This morning I've received news that a dam wall broke and the water rushed straight through a little town about 45km from where I live.
This is what I saw when I arrived.
According to the rescue services, they were still looking for bodies that might have been taken away with the flood. A whole community is rocked by this. We are thinking about everyone during these difficult times.
Brilliant footage! 👌 Prayer goes out to all those affected!🙏💛
It is very sad to see everyone walking around and all their belongings are everywhere. In the bushes, under the bridges. There was a couch on the railway that also washed away. Lots of clothes from little kids. Can't imagine being asleep and then all of a sudden this happens.
@@ChristoffSmitThe people upstream who built houses inside the dried up river must of gotten hit very hard.
Without a doubt. It was difficult to film though, as the rain started coming down quite hard and the drone won't like that.
@tylerdurden3722 the animals and livestock was without shelter...thanks for SPCA and Hawk for their help
Let's pray for Riverlands❤❤
My personal opinion is that it was negligence somwhere ... the dam level should have been seriously managed to have prevented such a tragedy. COMRADE-BEE appointments ???
Ja nee jy praat die waarheid van hierdie BEE gemors.
My heart goes out to all the Riverlands residents.
Good day as a resident of chatsworth the dams were not maintained. Vandalism has been a big problem in the area and pumps have been vandalised. The dam has never been cleared of debris. And ofcourse now with all that water a disaster waiting to happen. Man made problems made worse by climate crisis.
Climate crisis? Repeating crap from globalist does not help
Very curious to hear more about the vandalism part please?
Climate crisis?
Dassenberg dam burst and flooded Riverlands..Dassenberg is the name of the farm which was leased by the Andrag family ...beautiful aerial view😊
Very interesting. Did not know it was/is the Andrag family.
Sorry, I took that info from a Cape Town website who reported on the issue. I will fix the title now quickly. Thank you for the info 😁
The railway line: is it the line to CT or north to Moorreesburg and Bitterfontein?
According to my knowledge, it is part of the line to Cape Town.
@@ChristoffSmit It looks like the section from Kalbaskraal to Saldanha. Given that the main line is cut at Worcester, CT is nearly cut off from the interior by rail.
@phillipcollins9290 the railway line is to Saldanha...serve Saldanha Steel shelters with coal..at Kalbaskraal on the east southeast of the N7 and Dieprivier...Kalbaskraal is the junction for Saldanha and Malmesbury to Bitterfontein north..
A challenging weekend lying ahead with the predicted rainfall that will have a further negative impact..
Exactly. Hopefully everyone has some family or friends where they can go for a bit.
SA must prepare better for floods. But you you can never predict where and when things will go wrong. Just stay alert when it rains a lot as the last few years after the droughts. Best of luck to all
This is true, but we are going backwards when it comes to being prepared and maintenance. The funds are being used for other "things".
If the 3rd dam wall bursts Chatsworth, riverlands are done for
I wasn't aware that there's a 3rd dam... I'll go have a look on Google Earth.
@@ChristoffSmityes there is a bigger one which is right in the back of riverlands and Chatsworth on a farm basically all three of them are located on the same farm
I've had a look on Google Earth. Hopefully that dam is safe, they can't have another flood like this one.
Now is the time to build the dam in Greton Overberg..to put our communities and residential areas out off harms way. For over 20 years they plan to build a dam in Greyton..time to build that dam in Overberg and also a lot off water get wasted back into the ocean. BUILT THE DAM IN GREYTON. Theewaterskloof
