Could you include your choice of cartridge load, shot size, gun choke (and make if you don't mind) and whether you've tested your pattern with your chosen shell. Each to his own, but I find the details as interesting as the end result.
some great birds there. A bit of advise i was given years ago- 'If the bird is curling lead the curling wing not the bird' something easier said than done. Reading some of the comments i don't think you were to far in front just off line.
Great images, the calibration appears to be a little out, from your footage the red dot appears to be above the actual impact point. This video clearly shows the vital importance of reading the birds line! Great work.
Well now your ready to really see where your aiming....I'm also ready to see the results.....get on the line and let your gun swing smooth and fire when it feels/looks right and they will come down....I know your going to miss when you spot shoot. Remember that snap shot you took killing the bird without thinking? Yes.....picture and remember what you did....now break it down as it was a perfect shot. Now do the same for every bird and your hits to misses will improve.....but unless your line is good each time you can miss in 4 places not just 2....So now your 50% better shot immediately! PM me if you would like to know a bit more....I can't wait to see your next footage!
Good vid again! Any more days lined up this season? I have a 200 bird day on the 12th and thinking of recording it, just unsure if the gopro will make me worse! Only one way to find out!
Yes I've got 4-5 more days. Go for it, following the birds with the camera can impact on the shooting so just ignore it, the video comes second to the shooting. Make sure you use the Narrow FOV setting
Bro....after watching this shotkam video i am unable to assess the speed of these tricky birds but still i beleive you are giving too much lead....specially long ones....reduce the lead....it might bring wonders for u.....great work with the gun and the cam
Interesting film and thanks for posting. I have a couple of (hopefully!) constructive comments ! Firstly, I would say that you are over-leading many of the birds shown as missed - a number of them appear to rear up and back away from the shotstring - in fact you can see the shot string in front of a number of them! Secondly, its a little hard to say from your editing where your pickup point is for the bird - but there is often a major gap between your dot and the birds head which takes a while to sort out. Easy from an armchair, I know, but maybe try by putting that red dot right on the birds head, even before you mount fully into the shoulder. Track the bird with dot on head to pick up the speed and angle/drift/curl, then pull out until you see "your lead" and fire. I dont use aShotkam but have described my technique on similar birds. And ....yes....we all miss sometimes :) :) Good luck with the next day(s) :) Nick
Thanks and agreed. I also seemed to be behind a number of them as well. Agreed I need to go straight onto the birds and follow them rather than follow the line up to them. This would give me more a bit more time to take the shot.
ShotKam looks to give strange effect and needs careful calibration.It does show gun movement well and smooth accelerating shots seem to be successful.You have a visitor here who I have know for many years although not seen in a long while who is an excellent game shot with real style and worth listening to.Good luck with your shooting the tall birds consistently.It is not easy and well worth the effort if in a position to do it in spite of the financial implications.There is nothing in game shooting quite like taking down those January archangel cock birds.Have fun. Hi sorry if this is abit personal but i would love to get out on a driven day as never been on a proper driven shoot. How much would a day like this video cost me?
Days are priced per bird shot and vary between £30 and £50 a bird. So a 200 bird day will cost circa £8000 divided by the number of guns ( 8-10). Roughly £800 to £1,000 each. My advice is forget the birds, you pay for the bangs. I would rather have 150 personal shots on a 100 bird day ( difficult birds) than 80 shots on a 200 bird day (and hit every bird)

I do alot of decoying a roost shooting with the shotgun but never been on a big pheasant day so was curious although i have been on small shoots through invites. Will have to do abit of saving or stick to the pigeons! Haha! Great vids by the way keep it up and thanks agen 👍
A lot are gliding so dropping from what I can work out, not that I get to shoot at those type of birds. Good point - I will check that again tonight.
Checked the calibration tonight and you were right ! At 40 yards the red dot was 1ft too high

On the crossers you are right, virtually every time I am over. I was aware of it on this day and still shot over the birds . More work needed
yup- it looks like you were avoiding the tree tops when attempting the crossers over the trees
