Io non ho mai sentito un tipo di "fusion" che mi entusiasmi come questi brani del gigantesco Miles mischiato alla fantasia di Marcus ed alla incredibile chitarra di Stern. Questo è il gruppo dei miei sogni.......
First time I saw Miles was at 42nd st Pier on the West Side of NYC in July of 1982. Beautiful summer evening. Same band as this, similar set list. They played for an hour and a half.. They were AWESOME!!!
What a great post! I saw this BAND of masters at the Hollywood Bowl "Miles Davis Day' in Los Angeles. It was a life-changing experience for a 21-year-old musician. Stern & Evans had just debuted on the scene via the release of 'Man with the Horn' marking Miles' return to public life. A great piece of history to re-live here. Miles' magic sprinkled all over the jazz world with his return. DIG IT!
Yea, and Marcus Miller (probably one of the most accomplished bassist since Jaco) , was 22 years old at the time. He was a part of the Band of masters. Miller ended up producing albums for Miles, Sandborn, Luther Vandross, Shorter and more.
nice start with bill evans flute, i love Miles Experience, All !! It is the clearest example of the transformation / EVOLUTION of music, improvised, throughout the 20th century
I'm loving how Marcus Miller is 'not playing' on the intro to this performance. Like a sea monster cruising just beneath the surface, waiting to strike...

I had not seen this band perform, I saw Miles at Hollywood Bowl with Robben Ford and Bob Berg Al Foster. Once with Reggie Lucus, Bennie Maupin, Carlos Garrnet, Khalil Balakrishna, Badal Roy, Al Foster, Michael Henderson and Mtume. at Stanford University, 72' First time hearing Bill Evans play flute!
I saw this band with Darryl Jones, when Scofield joined, so he and Stern were both playing. Stern stood like a statue all night. Next time I saw them Stern had left.
I’m by no means a Stern aficionado, but have been a casual listener for 25 years, and been aware of him for over 30. It’s interesting to see him playing that CBS strat.
@Jean Luc. Good eye. How can you identify that it is a CBS strat? The "C" stands for California", correct? I'm wondering because I have one. Is it because the truss adjustment is at the heel? Or some other identifying feature?
Hey Lucio, We love this video! Is there anyway I could get in contact with the owner? A team and I are working on a Corona Virus project that features this artist, and we could really use your help! If you dropped an email to contact you, that would be great. Thanks!
Miles was coming out of retirement and put together this band. The best thing to come out of it was Marcus, who went on to write and produce for Miles. Miles hadn't got his chops all the way back during this period.

Miles really pushed Stern and made him such a good player. He no longer seems to have these chops. Very refreshing to hear him playing like this! Th London gig based on this tour is worth a watch. The whole band was smoking and helped Miles who was very ill and weak at the time!
Check out some of the live stuff Stern did with Michael Brecker in the late 80's. I saw that band twice and I think that's when Stern was at his peak. Their version "Upside/Downside" is awesome.
He has permanent nerve damage in his right hand from a fall he took a few years back that shattered both of his arms. He actually uses wig glue to keep from dropping the pick, it’s pretty incredible he’s still playing at such a high level.
are you a clown? of course he doesn't play like he did when he was this age! He's 70 years old now! and has suffered a serious injury. You would know that/take that into account if you were a true fan but, obviously, you are just another internet troll. What was your point again?
@Justus Bacon I understand this, his sound is that unique that you have to love it, or you just don‘t like it at all... For me it‘s one of my favourite sounds, because with the chorus he wants to sound as wide as possible, with a warm-horn-like-sound... and for me the thing is, that if i hear that sound for only one second, i know that could only be Mike Stern playing... So i think he is one of the players wo have really created his own voice with his effects :-)
@joesl8 if enough people tell you you're great you start to believe it I personally like it but I respect your right to have an opinion On the for real side, I've heard better from Miles If the whole set is "out" it ruins your perspective of what "in" is
So there two Bill Evans’!?! Or is that THE Bill Evans? I was very impressed with what mike Steen was doing there, I almost thought it was Miles on the trumpet. Truthfully though, actually I DID think it was Miles, for like two seconds... lol
Well damn... I also hate getting extremely into something and right when the bass player start jamming, it cuts off!!! Smgdh... what is wrong with you people!?!

Mike Stern ... knocking out those lines like a machine ....

I saw Stern in about 2002 and he was the coolest dude ever!
Miles is like the fusion Count Basie on Rhodes. The fewest possible notes having the greatest impact musically
I literally just came of a Mike Stern concert here in Cali (Colombia), just a few hours ago, at Ajazzgo Festival, it was just mind blowing!
liar. he did not play a show that night. he had a fever and severe diarrhea.
@@dd61125 ¿What?
Счастливчик 👍
Imagine Bill Evans, the pianist, getting into fusion. Man.
Hard to imagine, given that he had no interest in it.
He did dabble in the electric keyboard but it didn’t hold his interest.
@@collegecarcompany1 Yeah, he played some Fender Rhodes, but what he played on it was not "fusion."
He did make one album, "Living Time" with George Russell Orchestra that's kind of fits that bill.
At the start it comes up as Bill Evans on sax and flute, so not the pianist Bill Evans ....

Mike STERN,le GOAT... après Jimmy!
Mike is getting a very full and rounded sound from his Strat here. Were the pickups regular single coils ?
start around 5:00.
Yup. Got stolen later.
Neckpickup, maybe roll the Tone back on the guitar a few notches, and Bright Switch off on the Fender Twin amp.
those silverface twins sound like crap... hopefully they are backline.. playing is awesome though.
@Martin Turner . Mike goes over his pedals on a "Rig Rundown" on Premier Guitar RUclips channel.
