I have a speedex, not sure what model or year it is but mine has a hand clutch that you pull back once you've selected forward or reverse and it puts tension on the drive belt. The pedal on mine releases the pressure and the hand brake is right below the seat in the middle. I would like to completely restore mine one of these days!
Simple yet built to last, not like modern junk. I have an s18, s23, s24 and 1631 that are still going strong.
Whare do you get parts and mower blades for them?

Dave is the lever behind the battery a gear selector? if so is it one gear forward and reverse? Can't wait to see it run.
