I was watching the show 'London Irish' and it mentioned a 4 hand jig. Googled it and this came up. I understand the concept better now and assume jig and reel are colloquial terms for the same dance.
Musically, Jigs are in 6/8 time and reels are in 4/4, so they are not the same musically or dance-wise. I say this both as a music teacher and an Irish dancer. Typically the style of dancing differs between the two, but it may be less noticeable in ceili (seen here) dancing vs solo dancing to the casual observer.
These girls are very good! I'm expecting they got placed. If so, what place did they get? So excited for the upcoming oireachtus, sorry if I spelled it wrong ;)
