- Welcome to another episode of Trailmakers! Today we are doing a hovercraft battle over water! Hoverpads are only able to hover over water if you are going fast enough. Slow down too much and you will sink! Who can survive the longest?

Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

Battle idea: Sailboats. The only method of "propulsion" allowed is the force created by the wind on the High Seas map.
Also all weapons should be mounted facing to the sides, so you have to broadside each other

Didnt they do that before? It probably would be a bit better now since they did it before the combat changes.
Knowing that these gunpowder cannons exist, I feel like you have to do a proper ship battle with fixed point broadsides.
High seas map is perfect for that. Sails only perhaps

ship cannons had traversal? even the systems where they had them sliding in and out on rails had a fair bit of traverse available in the gun mount...aside from a couple instances where someone decided that they _really_ didn't want it to be possible for the crew to aim the gun anywhere but the hatch for the gun while it was inside the ship and that worked out about as well as you can expect, turns out being able to point the gun at a thing is a pretty damned important part of a gun-based weapons system.
history books like to point out outliers and quite frankly make a LOT of stuff up since a lot of historians like to pretend that everyone who is not in their personal social circle is a frothing idiot but as a general rule you can assume that nearly everything old was well made and well thought out for it's purpose. just because the person who made it was from a few centuries or few millenia ago doesn't make them newspapercomic stupid

Bro has a backup battery for his computer if a power outage comes. The sheer will of this dude is amazing when it comes to putting out videos.
NO JOKE when his power went out my mouse glitched and it played the disconnect sound for me and then when it came back on i could use my mouse!

Apparently power outages are way more common in the US and certain states, so investing in a UPS is a form of insurance that your work does not get screwed
I think that doing more melee battle games would be cool, using like hammers and stuff as weapons. Even if you detached them and threw them at one another, I think it’s a fun genre of battles

You should try an all-terrain battle. A vehicle that hovers, submerges, and fly. So if you're ever in a pinch, you could possibly dive down to escape, or fly up.
And with gunpowder cannons for the added fun

Yup. That or rockets. Or! They're only allowed a cannon and a rocket. So they can choose which to fire, and what maneuver they'll use to dodge it.
Imagine the dodges of an all-terrain battle vehicle. They could dive down letting the rocket trail past above them, or fly up out of the range of the cannon.

They do three rounds on these: in air, water and on land

What? In this battle, they're allowed to utilise all of them to their advantage freely. They can stay on land, go to the water, or dive down, or fly up, and seamlessly switch between each one if they need to.
Why limit to just one per round? That's no different to their regular battle; defeats the purpose of an all-terrain vehicle.

Would be interesting to do some kind of fortress battle. Lots of weapons and slow moving. Could be flying or floating or even on land. Flying would be cool :)

Scrap tried to go for the tankiest build, instead ended up the most agile.
A potential solution to the loosing speed when turning fast would be to mount the thrusters on a servo so you rotate the thrusters when turning, so you maintain speed, and that would make scrapmans hovercraft more agile.
Battle idea: Remote control Boats: Battleboats, but the only way to shoot is by detaching the shooting device onto another boat.
Other battle idea: Ramming Planes: Exactly that.

There's a workaround for the hoverpads' lower speed limit over water: if you rotate hoverpads around a center point using a helicopter servo, that rotation counts as the speed of the hoverpads, meaning your vehicle can stay stationary on top of water, as long as the hoverpads are still spinning

I have no clue why Scrapmans videos are so addictive, I quit my building game phase like 1 year ago yet I dont get bored seeing you build
Has anyone ever noticed scrapmans solutions to most problems Is it to add more stuff? :)
Too light? Add more weight!
Too heavy? Add more thrust!
Catches air at the back? Add wings everywhere!
Like its never to remove a block, there are so many other examples but yeh, I've been noticing this for a while now and finding it pretty funny :)

In battles like this though, it provides a certain amount of redundancy that often helps him.
No one used spinning hover pads. You could have done shnook style spinning hover "blades" and fully stopped on the water. That's the life hack for hover vehicles.
One of the fun things about watching these Challenges is enjoying Spectating them, then after the Vid, pondering the scenario "What if I had been attempting this... how would I build...?"... It's hard not to wonder if it'd be interesting to see what people would make inspired by these Challenges, but not being tasked to be a total badass and capable of Crafting these things in metaphorical moments using godly talents we all don't get to have the luxury of having. (My Building Time for stuff is more appropriately measured in Hours to Days...)
If you add a rotating base to rotate the hoverpads, you essentially trick the game into thinking that the hoverpads are moving above 35mph. In this way you can stay on the water while being completely motionless. I tried it, and it works. You should check it out. :)

Can you do a challenge where instead of creating a vehicle that changes the shared weapon each round, you make your own custom turrets with different shared vehicles each round?
Battle idea: Hovercrafts vs. helicopters and the only weapon is gunpowder cannons. You could do a 2v1 where there is one heli and 2 hovercrafts or vice versa.
Edit: If the helicopter somehow gets shot down before they got any kills, the remaining hovercraft will fight each other.
Really fun video, I wanna replicate this with my friends now.

