Why you should travel to Maupiti instead of Bora Bora?

  • Maupiti is a unique island in French Polynesia. People say it's like the Bora Bora in the 60s... No fancy hotels, you will most likely stay at locals, experiencing their simple and chilled life. The island is also the home of many manta rays and other beautiful marine creatures. It is definitely worth the trouble to take the longer flight, off the beaten path.

      Yeah! The water is just unreal, and the manta ray is like a floating angle in the sea.

    Love your footage of Maupiti. I have been to a couple French Polynesian islands and each one is unique and so incredibly beautiful. Have been to Moorea, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Rangiroa, and Tikehau. I am adding Maupiti to my list for next time (Fakarava, Huahine and Marquesas are also on my list). My I ask if you have a link where you stayed in Maupiti? Was it on VBRO or Air B and B or another platform? Thank you so much!

      Hello Becky! Thanks for your message! It's awesome you already visited so many islands, so next time you need to add Maupiti to your list:) Your question is good one, as finding accommodation was a challenge for us, as we hardly found options on the usual websites...so we started to call/or write Facebook messages to all the pensions on Google Maps. I know it's not the simplest way, but it's part of the Maupiti experience! We stayed at Pension Teheimana, that was excellent, our host was lovely! Link: pension-teheimana.jimdosite.com

    Maupiti is so beautiful & natural! 🎉 What month did you go ? Does it rain heavily every day?

    • @leavingin5
      @leavingin5  11 месяцев назад +2

      Hey, it's indeed a truly magical place. We were there in June and it only rained twice in a few days. But it did last only for a very short time. It was refreshing in the heat. Are you planning a trip?

      @@leavingin5 I plan to go at the end of November. Somewhat worried about heavy rain Maybe I'll change my mind and go (Dry season) because flights are hard to find from Tahiti. 😅

      @leavingin5  11 месяцев назад +1

      @@jamesj1321 Yeah, I am not sure how much rain you will have but probably it's still warm. The flight is not an easy choice, we struggled to fit it in as well... there are not many and they are not very cheap either. There is an island hopping pass by Air Tahiti that can make it more affordable in case you are planning to visit other islands.

    Amazing! Thanks for sharing your experience. What was the place you guys stayed in Maupiti?

    • @leavingin5

      Hey Rutger! We really appreciate your feedback. We stayed at Pension Teheimana, that was excellent, our host was lovely! Link: pension-teheimana.jimdosite.com . As there are not many places to stay, it's important to book way in advance! The accommodations are also mostly not registered to the usual platforms (booking/airbnb), so we found them on Google maps and called them directly. I hope it helps!

    Have you been to Huahine? if so, how do they compare? do you like one better?

    • @leavingin5
      @leavingin5  8 месяцев назад

      Hey! We did Moorea, Tahiti and Maupiti. We didn’t have time to go to Huahine. As we had time for 3 islands, based on a local friends recommendation the off the beaten path one was Maupiti that we loved! I am sure Huahine is also a special experience. If you visit it, let us know how it went and we add it to our bucket list;)

    You shouldn't, Bora Bora is the best island in the world

    • @leavingin5

      Hey, thanks for the comment! At the end I don’t think there is any island that is not awesome in Polynesia. Beyond that it’s up to personal preference. Bora Bora is for sure amazing! But if you want try something off the beaten path, without resorts or much tourists , my vote is Maupiti. Cheers!

      The Cook Islands are amazing too, especially Aitutaki.
      But for me, nothing comes close to Bora Bora.
