Crossing the double yellow is a bad habit to get into. A guy on a FZ10 ran me off the road in a blind corner when he came into my lane on the Dragon. Even though I had to go off the road to avoid a head-on collision I was fortunate not to lay it down. Another time I was up there an STI hit an ambulance head-on because he crossed the double yellow. Ride within your limit. If you have to cross the yellow, you're riding out of your skill level.
Joseph Slater I’ve done it being lazy too so it’s not always riding over your head. But I would never do it in a blind corner. That’s risking others lives.
VegasDCrazy exactly, the faster you go, the more you’ll miss. And it’s not worth getting killed just because you wanted to go the speed of light. I used to ride my r1 on this road near me and all I would remember seeing was the corner arrows. I took my virago on it one day, and found several waterfalls, two lakes, and a cliff. I sold my r1 a year later because you’re only racing to the next stoplight.
Next time you are up this way hit the Devils triangle then shoot over to NC and hit route 80 the Devils whip and then make your way over to the 226A diamond back. Do full loop at the top of the mountain is blue Ridge parkway and a little town called little Switzerland the is a great place to eat up there
I knew I was going to see a bunch of double yellow comments. If you're not doing it in a blind corner and there is no oncoming traffic in sight it's actually not a big deal. Just don't pull a "yammie noob" and you'll be just fine.
You want an awesome little loop? Take Wears Valley Rd in Townsend, TN all the way up the mountain into Pigeon Forge. From there head Southeast on 441and go though Gatlinburg until you get out of town. When you see Little River Rd, strap your helmet tight and turn there and get ready for the absolute ride of your life. It’ll take you right back into Townsend, where you can take Wears Valley again if you’d like and spend some time enjoying Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. I’ve done that in a Polaris Slingshot and I gotta tell you, it’s breath taking. Can’t wait to go for my birthday soon
you really don't have any time to enjoy scenery, what there is other than trees and dropoffs. There are oodles of other roads with better scenery and less chance of imminent doom
I'm from Europe and I've been to the Dragon 4 times in the last 5 years :> Unfortunately only hauled ass with cars, hope to be able to get a rental bike someday!
Wish I hD MY '67 H-D 250 Sprint for this road. Only 25 HP but the finest handling bike I ever road. Basically the factory road racer but with the stock round head engine. Race engine got scattered at Daytona. Stock engine came from a crashed machine.... $400 from a neighborhood truck driver, in 1971... 6500 miles.. A metallic blue beauty... On tight twisty rural FLA roads, I had no trouble keeping up with my cousin on his Ducati 25 Diana Mk.II which we raced in AMA Sportsman 250s.. Dade City, Lakeland and PBIR.. Both bikes were fun at our Sebring and Daytona races.. Sold the Sprint to go to camera repair school....1976.. FORZA FERRARI J.C.
Seen a couple of your vids from Jennings and chose this as my first full 'lap' of the dragon to watch - thanks for uploading! I'm thinking of going in a couple weeks. A couple Q's: Any good places to stay? Any bad ones? I'll have a trailer (5x10) and can tent camp. Looks like the weather may clear for the week I'm on vaca. TIA!
Oh its you!!! i was the guy who went on March 21 with the 2021 MT09, I had the red Alpinestars suit on. I think you came up to me and asked what I was honking at or something (I give a little beep to cars that pull off so that was probably it) . That was a great day, MaxWrist was there and did a few runs.
I was a yamaha fan , but since I started watching your videos now im gonna buy the gsxr 600 like yours , I really like it , cool videos keep it going guys 👍🏻
what position do you have your foot pegs, and how tall are you? I was thinking of putting mine top and rear but not sure if it's better. good video btw
Ruts and cracks bit my ass good in 07 (gsxr 750). Last time i rode the tail. Looks like that problem is still there. Nice save! (Round 3 min mark). On '19 Fury now. I'll probably put off taking it for a lil bit longer.
