USD is the default transactions for over 70% of trade and 90% of exchange. It is also the best valued aspect to exchange for anything (except gold, it's best to keep your asset in gold bars but if you must sell it, do it in USD). This all because it is the top widely used, valued. Common and stable of all currency. Some are valued more, some are more stable, some are used more, but when comparing all 3 things, USD is best. English, USD, Metric, and common sense are the 4 international things of the world.
American Money has such an iconic design but I just want more consistency between denominations. The updates are welcome and they need to change $1 to match. But I would personally love a pocket full of Jobs! 🤓
DetroitBORG Yes, Iconically boring... Redesigning the American dollar would also be useful as whenever I step across the border, I don't have to sift through my wallet, drying to determine which bill is which!
Kevin Moynihan That's an issue for people who don't have great eyesight or are blind - having differently coloured and sized notes would also help with accessibility
Its more of looking at your wallet and getting the right bill out without having to looks at the number on the bill it self. US bills are very hard to handle at low light places like bars and clubs without looking very closely at it. But then again I think the US bill has been the same and so ubiquitous around the world for so long that it seems unreasonable to make a jarring shift.I like the new bills especially the 10 dollar one it has a slight tint which makes it easier to spot, if they only did that with the 5 or 20 it would have made life so much more easier.
I like the idea of the vertical bills, but one really weird thing I would say Create on overall design and guidelines, and establish state mints that are allowed to put who their state wants on the currency? Kinda like Quarters but for the bills. All the bills are federally recognized tender, they just have different people on them. Like you have a Texas one dollar bill and you have like Sam Houston on it. But you get a Californian one dollar bill and its a depiction of prospectors during the gold rush and in North Dakota it could be Sitting Bull of course this money would soon spread out of state but imagine just being like "I have a one dollar bill from Texas" when you live in New York.
Andrue Klements All fun and jokes until Mississippi puts a Confederate figure, and everyone goes nuts. Honestly, Im fine with plates being specific of each state, but money is generated by the federal government and should have a unified national design

Naveed Naqvi your frofile picture fits so well with your comment lol Edit: also if you don’t have any dollar bills or anything and you only have a 20 dollar bill then you would use that and get your change back
I like that style best also. I feel like the only legit reason to change would be to make the bills different sizes so blind people can more easily use them.
No, I love U.S currency just how it is. If anything they should go back to the 80's to mid 90's designs. Conservative, yet extremely intricate at the same time.
I like the mainly green money tbh...it's interesting that some people associate it with being extravagant since it's like the most middle of the road of any of these designs lol
We definitely NEED more color. It's frustrating enough to have to shift through a wad of bills to find the denomination I'm looking for because they're all green. It would be much easier if each denomination had its own distinct color. I like the way the Mexican Peso does it. Not only is each denomination a different color, but also a different size.
I think the way the new 100$ bills look is a step in the right direction, especially with the blue holograph strip, and orange ink well. If they could make the rest of the bills follow suit in that regards, and introduce new faces to the bills, that would be a good start.
you literally just got your wish, they're replacing jackson with Harriet Tubman, adding stuff to do with black and women's rights and adding new security features!
How about dropping politicians completely, and use a mix of famous people from the arts and sciences on one side, and a historic building or site on the other side.
I like the 1st and 3rd redesigns, I like the colorful style living up to the original designs, and I also like the fact of other people being on the bills. But perhaps the other people would be limited run bills that are only printed once annually or every 2 years
The problem with vertical notes from a use perspective is that most wallets and purses are horizontal so when you pull a vertical note out you won’t see the number.
I think it would be cool to revamp the design, although i would like to keep the same shape. that’s pretty much it. i think adding something like braille to the bills would be pretty neat.
To make american money more american they could just put pictures of corn dogs, hamburgers, football related things, and automobiles. Or they could just leave it the same.
I like American currency as it is, but the first really appeals to me. It captures the original concept of the bills, with some color, they look amazing
Couple of facts here,... 1.) In order for a person to be featured on any sort of american currency, the person has to be dead. 2.) Featuring our culture would be a very bad idea because the american culture is always changing and is vastly diffferent from region to region. 3.) A woman was purposed to be on our $20 (harriet tubman) and the public widely hated that idea. I personally believe the american money does in fact need to be changed, but not in the ways you described. American paper currency is instantly recognizable and thats a good thing because almost the entire world uses it and it should stay that way.
Didn't even touch on the fact that American money is among the easiest to counterfeit as a result of it's obsolescence. The plastic/colourful money we now use is not only about design.
I like that in the new norwegian currency there are no people featured. We have a lighthouse, viking ship, fish, sailing boat and the sea. The thing that could have made them better would be to use historic norwegian sites and take use of both sides of the bills
Either keep it the same or change it to the design at 2:58 but change up the people. MLKJ would be amazing instead of President Jackson but Steve Jobs?

