HAPPY NEW YEAR! We're working very hard to get back on the water and only took a day off over the Christmas period! Videos on our new Dyneema rig, paint job (we did the whole thing by hand) and installation of our new deck fittings coming soon, I've just got to find the time to edit them between boat projects! As always thanks for subscribing, liking and commenting. If you're interested in supporting the continuation of our productions, here's a link: www.freerangesailing.com/support-our-videos Cheers Pascale
Happy New Year! very informative as usual, this is a bit cheeky, but would you be happy sharing the dimensions of your push pit seat? ( stern seat) It looks great and I'd like to attempt to make one. Cheers x
I agree. Not only are the design and quality of work excellent but the commentary and interaction between Troy and Pascale is a real pleasure to listen to and watch.
You channel is actually better than anything on the tele now days. Great camera angles and sound editing. Being someone that has issues with volume change I really like your sound quality. I know the work that goes into your weekly and really appreciate and enjoy you videos. I also love flapper discs and flaper wheels last alot longer and work time is greatly reduced.
Been following your channel for a while and appreciate all the detail you include when carrying out repairs and re-fits. It makes good sense in all cases to do it right and maintain integrity and reliability in all the small and large works. I appreciate it even more when I watch other channels of couples doing the 'yacht world thing' and see the inevitable repairs and refits that they all do. All I can think of is 'what were they thinking?' 'That will be a problem in two months!'.........Troy would do it proper!!!!! They need to watch your channel. Great work, keep it up.
Troy - Im an aircraft engineer- thats not a B+ - But an A+ job! great work you two! hope you are very satisfied - as anyone who has built their own will know the satisfaction thats received
The two of you make an awesome team. You kids are one classy duel, What a fine job you kids have done. In all my years I've wanted to learn how to make things using fiberglass. But never had anyone to show me how it's done. And in my younger days there was no You Tub or internet to learn from and I ain't much good at book learning. I learn by someone showing me while I do it. I can set in a class with a book for hours and learn not much. BUT put me in a work space and let me get my hands on something and I'll learn how it done in the matter of minutes.... But now at my time in life all those things are long past. I now get to enjoy watching the amazing things y'all create..
I had to read up on PVC foam board after watching your video. The stuff is brilliant! So many possible applications on an old sailboat. Old rotted cap rails comes to mind. Shape them out of PVC board and vacuum bag them in glass. Thanks for the video!
The Dodger looks like an "AAA" job to me! HAPPY NEW YEAR to the both of you, wishing you both much health, happiness and plenty of nautical mile for 2021. Cheers.
Love you guys to pieces. I haven't seen a better channel on "how to"...It is amazing how much information you give. Fabulous job. It is clean, functional, and beyond professional level...and one more thing....It gives the boat a real seaworthy quality that a cloth bimini can never give. Well thought out and executed guys.
I find that ordinary cheap white vinegar is good to use for removing amine blush from CURED epoxy surfaces. Then rinse with fresh water. Your explanations and how-to guides is EXCELLENT advice for those trying to improve their boating life. That is the BEST dodger I have seen made--and the explanations were great.
remember that the holes in the plexiglass must be 15% larger than the diameter of the screws, so as not to create cracks during heat and frost ... !!excellent work ...!! Well done !
MR10 Polycarbonate is highly scratch resistant while sharing all other properties with its (considerably) less expensive "Lexan" counterpart. Love the work you guys are doing. Pro grade.
Hi Troy and Pascale, Two years ago I was preparing to head north for a year or two, and age and wisdom dictated I finally should build the dodger I had not needed when I built my Huon Pine yacht 40 years ago. In searching the net for ideas I found your wonderfully filmed and narrated videos on exactly how to do what I wanted. I meant to comment way back then, but I was getting ready to go sailing so put it off... Now I am back home in Tassie and enjoying watching your delightful and informative videos from the start and have no reason to put of commenting any longer. Put simply, I followed your method step by step and made myself a perfect solid dodger in two weeks. It has changed life aboard for the better and I am very pleased with its performance and strength. Since then I have cruised around Tasmania and up to the Whitsundays and back and to Port Davey and back at a very leisurely pace, enjoying all the little bays and anchorages I have sailed past in the past. Thanks heaps for making it so easy for me to build in a material I had never used before using methods I didn't know existed until I saw you use them. A great instructional video. Well done! Best wishes
I think I would finish your head that you've had torn apart for a year, or the bottom paint, or the topsides paint, or the dorades, or the stanchions, or the toerail, before you start thinking about adding a bar, yes? You've been in the yard for over a year. Do you have any of the above (that you yourself said you were going to do) done? Or perhaps you just wanna be one of those dudes who lives in a boatyard handing out unsolicited advice to the real sailors trying to get work done? The guy who always talks about getting his boat ready to sail around the world some day, blah, blah, blah. Yep, every yard that I've ever been in that allows liveaboards has a guy like you. Looks like you're that guy.
Absolutely fantastic! You beautiful people are the most painstaking perfectionists (and rightly so) I have ever had the pleasure in watching and observing. It’s most important that all of these works are completed exactly to the correct and applicable standards and I can see that is clearly the case. Excel standards clearly in some cases. Fine finishing with a “perfect eye” will allow Mirrool to stand proud and reward you each and every time she is berthed... just you wait and see. This is one very special “refit”. Keep up these great works, you shall be rewarded. Please don’t forget to rest. Oh, and stay safe! 👍 from me. 🇬🇧
Great episode you two!! I just wanted to say I've learned alot about fiber repair from ya all, my sons carbon fiber subframe on his dirtbike broke a mounting tab off and had a couple cracks as well. I ordered some carbon fiber and epoxy and we made an excellent repair using the techniques learned from watching your videos. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge, I just wanted you to know its not for nothing many of us are applying what your teaching in our everyday lives.. THANK YOU!!!
Impressive! Of all your upgrades the hard dodger takes the cake. It is quite "smart" (as they say in Australia, and Pascale states often - in a good way!). It almost puts Maroole into a different category in terms of aesthetics. You have a sweet "ride" now, whereas before it was all about efficiency.
Man that is an AWESOME build! I have been a do-it-yourselfer my whole life and I can appreciate how much time, effort, and skill it took to build the dodger. I really like the "armored car" look. HA!
Well done, and great to see someone using sealant correctly. Too often people crank down on the fixings and leave a paper thin layer of sealant that shears the seal the first time it expands and contracts. 👍🏻 🇦🇺 Go Qld
Troy and Pascy: Love your channel…. I could watch your maintenance videos for hours… But would prefer you on the water👍 Hope you intend to travel a whole bunch in the Future. Amazing couple: sure tell lots of Love between you ❤️ two… Continue living your life Free and Easy😎 Barry Deacon Brandon Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦
Wow! SIX months! Fortunately I only had to watch the videos ;-) Nice work on the dodger and the windows. Just know that the tinted polycarbonate panels are going to expand and contract with temperature changes at a greater rate than the fibreglassed vinyl foam of the dodger. If there's no give at the fasteners, the induced stresses will likely result in some deformation. There must be some products that will fill the inevitable cracks on the windows and some that even provide UV protection against crazing.

