I agree with Laura, I think the most important thing is that people in need were helped which is dope. I also think it was dope that Drake was the one that helped. But also somewhere way down the line a part of me understands Rosenberg sentiment that the moment you bring a camera crew and package it with your new single it ceases being a random act. When you also get mad because a radio personality didn't give you the props you felt your deed deserved, it ceases being a selfless act as well. Giving should be done for the sake of giving not for the extras that come with it. Which leads me to my main issue with Drake across the board (songwriting included) is that I always have to question is this genuinely from his heart or is this just a part of the machine at work again.
So it's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't right? Because if he did all of these acts of kindness lowkey, yall would still criticize him for apparently not hearing about all the good he's doing. There's no wrong way to give charity bruh.

But you didn't answer the bulk of my argument. If Drake doesn't make this video, he still gets called out by people like yourself and Rosenberg for "not doing enough" for these communities and people. Like, I said, he apparently does wrong being lowkey with his giving and being highkey with his giving, so I'd rather someone in Drake's stature be highkey with it, therefore exalting the people who's struggles were shown in the video + encourage someone else to do the same.
You can say "there's no need for a music video" showing acts of kindness, but somewhere this is changing the mindset of a person who watches it. It is saving the life of someone who has no hope. It is inspiring someone to make a change or a difference in their community. Who cares whether the spark for that change comes from word of mouth or a newspaper article or a music video? Kindness has many forms.
Also, in regards to his response to Rosenberg, people will get offended when you call into question their calling or what they feel passionate about. Drake feels passionate about giving back to the community, showing them love and exalting them in the form of exposure in the music video. For Rosenberg to say that the human emotions and coordination in that video felt "contrived" is a big spit in the face to not only Drake's want to change the communities he frequents, but the people in the video who we see are suffering or living in these communities.
If you were an artist and someone spat on your painting and called it trash (which is different from good, wholesome criticism), would you not feel offended and angered?
DJSmallz Please look up the definition of a straw man argument! You're arguing a point that myself and Rosenberg never made! I have never in my life called out Drake for not doing enough charity or work in the community and neither did Rosenberg. Actually myself and Rosenberg acknowledge the importance of people being helped. The only issue we had was THE ACTUAL VIDEO which was presented to us to consume! When you present something to someone they are allowed to have an opinion on it. In film school one of the first things they taught us is how to defend your work because art is supposed to spark conversation and criticism is inevitable so as long as you know your intention and it reaches the people it's supposed to the rest is irrelevant. The fact that Drake still hasn't learned this lesson is shocking tbh. Moral of the story Drake did a great deed but I have a problem with the look what I did mentality after the fact. Rosenberg touched on his Jewish upbringing and as far as my upbringing giving back and helping people less fortunate was something that was expected it wasn't this thing to be made a spectacle out of or for everyone else's approval.