I like when the bill sizes reflect their value. Like a 5 currency bill is smaller than a 10, that is smaller than a 50 and so on. That's how the EUR, CAD, NZD, AUD, NOK, CHF and the beloved SEK works. In contrast to the USD that uses the same size for all bills. That in conjunction with different colours makes it very easy to pick the right paper/plastic rectangle out of your wallet.
Yeah they have to make it out of plastic, ditch the $1 and $2 dollar note and make them coins, obviously ditch the penny and put a feature for the blind or partially sighted so they can easily tell which they have cause I’ve heard stories of a blind person being scammed out of money like someone gives them a 1 says “70 dollars in change”
I HATE that. When I was living in Europe, it was always such a damn hassle. It may sound nice in theory, but not in execution. Because the larger bills have to be very large, you cannot have a reasonably sized wallet.
British money still have the queen on and sometimes other people too. Also a good thing to have on money is iconic buildings to that country. E.g. the British £5 note has big Ben in the corner in gold surrounded by a translucence material that makes it look cool.
I like the style of the US bills, as I love the Victorian Era style as a whole. Although there should be different colors for different denominations, and replace Andrew Jackson with Theodore Roosevelt.
I personally dispise the new designs, classic is always the best. Green and Black on white: perfection Keep our American bills American and not international! 🇺🇸
@wagner1va it's American currency, why should the world have input on what dollars should look like. Imagine if ppl started saying your house should look a certain way even though you like the way it looks.
As a British person I think American money should be redesigned to have the queen on one of the sides. That’d be fun, just imagine the reactions of that actually somehow happened.
Speaking as a designer myself... one major problem I think a lot of people didn't consider when creating these designs, they're a LOT easier to counterfeit than our current bills. Few or none of the bills from what I could see incorporated any security elements to make it harder for them to be copied, which American bills now have in droves. Even the "dated" style (which I should give a minor correction is copper etching rather than woodblock) was done because creating new plates was difficult and even up into an era with photocopiers and scanners was difficult to duplicate accurately. Also I'm not sure that any major changes would go over well as too many American people tend to complain that any time our currencies start to stray from the classic designs that they say our money looks like "Monopoly money" or basically like it all looks more like it belongs as a piece in a board game than as legal tender, so any changes would have to be gradual over time so people can get used to how the new money looks before taking it a step further. The one thing I DO like, however, was the set of bills that varied in size based off denomination as that's something that would be a massive improvement for the seeing impaired, and something we currently do not do as all paper money is the same size.
I very much like the aesthetics of the first set, the "full color" ones. However I'd do a bit of mixing with the people and back art; I like the idea of each bill having a theme that together express Americana. $1 "The Republic" / "Founding" Front: George Washington Rear: Signing of Declaration of Independence $2 "Discontinued" $5 "Equality" Front: Abraham Lincoln Rear: Looking past MLK from behind; massive crowd in DC listening to his speech $10 "Nature" Front: Teddy Roosevelt (or Sacagawea) Rear: Bison at Yellowstone Park, bald eagle in foreground $20 "Prosperity" Front: JFK Rear: A family picnic, 1959 Cadillac convertible in background, reminiscent of Rockwell painting $50 "Remembrance" Front: US Army uniform saluting; the wearer is gone (or Eisenhower) Rear: Collage; Iwo Jima, 9/11, Arlington cemetery $100 "Innovation" Front: Nikola Tesla Rear: Astronauts on the Moon (flag, lander, Earth in view) $1,000 "For Bankers Only" Front: Alexander Hamilton Rear: Federal Reserve building Edit: I honestly wrote these before looking too closely at the actual set of bill art and I'm happy to see the similarities. I'm personally a fan of Jefferson but omitted him because of the slavery connection; I'd happily accept the Jefferson/Freedom motif in place of my JFK/Prosperity one, which is kind of weak. I definitely prefer my version of the $100 though, although Ben Franklin instead of Tesla is fine. Edit 2: JJ omitted Burczyk's $50 bill, which features Edison and the moon landing. Good Lord.
The American dollar notes are very unique. If they show money in cartoons, movies, et cetera you always see these green banknotes appear. But maybe modernize these notes isn't a bad idea. Give these notes a clear color and put some securety features in it. You also need to get rid of the 1 and 2 dollar notes, just make 1 and 2 dollar coins like the Euro, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, pound, frank et cetera.
When I heard about that project at first I thought that the most popular selections were going to go off the walls crazy for no particular reason. However as a very conservative leaning American many of the bills from that gallery and the ones you showed today made me happy. Not only because the bills look nice but because it shows there are still a lot of people out there who seem to understand what kind of themes and imagery are traditionally important in America. That is something I would not want to lose on our money.

