Very cool vid! I'd never tested those before, either. You're right about the probable reason for their disappearance. Great to see OG again, too! I think those would actually work well at home self-defense distances...hunting, not so much. Great to see the band back together, thanks for stopping by OG! Rounds are pretty neat. Probably pot metal or some cheap aluminum alloy but with the way they're oxidized it makes me think of zinc which looks just like that when exposed to air for any period of time. Btw dicast is the molding process of using metal dies to form a cavity which is then injected with whatever media you wish to mold the part from. This is in contrast to other forms of molding which would use wax (lost wax), or sand to form the parts. So if I had to guess I'd say it's a nice zinc alloy or even just all zinc as it can be perfect for this kind of thing and I'm surprised more manufacturers haven't experimented with it on nondeformable rounds.....but it IS light so, maybe there's that. Thanks again for a great video!! btw, OG, is the Springfield 1861 muzzle loading, rifled musket just a musket or a rifle? :P We call arms "rifles" because of "rifling". Cannons are guns or rifles right?
Excellent video as always guys. I travel around the country for my job and purchased a couple boxes of these shells up in Michigan years ago. Hey Jeff, great content as always! I’ve been consistently leaving comments on OG’s channel that he really needs to do a review of Klein brand tin snips/scissors. I mean, these things are the ultimate EDC, survival, and prep tool. Seriously, if there’s ever been a more versatile tool, I haven’t seen it. Let’s break it down: OG is always busting out his knife for everything from prying mags apart to cutting through tape, but these snips would be perfect for that kind of thing and way safer. You could disarm a bomb with these things, cutting wiring with surgical precision (well, maybe… depends on the bomb, I guess!). Heck, in a pinch, they could slice through a paracord, trim small branches for shelter building, or even cut makeshift gun cleaning patches on the fly. And don't even get me started on cutting through duct tape, heavy plastic, or crafting some MacGyver-level makeshift gear! For those in more extreme survival situations, these things can slice through leather straps, break zip ties, and could even double as a weapon if things really go sideways-imagine them as a sneaky little pair of brass knuckles. I’ve also used mine to wedge doors open, cut fire starters out of old cloth, and trim up gear that’s fraying in the field. For those of us into gardening, they’re amazing for pruning and harvesting-no more delicate little scissors for that! I know OG thinks they’re ‘girly scissors,’ but let’s be real-there’s nothing girly about a tool that could help you survive the apocalypse, disarm a bomb, or craft a tent out of nothing but duct tape and branches! Maybe you could talk some sense into him, Jeff? I swear, once he gets his hands on these, he’s never going back to a regular knife again! And, yeah, OG, you definitely missed all those shots-don’t blame the ammo! 😂
