You can't expect miracles on serve, or when he is stretched out wide. On clay his speed and topspin can compensate for his lack of angles but on hard courts he will always be exposed to the game play of taller players who have a better serve and greater wingspan, especially players like Novak and Yannick who can hit hard and make it difficult for Carlos to deploy his powerful game.

For someone who I never even heard of (and I consider myself a pretty big tennis fan) to play that well against the best player in the world (not named Novak Djokovic) it is very impressive. A plethora of stunning points played by Ugo Carabelli. I expect to hear his name a lot more in the future. Camilo Ugo Carabelli is the name to watch for newcomer of the year. The 24 year old won a Challenger title in the beginning of the month, beating a red hot Federico Coria in the final. Even though he lost in straight sets, he plays VERY well against Alcaraz. There were a handful of points where he simply outplayed Carlos. Very impressive. Along with Arthur Cazaux, Camilo Ugo Carabelli is making a case for newcomer of the year. Anyone else that you guys would consider for Newcomer of the year and ATP NEXT GEN selection for 2024?
I agree. Facundo Diaz Acosta has been making a name for himself, but quietly. He’s been playing solid at the ATP level, but he hasn’t had that breakout moment yet, but that could be happing right now as he’s now a semi finalist in Buenos Aries. I genuinely hope he can win this tournament, because then he will put his name on the map for all tennis fans, not just Argentina tennis fans. I think he beats Coria in the Semis, but then he will most likely be playing Alcaraz. If he doesn’t, then he plays Jarry, who is tremendous on clay. But FDA is a solid player for sure.

Rotterdam is indoor - Alcaraz hates indoor tournaments. BA and Rio are clay courts - Alcaraz loves clay. Also these tournaments can help players adopt to American time zone(for IW and Miami. Rotterdam does not have this option) Also seems like IW courts are much closer to clay than very fast indoor courts like Rotterdam(You can check some Medvedev quotes from IW 2023). Also Rotterdam refused to give wild card to Alcaraz couple of years before(gave it to Andy Murrey instead) so Carlos could have been offended😂(it is a joke but still). Also Alcaraz won this tournament last year, so he wants to defend these points
