They were the pairs equivalent to Toller Cranston and the judges despised them for it. Had Scott Hamilton stuck up for them, (he was on his comeback attempt with half the stars of the 70s and 80s that year, and wasn't in the booth,) like he did for Sele and Pelltier, the Russian Mafia riggings would have been stopped a decade sooner.
I don't think they ever got enough credit for either the quality or variety of their pair elements. They did totally different lifts, death spirals, pair spins and side-by-side spins, every other team was guilty of some degree of copy/pasting elements. The triple lateral twist, forward outside death spiral, and one-handed star lift are all still pretty rare to this day.
Jean-Luc Brassard wasn't Isabelle's special someone for long (or was it just a PR thing?) since she ended up marrying American pair skater, Rocky Marval.
Believe me, the Canadian press discussed little else during that competition. It became a running joke after a while because they harped on it constantly. Only Elvis Stojko's ankle injury got more press attention that year.
@@GetBenched2010 i think it was Eisler saying "who gives a shit" not sure why that offended me then, maybe i used to respect the Olympics more. watching it now, i kinda admire it and wish athletes would speak their minds more. it's also impossible to respect the Olympics anymore especially around figure skating
They must have been so disappointed when the pros like G&G and Dmitriev and Mishkotenok were allowed to compete They had probably thought that this was their year to win.
Music is nice but Lloyd is so hulking and slow and annoying I can't fully enjoy it. I think it should've been Mishkutionok & Dmitriev first, G & G second and Shiskova & Naumov third.
They look so pedestrian and clunky next to the two Russian pairs, and the Canadian judge ranked them first(!) Holy crap. I hope the Canadian judge got called out by the Referee to explain their first placement for this pair.
They even tried to gaslight Canadian viewers into believing Sele & Pelletier didn't deserve to win gold and went out of their way to dream up excuses on the fly to justify what happened. It took the American media, (Scott Hamilton in particular,) to call out the clear and present rigging of the event. Our media sucks.
Didn't care for this short program. They had better short programs in previous years. This one ddn't showcase any personality or entertainment. I found it dull, slow and boring.
7:00 That look of extreme dread at the thought of having to deal with Rod Black. Don't worry Isabelle, we CFL fans feel your pain.

Best olympic pairs competition ever!!!
Llyod was the first hulk of pairs figure skating. He was so rugged and manly and a dare-devil. He had really good looks and an incredible body.
Their entire style hinged on his ability to toss Isabelle around like a stuffed animal, he HAD to be built like a football player to do that.
And a really good hairpiece too. Seriously, if you hadn't seen him before 1993 you wouldn't have known.
Jean-Luc Brassard wasn't Isabelle's special someone for long (or was it just a PR thing?) since she ended up marrying American pair skater, Rocky Marval.
the funny thing is their relationship wasn't really hyped that much in the Canadian media. Certainly not as much as others over the years.
Whoa, they skated well, but a judge placed them ahead of Gordeeva and Grinkov? In terms of speed and finesse they weren't even in the same class.
G&G skated very pedestrian programs, especially compared to 1992.
@gingerclove It will probably not make any difference to you, but just for the record, Isabelle had cracked ribs during those olympics..

did he really say that on National tv on the Olympic stage? @7:50 what a class act:)
What was wrong with that? Elite athletes play through the pain, especially when it's their last chance at something.

@@adamfirebear they both skated through similar injuries, they'd been there before.
ke altezze!

They were robbed in 1992 AND 1994. Typical of the Russian block judges. They tried to pull the same crap on Sele and Pelletier too.
wow lloyd had so much hair back then lol
"Hair."

That was pretty tame stuff compared to how frequently the Russian mafia openly rigged this event.
Why wouldn't the Canadian commentators root for the Canadian athletes, They do it cos they're , oh, I don't know - Canadian maybe.