I think our current bills are great. Late 19th and early 20th century bills were the most beautiful and actually featured some nice color (see the 1901 $10 Bison note).
Add more anti-counterfeiting measures but keep the overall look.

Why, exactly, should the American dollar look "international"?
Well, it is our currency, but since it became the de facto world currency other countries think they are entitled to their design.
Vosian A fun fact is that there are a few non-American countries that use the US dollar!
J.J. McCullough no offense bjt were
🇺🇸AMERICAN🇺🇸 our money is very close to our hearts(full of freedom)
... and not a few black market economies world wide.
I never got this “It’s so hard to tell which bill is which in America” Thingfrom foreigners. It’s not that hard you just have to look at the numbers
I really hate the idea of there being people like steve jobs on the money. He isnt a president and i feel our money should focus on them.
But then again I think the US bill has been the same and so ubiquitous around the world for so long that it seems unreasonable to make a jarring shift.I like the new bills especially the 10 dollar one it has a slight tint which makes it easier to spot, if they only did that with the 5 or 20 it would have made life so much more easier.
a concept: don’t “fix” what’s not broken
true
I like the idea of the vertical bills, but one really weird thing I would say
Create on overall design and guidelines, and establish state mints that are allowed to put who their state wants on the currency?
Kinda like Quarters but for the bills. All the bills are federally recognized tender, they just have different people on them.
Like you have a Texas one dollar bill and you have like Sam Houston on it.
But you get a Californian one dollar bill and its a depiction of prospectors during the gold rush
and in North Dakota it could be Sitting Bull
of course this money would soon spread out of state but imagine just being like "I have a one dollar bill from Texas" when you live in New York.
Andrew Clements so kinda like quarters?

The USA money is an iconic design. I think it’s perfect the way it is.
It could be better. For instance, different denominations should be different sizes to help visually impaired people tell how much they have.
@@ourgreatsociety4965 a different texture but same design might be better because if a bill was folded it would be harder to tell. I mean they have different textures now but they feel really close to eachother

As an American, I love the first one. Very traditional and colorful.
I think the way the new 100$ bills look is a step in the right direction, especially with the blue holograph strip, and orange ink well. If they could make the rest of the bills follow suit in that regards, and introduce new faces to the bills, that would be a good start.

The first redesign looks amazing
I think it would be cool to revamp the design, although i would like to keep the same shape. that’s pretty much it. i think adding something like braille to the bills would be pretty neat.
To make american money more american they could just put pictures of corn dogs, hamburgers, football related things, and automobiles.
Or they could just leave it the same.
Nice opinion, _ XxCOOLANDHIPxX _.
All it takes is to hold the bill up to light or use one of those 10 cent pens on it.

Jackson was a cool guy and was actually apart of the American Government. Put MLK on a $3 bill.
Iago of Draig Gwyn Andrew Jackson was also responsible for thousands of deaths of native americans. He forced native Americans out of there land which was consider indian territory. He was also apparently a murder that participated in dueling.

@@boxsterman77 You must've had a very very small vallet.

WOW that vertical bill that looks like a brochure looks very cool NGL. It's so cool i swear.
Here in the United States a person can’t be on currency if they’re still alive you can look that up
Why not a theme of American mythology? Or land marks? What about simple symbolism with eagles, buffaloes and turkeys?
Just keep the current designs but upgrade to polymer. That's all they'd need to do.
I really dig that vertical design idea
I very much like the aesthetics of the first set, the "full color" ones. However I'd do a bit of mixing with the people and back art; I like the idea of each bill having a theme that together express Americana.

Personally I think that American money looks the most respectable. I find that fitting for the world's main currency.