Can a rider ride slow like around 20+mph ? slow, steady and safe? one need not go fast at all. But, would riding slow be blocking other riders behind assuming one rides on a weekday (not on a weekend). One strictly within his/her skill levels and type of motorcycle.
It certainly is but my advise is to please respect the Dragon! Please don't cross a double yellow line and watch your speed. It's a wonderful and beautiful roadway. Have fun!
would like to see from all the RUclips channels I watch to make a video talking about each motorcycle they have owned, a description, and a short review of what they liked and didn't like. What I want to know is in your opinion which you saw as being a positive experience and which you didn't with an emphasis on your age and thoughts at the time. For instance as a young guy found super sports great but as you got older found that your mind changed and now supermotos are what you like with explanations why. I haven't seen many people take the time to list this information and I'm really curious at what stages of life and motorcycle life did you buy what and why plus when did you change your mind and why?
I use to ride too. But most bikers on TOTD are asking for it. Honking at my group of cars bc we can't fly like yal. I just always end up leading and slowing down even more. Attempt to pass and possibly cause harm to my group, I block every time. Ride safe, not rude.
If you pass a few of the turn off with out getting off, that's a you problem. They are clearly marked and that is what they are for. If you are "blocking" and intentionally slowing down you're the asshole and driving recklessly. Simply pull over in a pull off and let others pass. Everyone will be safer and happier, no bikes on your tail and they can do what they came there for. Drive safe and not rude
I watched this again and just wanna try and help by saying start using your front brakes they should be your primary source for slowing down. Otherwise first time your in a panic situation your going to lock the rears and it’s not going to slow you down. I know a lot of this is engine braking being your not riding a fast pace but when you do brake In this video your using rear brakes. When you do start using fronts watch for turns with gravel and such being you don’t want to enter gravel with front brakes applied.
Plan early to get your reservations like Jan or Feb if you want to stay at the Deals Gap resort, or you might not get the week or weekend you want. The place has good food and the lodging isnt very expensive either. Youll have a great time I promise
You dont really change gear when the road only has speeds of 15-35 MPH. So 2nd gearing the full ride isn't uncommon. You must never done a track day before.
Duncan Blanchard i wouldn’t say he is Reving it too much. But it’s for engine braking in them turns. Tails corners have you going 20-35 mph at best. So 2nd gear or third is best on this road. I think the posted speed limit is like 35? With signed posted for 15 MPH turns. Anyone goin faster will get bit by the dragon. Of course straight always you can hit it but 5 sec’s later or less you are back to doing 20-35 mph because of so many turns. That’s why it’s pointless to shift.
Going to the dragon this year. No street Rossi style , but it’s on my list. If you get the local Moto Map with roads to ride I live on copperhead road. It’s got a lot of dragon type twisty turns plus one that’s almost 280degrees. It’s a little corkscrew . One other popular term here in the Appalachian mtns would be switchbacks. Seen many of them watching Max Wrist videos. Anyway . Next time your in East TN give a little notice. Will point you to some nice ride options besides the normal tourist runs. 👊🏼
Rev Head nice man. I live in Virginia. So tail isn’t that far away from me. We have this one road called “back of the dragon” that’s pretty nice road. But it doesn’t beat tail at all. Route 311 here is my fav road. It’s a race up a mountain then back down. I should make a video on it. I’m going to tail this summer after I sell my bike and get the s1krr.
crossing the yellow line equals thumb down. Big time. When you cross the yellow i feel you make the road straighter so why bother going to the curvy road? Its so dumb and dangerous crossing the yellow. Check out my run, only been riding 4 years and on an older bike with no rider aids. just saying
no reason to change gears, your using engine braking more then the brakes themselves. I never go above 3rd on my ninja 1000 and never above 2nd on my fatboy..

