    Found this video searching for information for black iron pipe for natural gas installation in a residential home. I was always confused as Home Depot here in the States sells both Black "Iron" and Black "Steel" fittings and I never knew if you could mix the 2. Never realized Black "Iron" is not really iron and is really steel. Glad I found this video - even 4 years after it was uploaded! Thanks for the information!

    Old school iron ! Boss white and hemp ! Can't go wrong ! We use it on all propper commercial heating systems/ steam /gas in schools hospitals you name it here in the UK ! Last a lifetime and 100 times better than any mappress installation ! Takes longer to install but much better job

    I do both pipe sealant and Teflon tap?

    • @GreggDistributorsLP
      @GreggDistributorsLP  Год назад +1

      Adding pipe sealant with tape allows for added protection from leaks. Pipe sealant will fill any of the gaps that were missed by the tape. Check out our selection of Pipe Sealant here greggdistributors.ca/adhesives-sealants-and-tape/Thread-and-Gasket-Sealants/Pipe-Sealant?resp_group=Default,Variations,ItemProperties

    What is the best way to enlarge the opening in an 1 1/2 in Tee (black iron fitting)?

    • @GreggDistributorsLP
      @GreggDistributorsLP  2 года назад +1

      As far as we are aware, there is no way to stretch/flare a threaded Schedule 40 black pipe nipple. What you would need to do is to utilize either a bushing or a reducer, you would just need to determine if you want female or male thread. If you want to see the range of products we have available, you can see it here:

    I prefer Pipe dope, over tape any day, I wear cut resistant skin tight rubber gloves, because yellow pipe dope is hella messy and once on your hands then you touch dirt, then you have black hands for the next day or two haha. The tape is a total pain in the rear especially in tight areas, you get it wrapped backwards and DO OVER! Hahaha. I wear super tight black gloves, just in case a pipe has a nasty burr, I've been cut pretty bad before on pipe thread, aslo the yellow pipe dope gets all over the gloves, I just throw them away and put on new, I have an entire box in my truck.

      Adjust your die every so slightly down and re cut and re thread pipe again and dial it down to 2 1/2 hand turns

      Apply more force. Pipe threads are meant to take quite a bit of torque to seal properly. The threads will deform ever so slightly and that is normal.

    I never use tape on its own, i always use pipe dope with it.

    In America I believe the¹y use iron pipe or forge steel pipe. If the pipe is rusting internally as water is passing through is there anything you can use to stop this.
