spend more time living intentionally, which intentional living is a thing, and do your hobbies and being present. This upcoming summer in 2023, I want to swim and live my life as usual everyday doing my hobbies, eat well, move around, and live my life, and also get good rest.
Austin, thank you for the “Girl Scout” cookie rant (I mean that in a good way)!! I laughed out loud at this!! Not to mention Dollar General sells 3 “taste almost the same at GS” cookies that are waayyy less $$ if you are frugal like me!! Great content Austin!!
I always agree with every single thing that you say, kudos to your channel. However, In Re the girl scout cookies, I don't mind helping them out and spending quite a lot more once a year on one box of cookies, I mean serious.
And one more thing, you say we can treat ourselves sometimes and I think once a year to help the girl scouts over one box of overpriced cookies is not a bad thing. And I personally think some of those flavors really are that good, comparing them to ready-made cookies in the grocery store, no comparison.
Frugal is good but never be stingy because at the end of your life you cannot take your money on your grave and somebody will take it without hardships.😭😭
You never get over the guilt. You just accept that you'll be perceived as a jerk for like 1 minute when you're leaving the grocery store from the "entrance" door making a B line to your car acting like you don't speak English, haha.
Buying Girl Scout cookies is not about the cookie. It’s about supporting the organization. It’s no different than supporting your local craft fair or farmers market. It all depends on what you value.

Awesome.
I ❤ your videos, They keep me motivated. I’ve changed my ways with wasteful spending and now I’m saving. Feels great! Thanks 👍🙂
Same. Having savings bring so much freedom.
That was some frugally good advice!
Gracias, Dan!
Amen. Girl Scout are so expensive. I don’t buy them anymore.
I'm with you on the GS cookies. Never have been a fan. These are all great habits. Thanks again for another amazing video!!
I agree with a lot of these points. What I like to follow is the trait of spending with purpose. It follows the same characteristics that were laid out. Treating treats as treats is a big one that I'm working on now.
I stay out of stores and don’t shop as a form of leisure. And when I get any grassy, material inklings I head to the library.
I have to work on all of those points! Nobody’s ever perfect. Thanks Augustin for giving me hope and the will to try.❤
You are an old soul, Sir. I really appreciate your content. Hopefully the universe will grant you millions of subscribers.
I was literally just thinking Austin is like an old soul
Decide how much you want to save first and take that out of your income first. Then live off of what is left no matter how hard that may be. You can do it!😉
Aha! Think of your future self! Best advice for me that I've been neglecting. Keeping that in mind will help me make wiser decisions. I'll keep that advice in my pocket, thank you very much.
OMG! Thank you for saying that about Girl Scout cookies! I’ve been saying that for a while now in my own private household 😂
Thank you for the video 😃
Excellent points!!! The girl scout cookie statement is so true and never talked about.
It is funny how much hype they get, but boy scout popcorn gets no hype.
@Austin Williams that's true too. I never thought about the popcorn.
The thing about not falling for the hype and making up your own mind about what you like is that this makes you interesting to other people. People will recognize that you are into something that is different from the norm.
Hola Agustín! Eso es correcto, el tiempo es oro. Que tengas lindo fin de semana
Yes. Need to cut the coffee and takeaway lunch
Good morning from Brazil! Amazing video. I really needed to watch this. 😊
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Love this channel so much
Thanks!
I’m up several hours before I leave for the day. It’s a great quiet time that I truly enjoy.
This is me! Wouldn’t want to live any other way.
I totally agree with you about the girl guide cookies.
I find your content so inspiring! Bom dia from Portugal!
I love it when you said I’ll be frugal when I’m in the ground 😂
Your videos give me kind of relaxation every single time you just me
I'm glad!
Excellent video!!
I get up an hour or more sometimes before I have to leave for work. I don't like being in a rush, because I'll inevitably forget something. I like to take my time to do this thoughtfully and quietly before the world is in my face.
Yes! Most things are hype!
Hola Augustin from Georgia ☕️great video 👍
Howdy, thanks!
Fantastic video! Thank you 😊
Thanks for watching!
Best video Austin! Love, get value for every 💵/£ you spend 🏴
Ola! Amigo, it's vlogtastic what you are doing.
Enjoying the frugality vibe.
Lots of good advice and wisdom.Thankyou!
Good content!!! Keep going
I spend money to save time and energy. Some would consider that I spend on luxuries. But inprioritize lawn maintence, house keeper, etc over stuff.
Value time over stuff, as a recent anime figure collector this resonates with me.
Thank you for the insights
Well said, Austin ! ⏳ ☕
Regarding Girls scout cookies, I think everyone realizes that they are over-priced. People buy them because they support a good cause.
They actually don’t. The Girl Scouts only gets like 1% of the sales… so just make a donation in cash to your local troop!!!
@@shannonwilliams1941 You have to be kidding me! Good to know. I'll make a donation instead!!!
It was just an example,... they are basically junk. Better off to just give them a cash donation and not support them pushing stuff most people( ok, all) shouldn't be eating anyway.
I like the visual cues in the video. 😊❤❤❤❤

Perhaps. But it’s the obsession of the mostly middle class people I know. And if they don’t practice it, they feel guilty.
Great video Augustine
You’re very animated and dramatic at first but I like it lol 😂and thanks for the great tips! ❤
Hello Austin
Frugal lifestyle all the way.
I agree 💯👍 with you.
No debts No credit cards. No interest Income at all.
I Save and invest in true money Gold bullions.
I own 3 Assets
Commercial Agricultural land
My house fully paid off. 1ST floor on Rent.
I have Active income Job for Emergency funds Monthly expensives as well
I buy everything Cash and only cash
Great video mr Williams!
Not buying Girl Scout cookies! Golden Oreos are better! Understand what you have!!! Love it and printing this saying in big bold letters. Thank you!
Oreos are 100x better!
Won't be frugal with a huge headstone like that. LOL
Good afternoon from Austria, Europe 😊
And from Romania too🤗
From Italy 👋
From Ireland
Good morning from Colorado! Big snow storm a few days ago here! Finally warming up and can go outside again!
Hola from US...Texas!!!!
Howdy partner!
I finally got over the guilt of saying no to the Girl Scouts. Took me 10 years, but I made it.
You never get over the guilt. You just accept that you'll be perceived as a jerk for like 1 minute when you're leaving the grocery store from the "entrance" door making a B line to your car acting like you don't speak English, haha.
@@ElAgustin
😂 true!
I like your take on the topic!
Great advice!
Thanks!
Stop making sense lol I agree with these points! I agree with these habits.
"Ain't it the truth?"
Buying Girl Scout cookies is not about the cookie. It’s about supporting the organization. It’s no different than supporting your local craft fair or farmers market. It all depends on what you value.
As a former Girl Scout leader, a very small amount of the money from the cookies goes to the Troop.
Great content,
