Critical role used to have their portraits represent how their character is doing during battle. So for example Caduceus was probably super low on health during a fight, hense all the blood and flashing red. Pretty sure they scrapped this mechanic all together later on and in campaign 3.
Yes it's totally ridiculous that people would ship two characters that have a very long and impactful story arc together. Next people will start shipping characters that like each other.

I also want them to smooch and cad to smile clueless down at ford blushing while he tries to slowly take off his shirt and talk about how much cad means to him.
