I went over to this video after watching the cut on Strong Heart where IU was talking about how during one of her Good Day stages, only one of her fans got into the venue and sang the cheers all by herself and IU promised that she'd become a singer that'd work to encourage her fans after that. i want to share this story just to register how much this song and iu in general means to me. so, for the longest time, the only korean artist i kept up with was shinee. i heard of iu beforehand of course, she's super big even in my country and jonghyun literally referred to her as one of his best friends, but i never really listened to her songs before. i'm shinee fan since 2015 and always thought i wouldn't fall for any other kpop artist because i was too lazy to get into them but then i watched iu's palette episode and she was just SO sweet. her voice, her kindness, her gentleness. when i heard dear name i was like wow, let me check that out! this year was one of the hardest ever. i lost my grandfather, i lost friends, i'm depressed and sick and inside my house most of the time because of the pandemic. i had so many anxiety attacks over nothing. and it's crazy to say this, because while i love music and do believe in the power of art, i always tried to avoid parasocial relationships with celebrities and being too dependent on random stuff to be okay and healthy but this song truly, truly saved my life. i had an anxiety attack so bad the other day i thought i would die. i couldn't breathe properly, i was alone and my chest was hurting. i laid on the ground trying to do breathing exercises. i got my phone to try to find meditation videos but this song started playing instead since i was playing it the night before. i laid there breathing and listening even though i couldn't understand a word. i listened to it 3 times and managed to breathe. when my mom got home i was sleeping on the floor with my headphones on. i listen to it often, as well as her other songs, and while i didn't have an episode as bad as that one since, it always comforts me. and that's how i became an uaena, too. thank you iu for indirectly saving my life! i own you a lot.

i want to share this story just to register how much this song and iu in general means to me. so, for the longest time, the only korean artist i kept up with was shinee. i heard of iu beforehand of course, she's super big even in my country and jonghyun literally referred to her as one of his best friends, but i never really listened to her songs before. i'm shinee fan since 2015 and always thought i wouldn't fall for any other kpop artist because i was too lazy to get into them but then i watched iu's palette episode and she was just SO sweet. her voice, her kindness, her gentleness. when i heard dear name i was like wow, let me check that out!
this year was one of the hardest ever. i lost my grandfather, i lost friends, i'm depressed and sick and inside my house most of the time because of the pandemic. i had so many anxiety attacks over nothing. and it's crazy to say this, because while i love music and do believe in the power of art, i always tried to avoid parasocial relationships with celebrities and being too dependent on random stuff to be okay and healthy but this song truly, truly saved my life. i had an anxiety attack so bad the other day i thought i would die. i couldn't breathe properly, i was alone and my chest was hurting. i laid on the ground trying to do breathing exercises. i got my phone to try to find meditation videos but this song started playing instead since i was playing it the night before. i laid there breathing and listening even though i couldn't understand a word. i listened to it 3 times and managed to breathe. when my mom got home i was sleeping on the floor with my headphones on. i listen to it often, as well as her other songs, and while i didn't have an episode as bad as that one since, it always comforts me. and that's how i became an uaena, too. thank you iu for indirectly saving my life! i own you a lot.

This song probably will be my favorite Korean song for the following years. It's hard for me to express my true feelings to the one I loved for most of the time. I like my friends, but I am scared they are not like me the way I do. So I always want to run away when my friends try to get closer to me. I hate to act like this. But it's me. Maybe my situation is not the one IU wants to represent in her beautiful lyrics. But the melody just let me have deeper thoughts related to how to love the one you wants to love. He bid farewell to natsume after a long chat and walked towards his fiance. the sun sank and millions of fireflies drifted towards the air, a single firefly flew towards the guy as if to confess her love as she disappeared into the night sky. basically she was a firefly youkai who could become a firefly, but once she does, she lives as a firefly for her entire life which means she sacrificed her immortality to say goodbye to him and will die in 2 months. yes, my storytelling skills are bad XD but damn, every episode just makes me cry

"Sending fireflies to your window" is the way IU wishing everyone to have a good sleep. Firelflies in this song is actually uaena (her fandom name) as the colour of firelfies is neon-yellow, the same colour as her official fandom colour. She said this during her gwangju concert.

The last line "I hope it is a good dream" makes me think she is wishing him a good life.
My interpretation is that the song is an expression of the feelings she'd had for her ex-bf when they were still together--kind of like she is saying "I loved you. Goodbye. Please take care". But, I mean, I might be wrong. Only IU knows the real truth.