Awesome Job, you're hired for my next boat job! Congrats !
When cleaning your new windows make sure not to use any cleaner with a high ph. It will destroy it.
a tip : you can watch series on Flixzone. I've been using it for watching a lot of movies these days.
@Christopher Thomas Definitely, have been using Flixzone} for since november myself :D
I could honestly watch your boat refit videos all day long, they're so informative and we'll produced!
Thank you!
The Dodger looks amazing. Professional quality.
Beautiful how the two of you work together.
Wow. Looks like an A+ job from this angle.
Ok this is video number 38 of my "I want to buy a Free Range Sailing hoody" campaign
Cheers
Matt
That dodger is money. It looks fantastic.
The window installs look very impressive. Excellent job!!
The dodger looks good, way better than the old one.
Troy you should write "how to" books. I think you can do anything... Boats looking great..
I agree. Not only are the design and quality of work excellent but the commentary and interaction between Troy and Pascale is a real pleasure to listen to and watch.
Books are not a modern way of communication anymore. These videos are the best way for Troy to get his ideas and tips out to everyone
Mr Troy some people still read.
Dude you gotta merry that girl. You guys are beautiful together. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
It looks so PROFESSIONAL...WHAT A GREAT GREAT JOB...it looks AMAZING...it fits so well it looks like it's been there from the beginning!!!

That dodger looks nice and strong and yet very light. Great job. Enjoying your refit...
Well I know what Im making my dodger out of! Thats brilliant!

Troy you are a very lucky man and if you ever become a Taff teacher mate I will be there, you are awesome
I could never decide which youtuber was my favourite. Thank you, now i'm biased as well.
Great work on the dodger and all the other stuff... and it holds both of you and catches rain water...
Have a great day!!!
Educational and enjoyable, a winning combination! A job well done, you ought to be proud of yourselves.
One Great looking Dodger !
Dodger looks factory integrated very nice work....Now....GO SAILING!!! (lol)
Nice to see that you named it after me
MR10 Polycarbonate is highly scratch resistant while sharing all other properties with its (considerably) less expensive "Lexan" counterpart. Love the work you guys are doing. Pro grade.

That dodger came out 10/10, beautiful job.
I really like that bar, I might have to think about adding one to my boat!

Not AAA quality ? You sell yourselves short. Bloody awesome job as usual. Well done !
Forstner bits. Glad they worked for you. Much better than spade bits for a lot of jobs.

Loved the dodger build

Great looking dogger.
It’s triple a+.... no problème !
That polycarbonate is strong stuff. 1/2" will stop a .45 ACP 230 grain FMJ at point blank range. Nice work!
Wow! SIX months! Fortunately I only had to watch the videos ;-) Nice work on the dodger and the windows.
