if japan is very advance in technology,, indonesia is definitely very advance in foods, they are the first one who has the guts to put chocolate and cheese together in one food, and surprisingly its just match very well..
Interestingly enough, Indonesian make a lot of foods based on tempe. From fried tempe (there are 2 varians), tempe dishes (with veggies), sambel tempe (with chillies), tempe chips, tempe mendoan, list goes on and on..🤣🤣, so for vegetarians maybe you could learn a lot from Indonesian tempe recipes..
As a Chindo, I feel that Indonesian food is as good as Thai food. The problem is there is not enough hardworking entrepreneurial Indonesians who goes abroad and is willing to work hard to make Indonesian food popular.
Semakin banyak makanan Indo yg dipopulerkan mungkin akan membuat orang asing malah bingung milih menu 😂😂😂 1 jenis makanan aja beda kota beda rasa, lidah asing mungkin bakal ngelag 😆😆😆
Going abroad is too expensive, let alone opening business. Indonesian do not travel that much to promote their food. Plus, the english mastery. One can surf tons of indonesian food using Bahasa Indonesia, not english.
For chicken, probably I recommend to you to try AYAM TALIWANG is originally from Lombok island , but you may find in jakarta too , also Ayam Rica-rica/ WOKU originally from Minahasa / North Sulawesi and you may find also in jakarta. Both of chicken are spicy, so be careful.
There are so many non halal eateries too if you don't mind to do some searching. You still can have pork satay or snake satay in Java, or even bat satay in Solo or Cirebon. We're not extremely strict muslims since people love swikey (frog with soy sauce), bat satay, snake floss, and some other exotic bizzare menus. Don't forget to try local palm wine (tuak) and rice wine, e.g Ciu Bekonang in Solo, Tuak from Tuban, Brem from Bali.
Guys, I'm absolutely stuffed after this food journey. Can't even fit in a soft brownie. Tempeh tofu, no I'm not going to unsubscribe, you can't make me Ryan. Please don't give Sara a hard time! What a delightful partner you have. Cheers
You two are HILARIOUS. I ugly laughed after Sara asked for cigarettes to pose as an Indonesian poster child. Anw you should try food from Manado or Bali next time because they have completely different taste profiles.
Enjoyed this one also. Love your sense of humor. I admire your willingness to try everything, even the street vendors. Some of us even won't eat it for hygienic reasons (not me). You didn't have upset stomach, did you, after trying all that food ?
Pecel, soto betawi, martabak bangka, ayam taliwang, ketoprak, karedok, gado gado, ikan cuy, pelecing kangkung, sate, tengkleng, so on and so on there are too many delicious food in indonesia i couldn't even pick one 😮

Thanks for the great food tour! Favorite Indonesian dish? We'll do with Gado Gado. And, not that you asked, but I vote Japan for best chicken. The karage and yakitori cannot be beat! Question for you: which do you prefer, the aji in Ecuador or the sambal in Indonesia? Both are great.
Japan might be #1 for everything when it comes to food. Sambal vs aji... I dunno. Depends what type and what you're eating with it. There should be a hot sauce Olympics.
I agree with japan for non spicy chicken dish, I love karaage and yakitori. but for spicy chicken, Indonesia is definitely full of delicious chicken dish such as ayam taliwang or panggang rica. 👍
I love karaage, I'd make them every other weekend. Love stuffing them inside tortilla wrap, make a sandwich out of them, in a rice bowl, even as snack. Can't say much about yakitori, I'm a sate fanboy. I just can't get over the sweet savory peanut sauce. Japanese food is on of the most popular foreign cuisine here aside from Chinese food which we have here through the Chinese descent Indonesian from way back before our colonial times which is over 3 centuries, so it's more like in our culture already. But Indonesian really do love Japanese food, we even have our Indonesian Japanese fast food chain, Hoka Hoka Bento. More often than not our food culture is misunderstood. We Indonesian have the arguably most international food culture as we have influences from Chinese, Dutch, Middle Eastern, Portuguese, American, Indian, Japanese, and we share some similarities to our Southeast Asian siblings like Malaysia (obviously), Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam. So rest easy you'll find something you'd like here if you'd just get the right direction. Love from Indonesia.

It's not the food that's cheap, it's the currency that's weak. For most indonesian people, spending 100k on a single meal is still considered a luxury. So when tourists using us$ keep commenting how food is cheap here it comes across as condescending for me personally

Red rice is not brown rice. Brown rice is unpolished white rice.
Yeah, but I think the Indonesian name for brown rice literally translates to 'red rice'. I may be mistaken.
