Trophies are mostly good for trophies, but honestly, panfish can put up a fight, ultra light setup and 2-3lbs line will make even a small crappie or bluegill feel like a decent bass.
@@seanaldrich4541 Three distinct thorax segments and the typical two tails instead of three that most mayfly species have made it look like a stonefly to me. The fish don't care what they are called though, they eat them all.
Midwest has stoneflies too bros. It is a stonefly imitation, fish don’t care what they’re called but humans do because it’s all about knowing what’s up.
I really enjoy the fact you do a lot of panfishing (bluegill-crappie-sunfish and such) with ultra light gear. I am pretty sick of seeing nothing but bass and walleye fishing on RUclips. Your channel is one of my top channels to watch! Keep the great vids coming!
Crappie taste so good.. we were catching a bunch a few weeks back some upwards of 17 inches giants.. love the show btw the quality of your filming is second too none keep up the good work and good luck bro..
I get excited when I catch crappie also. And it's cool how stoked you get when you land one. Come on over to Beautiful Lake Stockton Missouri if you want to double (plus) your PB....all day long. Two and a half pounders are not that rare...hit some nearby irrigation ponds and three and a half pounders are attainable.
Love these series. Great to see you keep catching your pb’s. Good content fun to watch. I think eventually you will get out there. You at least deserve more views.
Nikko Kasei make some fabulous lures, really lifelike and really stretchy. I've not used the Stonefly yet, but they make some really nice pin worms that I use to good effect catching European Perch, but I definitely think that Crappie would also find them irresistible. Tight lines!
Gotta love those spots where the crappie stack for the spawn. Nicely done, panfish really love those plastic stonefly baits they work great on yellow perch too.
Nice eating size crappie, but they must get much bigger in the South -- my PB for a black crappie was 2 pounds, 9 ounces, caught in the False River in Louisiana in 1978. I had it mounted and it hung on the wall until recently when it was damaged, and would have cost a bunch to have repaired.
Messing around as kids, my brother and I were out early one morning and he hooked up and landed a Black Crappie that was over 3 pounds and I think about 18" long. It went second in the state (Michigan) that year, mid-70's IIRC. At the time we were using night crawlers and a single #10 hook tied directly to the line. When you see that huge flash of silver side it definitely gets you excited!!
Gotta love the internet... We were fishing off a place called Tire Island. We just called it Gilligan's Island because we used to strand each other on it as a prank. I learned real quick to pee before heading out to fish if you didn't want to risk a stranding... Here's a link to the map. www.google.com/maps/place/Tire+Island/@44.0621292,-84.3463879,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x8821a5454556cd4f:0xa7c0c38fc2f26ae3!8m2!3d44.0653675!4d-84.3549156
You put alot into filming and editing..and I love the soft plastics..and you caught a couple of nice slabs..if you ever want to smash your PB crappie..come down south
I have a 20 ft. bass boat and I catch WAY more from the bank than from the boat. I attribute it to the stealth you get from not being in/on the water above the fish.
Also Crappie are notorious for biting at night as well. I know in Ohio a lot of bigger fish stay out in open water in the day and come super shallow at night. Where i’m from crappie is bad during the day. You should definitely try it at night too!
I have loved watching your channel grow (a little jealous) but it's well deserved, you do a good job! Nick, your footage is very nice, do you record in 4k? It really pops.
I use that some type of 3D plastic mayfly type thing. I was skeptical too but then I started killing panfish. It works great you could either use a jig head or a little J hook. Cool video man keep it up
Hey what was the soft plastics or worms that you said were expensive couldn't find them in desrip I ordered the cheapest tiny lure....i love pan fishing love your channel
Love the video catching does Croppy looks like a lot of fun that little lure catching nice fishes it blows my mind I’m like how but cool keep making cool videos like this Best Fishing RUclipsr your videos makes my day a lot better.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You make me want to start fishing more i love fishing but stress of life has been holding me hostage I'm going to quit my job and start a RUclips for fishing thank you bro 👊💯
That is called a Stonefly, and its one of the main food sources for trout and other fish. Thats why its so effective. This is perfect for fast pocket water since this kind of bugs live on that spots because of the amount of oxygen in the water. Put one of those lures scratching the bottom and you will have really good success.
Like the videos. Although how haven't you seen micro plastics before haha. There are hundreds, mainly for ice fishing. I've caught thousands of panfish off all sorts.
you should use that stonefly with your flyrod at that trout stream you fished at just dead drift it on the bottom of the river!! that is a stonefly nymph!
As usual enjoy your video and Congrat on the big ones, next time will be your PB for sure. I’ve never weight crappies before just measured the length, do they have scale convert length to weight like bass. The biggest I caught is 14”.
Good fishing. While that first bait appears to be a stonefly imitation, given its somewhat generic, it appears that it actually imitates a dragonfly larvae that populates almost all waters, except for the most rapid cold water streams. A smaller more slender larvae are the damselfly larvae. I’ve been on ponds, lakes and rivers where the more common fish forage it dragonfly larvae. Some Dragonfly larvae get much larger than that lure. I’d bet that where you find Brushy laydowns, with depth you’ll find crappie in the early spring - which is where crappie spawn.
Try Trout Magnets or Panfish Magnets, they are basically the same thing, just different colors. I have used trout magnets and have caught jumbo sunfish and big bass and plenty of trout off of them.
Also how come you didn't put the other soft bait you used when you caught your tie of your pb? It didn't look like the nymph? You showed the bag you got it out of but didn't say what it was. Was just curious buddy.
If you want to catch big crappie try out Carlyle Lake where Carlyle Sailing Association is because I caught a pound-and-a-half crappie there before and you catch a bunch there
First off love your channel, keep going. One thing, you would lose less fish if you would take just two more turns on your reel, you stop reeling in too soon.🎣🎣🎣🎣
Great video.. Love that bait.. looks like it works great.. those were some amazing catches.. keep up the great work brother.. As always get out there and keep rippin those lips..
Bro love how pumped you get catching pan fish. Most anglers go for trophies. It's awesome seeing you get so amped for crappies
Just told myself the same thing. Having an appreciation for the smaller species as well just makes fishing that much more entertaining.
Trophies are mostly good for trophies, but honestly, panfish can put up a fight, ultra light setup and 2-3lbs line will make even a small crappie or bluegill feel like a decent bass.
Ultra light fishing is really fun. And of course maybe 1/100 fish you catch will me an "oh ***, this ain't a crappie" fish haha.
The size of crappie he is catching are trophies.
Man my cousins and i go out specifically for crappie
thats a stonefly soft plastic. typically you find stoneflies living in coldwater streams, but it looks like it killed in that pond. very good job
Mayfly in the midwest