Battle idea: you should do a glider battle where you use one or two miniguns for propulsion but also to shoot with.
They have already done that with minigun powered planes

Battle idea. What if you battled with nothing but dispensers. I know metal cubes and snowballs AT LEAST do damage if you are traveling at a suitable momentum
Another good battle that is not merely jousting with tankyness and luck :) We need more of this kind of tactical manouvering and aiming. And less going straight against each other with autoaim until the least tanky vehicle breaks.

Day 2: Idea: RC battles! You will need logic to make a car/plane/tank/whatever you feel like building but RC. You will have a seat somewhere where it won’t be destroyed which controls your RC vehicle. You will also probably need camera blocks. RC vehicles are annoying to build (trust me I have experience) because of logic but I think you guys can make it work!
His gaming room background is REAL! Do you have any mystery holes with that set up? How are you supposed to game without holes?!
It's nice they added another person so it could be more challenging and also I have an idea for a video so here it's you can only move by paddling or sailing

Plane/submarine combination battle. Basically a plane that can dive into the water and then jump back out and go back to flying

Idea: every 2 minutes battling you creation goes from the ocean to the air any you have to build one creation that suits both environments

I think it would be a good idea to have a speed sensor which forces the thrusters on once you go below like 40kph.
Could you try to make a plane using helicopter blades instead of wing pieces.
Triathlon battle. Use the transformation function to change between plane boat and car mid battle

I wish there were more means of destruction in Trailmakers with something like stackable Blade blocks with increased durability and destruction to build huge swords out of or buzz saws to cut through creations

Race x Combat Idea: Race eachother while using hovercrafts over land BUT its dragon engines using logic and altitude sensors to avoid going too high
scrapman you could use the idea from one of your videos, when you've build a hovercraft that could stai on the watter surface without moving

Sailboats with broadsides would be fun. Instead of a single gunpowder cannon, have a limit of 5 per side and a minimum part count. Plus it has to be wind powered. Lining up a volley on the waves and hitting would be so satisfying.
I think that's also a great idea to do with airships or hovercraft. Great idea m8

Idea... Do a tower defense style. Planes against a base. Tower has max of 8 weapons planes have max of 1. Longest surviving tower wins. Tower complexity up to you guys. Planes win when base falls apart or no ability to defend itself
You should make a ufo battle so you can’t use wings or propellers only thrusters as propulsion gimbals or balloons as floatation in the air and a 200 block limit
Battle idea: Underwater planes, you have to make a plane with propellers to "fly" underwater.
Battle idea.. Personal Bayblade hovercraft that have a hop feature. The rotating hover pads will allow slower speeds over water, but also be vulnerable to impacts. Hopping will let you jump out of way, and even onto opponents.

Glider battle! No propulsion, only gravity! To make it interesting, theres a goal hoop/ring on the ground that you are all gliding towards.
High speed doughnuts with an articulating turret would be best strategy
Need to do challenge where each player randomly get a creation from previous videos that you guys created, and with a set time limit make modifications to them .
Like these hover craft, each player gets another's hovercraft randomly, makes some minor changes/improvements, in say 5 mins or so, and then fight each other again.
Or random creation battles with old creations, selected randomly.
Though, try to keep it somewhat fair, land to land, air to air.

So you know those robot war games where it’s these giant walkers going toe-to-toe? Maybe something similar to that but at a much lower scale, and you have two weapons for each arm or turret depending on how you do it? You could make it to where there’s no limit on legs but it has to be legs and no other propulsion other than how you walk.

You should play with kosmo and kan and do the backwards rockets (like in the video you tested to see if they travel straight down when at the same speed) and see who can survive the longest without being blown up
I'd like to see a similar battle to this, be it hovercraft, sailboats, whatever, but instead of top-mounted weapons, you're only allowed broadsides. Like, 2-3 of each weapon on each side of the craft that can only aim ~15 degrees total and fire all on one side at once.

Battle idea : Using a hydrofoil to fight on the water. You can not use any type of buoyancy.

If you attach hoverpads to something that spins e.g. Helicopter engine and you spin them you can be stationary over water because the hoverpads are over the speed requirement. It also allows you to do sharp turns.
MPM idea: hover bike battles. One seat with thrusters in center. Y’all can come up with the rest of the rules.
Battle idea rockets. Only using tail fins for turning and stability. High powercore limit for thrust.

I think that a cool idea in this would be to add bouys inside the hovercraft so that even if you stop flying on the water you can have the ability to float and regain your speed!
Idea: Jumping Trains. Build trains that can navigate an obstacle course in different ways including jumping, leaning on one side, leaning on another. The high jump idea could work on its own. See if you can make it jump on it’s own with a sensor so you do not have to do anything. It does it all on its own.
Battle semi's would be pretty funny. Like 2v2 ( if you can get another player) with a 18 wheeler and trailer and a deployable atack/ defense vehicle. Goal is to destroy the other teams truck. Or even a round robin style 1v2.
battle idea: pirates of the caribbean style of battle
1. map: High seas
2. 10 gunpowder cannons per side with a small delay between each cannons on side (like 0.1s - 0.25s) ; 0 on front and back
3. ships powered only by sails and max speed is 17.2 knots (32km/h);
4. no copter servos for steering so only rudder
5. Only a ship seat is allowed
6. few dynamites bunked somewhere in ship(gonna work like an irl gunpowder barrels - if it is shot, your ship gonna end in giant explosion)
so highly recc is build big chonky boi for a long battle
