To answer your question, I am Gen Z and I never once had my phone taken away. My parents didn't let me have a smartphone until middle school, but my flip phone in elementary school was never taken away either. I remember times in like 7th and 8th grade I was texting my friends about assignments and when they missed a class about what they missed. If my phone got taken I wouldn't have done as well in school without their help.
as a gen z (though an older one, 2001 baby) I've had a smartphone since 7th grade and not once did my parents ever threatened to take my phone away, and thinking about it I don't think they ever took away any of my electronics, tbh I don't think they ever really gave me punishments pass like 6th grade most I ever got was a stern conversation
So, to answer your question (as a mom of 4 kids- 3 of whom have phones), 90% of the time even when they're in trouble... they get to keep their phones.... It's just easier...
As a gen z born in 2001, I got my phone taken away and all of my electronics "I had like 3 phones but they were older phones I kept when I'd get phone upgrades lol". My mum has always been strict with me and still is at 23 years old. Granted I've always been her least favorite or the black sheep because of being the more "difficult" one of the family. Even thought I strived for years to be a people pleaser my whole life I still got in trouble or ganged up on the most.
9:01 yes indeed we still do get are phones taken, it’s just that Charles parents are to concerned in them not seeing each other they completely over looked the fact they can FaceTime, either that or it’s just their boomer showing
I love the introduction of James in the series. He’s so precious! Shipping him and Isaac in an Aroace way. P.S. A friend of the actor who plays James was a big fan of the graphic novels.
As an older gen Z, I went through having my phone taken away, but then it became a requirement for me to keep it on me. So having your phone taken away isn’t much of a thing anymore to my knowledge (California citizen btw, idk about other parts of the country)
Regarding Charlie’s grades slipping (and Nick doing surprisingly well) it’s because Charlie is so self sacrificing and is determined to protect and support Nick as he slowly, and with difficulty, comes out and also Nick is a year older and is facing difficult and important exams and he’s not a very good student… remember on S1E1 Charlie was able to do Nick’s maths homework better than he can, and Charlie’s a year behind Nick. Sure, he’s probably also boy crazy to a degree, but I think his parents are wrong for assuming that’s the only reason Charlie is slacking off academicly. Charlie needs to learn that in order to support Nick, he has to support himself first
Personally, no my phone did not get taken away when I was in trouble. Not since maybe elementary school. Instead it was like Charlie and my outings were threatened.
i definitely got my phone taken away in like middle school (it was an ipod but ya know) but by sophomore year it would be that i couldn’t leave the house, mostly bc i would use my phone for school also
I’m gen z and never got my phone taken lol my mom did once and realized she was gonna have to wake me up for school the next day and gave it back never been grounded either
in my opinion, Nick could’ve told imaging about that and I would’ve had no problem because when it’s a matter of my friends safety and mental health , I don’t really think not outing him to one person tops that. Plus Nick knows that Imogene is not one to go spread hateful things about ben. - a gay
I like how heated I get over just seeing Ben and David, they make me livid. Also, I totally agree about Charlie’s mom being homophobic. It not obvious abuse. But it is also very clear Charlie doesn’t feel that comfortable around his mom. His dad we like though.
Ben is bi, but he's still garbage. And it feels like he's just dating Imogen to taunt Nick. But that poor girl needs to date somebody who didn't have a crush on Charlie first.
Was just coming here to say this (about Ben being both bi and garbage). Poor Imogen -- she deserves better (not the bi part, but the total garbage boyfriend part).
ok so im pretty sure ben is bi but he might be gay but im pretty sure hes bi because he had a line where it was like "so im not allowed to like boys and girls" but i could be making that up. also ive had my phone taken away (as gen z) but the my parents told me i needed to have it with me when i left the house so my phone could still get taken away but i would have to grab it before school.
I do not see the big deal about the temporary ban of Nick and Charlie hanging out together. Any parent would do the same thing. Until his grades are up, he can be with Nick as long as he wants. I thought this would be a big motivator to stop procrastinating and that is coming from me: a big procrastinator. Ben is the f’ing worst and had no right to compare Nick with himself. Imogen definitely deserves better this season. I forgot what else I wanted to say about these two episodes.
I think (I'm not saying this is what other people are thinking) that problem is that his parents need to look more closely at him. Nick is also spending just as much time with Charlie and still doing great in school. It's not a Nick-and-Charllie problem, it's something going on with Charlie. And instead of immediately assuming, they should try to reach out to Charlie and see what is actually going on. In general, they could be more supportive of their children.
@@amnanasir473 i thought the dad was supportive of him in season 1 so I felt they already knew. The mom seems to be that stern and reserved British stereotype compared to Nick’s mom. So i can agree with you there. There should have been a balance of support with dating being a privilege and not following certain rules can mean revoking privileges.
@@ipurpleu1668 i did not think of that. Yeah, you’re right. Charlie was stressed since he was outed years before and it was when his eating disorder began. So I get why Charlie felt that them banning the happiest thing in his life was the worst thing in the world. But I can understand the parents wanting him to focus on school with minimal distractions first. Once that is over with, Charlie can go back to everything else. But agree they need to see he is struggling with depression, his eating disorder, and stress. Now thinking about it, it was ofd how Nick and his mom noticed this and not Charlie’s actual parents. Maybe Charlie’s parents are in denial or maybe thought Charlie’s behavior was not unusual from what they do know about him. Maybe charlie is good at hiding it. Sorry for my rant. But your comment actually helped me rethink some things so thank you.
@@gabrielleduplessis7388 Yeah, I think sooo much of Charlie's struggles are so easily dismissed. But it's almost why the storytelling is so good! Because it's very realistic for people to not notice mental health struggles and it just shows that because even the audience doesn't recognize it, even though it allll right there. Another very interesting scene I don't hear people talk about much is from season 1. Tao and Isaac are sitting at lunch and Tao is complaining that Charlie is eating lunch with Nick. Then the rugby lads show up and Harry throw the ball at Tao. As the audience, you get invested in how Nick tries to get the ball back and that whole scene. But barely ANYONE notices that Charlie is missing. Tao just said that Charlie was eating with Nick, but then right after we seen Nick with the team. And this was before Charlie starts obviously spiraling in episode 8 and we see Nick and Tao both wondering where Charlie is. So were there actually many times were Charlie would lie to both of them to get out of eating lunch with anyone? Just an interesting scene that hints a lot at something but no one (the characters or audience) question it.
no i'm sorry but the mom was right about Charlie school is important and she didn't say that was permanent the only thing he had to do was his homework and then he could have spend time with Nick prove that was nothing to do with Nick if they really wanted them to be apart from each other they would have take his phone and maybe ask the teacher or whatever to not pairing them in anything ..
Ben's comments piss me off so much, like he and nick are nothing alike, he's come out to his friends, to his mom, he doesn't ignore and act like Charlie doesn't exist, like yeah maybe he's not out to the ENTIRE school but its not like he's hiding their relationship in the way ben did
Im the oldest gen z (1998, self identify as a millennial lmao) and i definitely had my phone taken away when i was in trouble. I got my first phone in 7th grade and I wasnt even allowed to take my phone to school until the next year, after i got stranded and no one could reach me. But yeah i dont think younger gen z people get their phones taken away anymore 🤷♂️

The ‘Good Mates’ Sequence was well done. I giggled at that. Sai and Otis weren’t having any of that 😂
Coach Singh has been nothing but iconic this season! She is MOTHER for looking out for Charlie and Nick.

I really loved the outfit change for Episode 3. It’s very Aromantic coded.

Repression is not the solution. Our parents have tried and failed. It makes us more sneaky.