As one gets older one gets wiser
Just another take on this- dude rode bike. Dude enjoyed it. Dude didn't hurt himself or others. Yay dude!
Joseph Slater I’ve done it being lazy too so it’s not always riding over your head. But I would never do it in a blind corner. That’s risking others lives.

Met a subscriber on the tail last spring and he led this run down the dragon, thought it would be cool to share. 👍🏻
SALTxTHExWOUND wow what an amazing road 😍beautiful tarmac and 🔥twists 😍😍Adam 🇬🇧
Hope he wasnt riding as stupid, going up soon amd hate to see peiple does this risky shit.
Can't keep up? Its okay, stay back&stay safe.. dont go beyond ur level

I've wanted to go to the dragon since I was 18 and first heard about it. This week I'm finally going!!!
woohooooo!!! you'll have a blast! go early morning or late afternoon and it won't be as packed usually :)
Crazy fast! I'm one to enjoy the scenery as much as the ride. So looking forward to hitting this with the cuz'ns 2021.
you really don't have any time to enjoy scenery, what there is other than trees and dropoffs. There are oodles of other roads with better scenery and less chance of imminent doom
One of the best roads to ride! I only live a few hours from it. Been 3 or 4 times. Very dangerous road as well.
I'm from Europe and I've been to the Dragon 4 times in the last 5 years :> Unfortunately only hauled ass with cars, hope to be able to get a rental bike someday!
Joeri, look up Sportbikes4hire. It's local and they have many bikes to rent, but make sure to reserve ahead of time.

What a great road, can't wait to get back up there this spring! Looking forward to some duel-vlogs with you and your lady!

On the bucket list hopefully hitting the tail this year great vid!!
Any riding on a "Seven-Fifty" is always enjoyable.
Preciate the upload brother and ride safe

what position do you have your foot pegs, and how tall are you? I was thinking of putting mine top and rear but not sure if it's better. good video btw
Not only the crossing the yellow line, but driving halfway through the parking lot at the end with the left blinker on. Adrenaline, maybe.
Ruts and cracks bit my ass good in 07 (gsxr 750). Last time i rode the tail. Looks like that problem is still there. Nice save! (Round 3 min mark). On '19 Fury now. I'll probably put off taking it for a lil bit longer.
Papa Salt throwin it down..Hell ya love it. 🤘😬🤘
Never, never, never cross the double yellow line on the Dragon. Other than riding faster than your abilities, it's the worst thing you can do.
Overcast day is best. No tree shadows to mess with your vision.
Damn I am jealous of that road. Would be a pleasure to ride
In looking forward to going back to the Dragon this year with my new litre bike.

I need to do that ride some day. It looks like you going faster than what you are with that helmet cam. LOL Looks fun!!
Best vid I've seen in awhile.👌...ol lady was talking and I still don't have a clue what she said.✌✌!!
Where is this you are starting at? I am headed there later this year to tour the area. Great video, thanks for sharing!

Audio sounds very strange for me really choppy
Liam sels yeah sorry about that, this was on my old mic before I replaced it 😕
It's one of the ones I haven't ridden yet. Was that your dad ahead of you on the XSR?
Pops got balls of steel. Happy Australia Day Peeps 🇦🇺
Looks awesome. Any recommendations for riding the Tail?
Don't Chase anyone look far ahead and don't ride over your ability
Stay on your side of the yellow line there are a lot of head on crashes go during the week instead of the weekend less traffic

Shame about the audio, decent road to have a play on though, were you waiting for people to catch you up ?
I heard there was a tree with motorcycles parts in a certain curve. Where a bunch of people have wiped out and they just add a part to the tree?
Rufio 87 at 15:50 you can see that exact tree 👍🏻
SALTxTHExWOUND hell yeah! Glad y'all made it down safe. Did you get that knee down!?
Tree of shame! Its at Deals Gap at the motorcycle resort. Super fun, at night they race minibikes in the parkinglot :D
We're going to be at the dragon March 30th
Great, now I wanna go back like now! Fun ride for sure!

hey man just google Deals Gap. Its south east of knoxville tennessee on the north carolina side of the state line.
Gerald Burmeister thanks I live in California but meaby next year I go I need to plan the trip the place looks awesome thanks again

Your bike got a miss in it?
Let me know when you get it out of first gear.
I honestly thought it was at least 3rd. Does he ever change it?
If you’re afraid of heights, THIS IS NOT THE RIDE FOR YOU.#disclaimer
My husband wants us to ride the tail .....don't think I can do it... not a fan of heights.
Morgan, the trees will break your fall :)
Why don’t you change gear. Very strange way to ride. Love that colour scheme.
You dont really change gear when the road only has speeds of 15-35 MPH. So 2nd gearing the full ride isn't uncommon. You must never done a track day before.