There are probably plenty of mayfly nymphs living in that pond. I don't think the Crapies are counting thorax segments and tails. Close enough, yum!

Been subscribed since the beginning. Best fishing RUclips channel BY FAR!!! Stoked to watch your videos when I get the notification! 🤘
Nice fish! That's a Nikko stonefly. A professional panfish guide near me uses them all the time and got me hooked on them. Awesome baits.
It always feels like you bring us along for the journey. Great videos.
I LOVE watching you catch crappie. Crappie are one of my favorite fish to catch. I cant wait to get to the lake
His balance is remarkable. I salute you SIR.
PB crappie is 15.5 inches. Over 2 pounds. It was in a private lake surrounded by McMansions. The residents were surprised to see fish in the lake.
I get excited when I catch crappie also. And it's cool how stoked you get when you land one.

You must be from the desert. Never known an outdoorsman to refer to saplings spaced 20 ft apart as "dense woods"
I'm from the desert and you just nailed my own thoughts as well.
"Oh man, that vegetation looks kinda thick."
🤣
Y'all stop
@@hcnevils why?
The underbrush looks pretty dense though.

dang man, do you not like eating fish? Crappie (fried) are some of the best to feast on!
I would be thinking about adding some more brush piles.

what bobber floats are you using?
You should get yourself a float tube. Looks like the Eastern March Brown Mayfly Nymph.
Whats that 06:32 in "between" two branches sticking out of water , red ball?

Love it keep fishing 👍
My brother caught a huge crappie on a pink worm. I'd say it was around 1.5 or 2 lbs easily. It was at the surface looking for food
I would like you to comment on the type line and size hook used. Great video.
Awesome vid! You should start keeping track of your length for Crappie too! Length is just as important! Especially when Crappie fishing
Were you using a bobber?
Come to Mississippi ❗️❗️ We can easily break your PB Crappie here
That first fish was perfect live bait
If you want to catch big crappie try out Carlyle Lake where Carlyle Sailing Association is because I caught a pound-and-a-half crappie there before and you catch a bunch there
How much do the fish grips weigh? Cause you got to subtract that weight from the total weight.

Hey Nick come down to mississippi and catch some 2lb crappie
Do u use hooks with no barbs, that y u ofen loose fish?
Ok don't know how you say see you later buddy, to those crappies. You must have Mahi to eat at home. Lol
I really miss the big bait challenge tbh
Obviously it would work, its basically their food chain! I've used something similar and its non stop action.
Hope you can blow off the negative comments. I like what your doing and how you do it. “See you later buddy.”
