Thanks for great video, but here's a great tip for cleaning the calibration pots the easy way - remove the caps, put the deck with front panel facing up, put a tube on the shaft and spray the contact fluid down the shaft. Give pots a few turns, they will loosen up quickly and fluid will make it's way down to the contacts. No more crackling and pots will be really easy to turn. No front panel disassembly required!
Many thanks for this video. It gave me the know-how to disassemble my RS-BX707, re-lube the mech, and fix a noisy capstan. I have some other Technics decks, and now feel more confident about opening them up for maintenance/repair.
thank you for the great detailed video! helped me a lot with calibrating my 707. i have the same test tapes as you and also just bought the same osciliscop to get the readings on the dolby chips ;)
Thank you so much vor the video. My favourite decks, 6x6 7x7 series. I own 4 of them, when they work good, the sound is great ! I moded mine with relays to replace the cmos 4066 chips.
One good way I was told was to separate a cassette and just put one half of the case in, that way the when you press play you can get full access to the whole tape path for cleaning.
Good morning and congratulations for the videos. At 32:45, are the three poles of the - + nc cable all connected? On my technics plate model rs b765 the NC pole is disconnected.
I would also like to thank you for this great video :) I also have the same RS-BX707 with a few problems - the door opens so lazy, as on the one in your video, but unfortunately the tape no longer turns - neither plays, forward or reverse :( - it just make some creepy noise and turns off. I will defenetly do all the procedures described by you step by step. But I also would like to know about the modifications you made on the mainboard, and this module you added for getting less noise - did you made it or you get it from somewhere? How can I make ot buy such, and how to install it? Best Regards!
Hello Take the door off and check if the capstan is spinning when the unit is powered on. If that works, then the issue might be that gear I talk about at 41:12. As for the modifications, here is a thread on tapeheads.net that details them: www.tapeheads.net/threads/technics-rs-b765-sound-can-it-be-modded.27829/page-3#post-775586141 I would not reccomend you try these modifications unless you have at least basic electronics and soldering skills.
@@kovutlk Thanks for the links! I'm fine with soldering and the mechanics, so I will play for it :) What I don't have is that special tapes with pre recorded frequencies for calibration. Also this special tools and equipment, so I should find someone else for help with the calibration. Once again thanks and keep up those good videos :) Kind regards!
Hi good work im just about to work on a rs-bx707 and rs-bx727 can you please advise which pinch roller you use as im having trouble find out correct one. Many thanks
Hello. You could get rollers from fixyouraudio, but I've had mixed results with them, even tho the issues I had were resolved. What I do now is I got a bunch of 13mmx8x2 pinch rollers from ebay (they came in a 5 pack) and I trim one of the nylon circles on the sides with a sharp blade. That brings it to the correct width and I've had no problems with them. Then again, everything from china is a gamble. Good luck
hello here i am again. At 16:28 and 33:25, could you explain to me how to connect the two-pole cable to both sides? I unplugged the cable and can't remember how it was. Thank you Orlando.
Hi Get the service manual and look at page 17. Figure K and L show you the layouts of the pcbs. look for connectors W201A on K and J201A on L. You can see the number of the pins. Connect 1 to 1 and 2 to 2. Good luck!
Hi, I wanted to ask you when you adjust the voltage on the Dolby chips during playback, does the vu-meter have to reach the Dolby symbol or about +3 db? Thank you
If you're using a Dolby reference level tape (218nWb/m @315Hz) then they should reach the Dolby symbol. If you're using a 250nWb/m @315Hz reference tape then they should reach 0dB, but you'll need to allow for the Dolby reference voltage being 1.2dB (~1.15x) higher. If the meters disagree with the Dolby IC calibration then the meters need recalibrating. I don't have the service manual to hand, so I'm not sure if meter calibration is even possible on this model.

Working in a sony 750ES now, very good playback, very back record :(

Well done.
But PLEASE🙏 get some kind of phone holder or something else. I`m getting drunk by watching it.

Need more info on diode for torque.thanks
Please, may I ask what the size of the door belt is for the BX707. Thank you.
Hello. I didn't measure the belt but you can use a piece of string around the pulleys to measure it.
Good morning and congratulations for the videos.

Hello.
I don't know why they designed it with a 3 pin connector. Only the + and - wires are connected. NC stands for not connected

I have bought the same test tapes. Where can I find the dolby level list?? Would be much appreciated.
Just google luckyx02 dolby level and you should find it. Good luck!
