His greatest period!
5.04.2024.
1:10:26 is unbelievable. No one played this Variation like Pollini. It's so mysterious and pure at once!
Ever heard of Pogorelich ?
I do. Pogo is not famed for German repertoire, though.
@@hestontan555 He sure is famed for Schumann's Symphonic Variations (and Toccata).
His Mozart album is outstanding. And his Brahms album. And his Bach album. And his op. 111 studio recording.
His later renditions of opp. 31/2, 54, 78, 90 are stimulating at the least. His Paganini Variations (Brahms) are... interesting. His Schumann Concerto and Fantasy are, ahm, unique, not only in the good sense.
So German music is very much at the core of his repertoire, on par with Chopin and the late Russian romantics.
Greatest Of All Time, Maestro Maurizio Pollini! Thank you for always sharing precious historic materials!
ONE of the greatest certainly.
JohannesVanB, this outstanding listening, but PLEASE go back to your upload so as to insert timing indic- ations so that a desire to listen to selections that begin at later times can be accessed with much more ease. Thanks!

What a robust, masculine interpretation of the Op. 31 sonata! I agree - he is at his height here.
His performance of the arabesque is luminous and heartfelt, yet without sentimentality.
❤
Why won't he stop looking at me?
You are so witty. Clown.
tempest too fast.
Then just how "slow" should a "tempest" be then? Seriously?
