- This is my entry for the Age of Swagwave 2017 Contest (link below). The contest was to create an alternate ending of one of Swagwave's videos. I chose his Nemesis vs MP-10 video. In the original, Prime crushed the "dark matrix", so I thought, what if Prime COULDN'T crush it? So that is the inspiration of this video. I’m no diehard Bay fan or anything, but as someone who grew up on those movies and was so used to hearing G1 fans dunk on them so much, 2:31 has always been a little… therapeutic for me. Nothing against G1 or anything, I adore G1 (at least Seasons 1-2). It’s just a fun inverse of what I’m so used to seeing online.
I'm in the same boat as you. I love G1. But it's fine to have fun in the opposite direction here and there!

How did you do it? Did you throw it frame by frame in order to get it into his body?
Yeah, the maxtrix rolling was all frame by frame making it look like it was bouncing around. Mostly with putty holding it in different spots out of the view of the camera. There may have been a few edited frames to remove supports.

Whoa. I've never seen stop motions this fluid before. How many photos did you have to take just for this 3-minute clip?

Well, I don't have an exact count, but it was in the neighborhood of 3,500 pictures. Technically there was only about 150 seconds of animated footage, when you take away the logos and the recap of the original video, etc. It was shot at 24 FPS, but there are always some adjustments I make in post-production editing that slightly increases or decreases the frame count.
Just Root for all the Primes.. Be a Transformers Universe uniter like me and help bridge the gap between the G1 only and the Movie only crowds! 😂
This is the origin of the kid. I was animating the last scene I called to my 9yr old son and said.. "hey, get a lego boy minifig for me, would ya? I have an idea for something at the end". That is what he gave me, and I added the ice-cream at the last second. haha!

3,500 photos? I can only dream of coming close to that if I ever animate that 12-inch Marvel Legends Thor, who looks like Ken Masters from how he looks in Street Fighter V, in my opinion.
Right now I only have Revenge of the Fallen Leader Class Prime and Beast Hunters Ultimate Prime.

Well, you don't need to START with 24 FPS... 12-15 is a great range to start doing animations. Its less about the frame rate, and more about making the character LOOK like they are actually doing the action. With those 2 primes, I guess you could do your own Battle of the Primes! 😂
As for the kid, well, he's probably in a mental hospital now, or isolated in a cabin in the woods, due to all years of teasing the other kids did to him for trying to say he SAW giant robots fighting and no one believing him! Or... Who knows... maybe that's how Simmons started out... and he'll be some conspiracy theorist nut that gets a job for the government?
Or maybe he's too busy playing video games in his Mom's basement to care?
A shame that my Leader Class Prime had an accident thanks to the fact that I carried him around in a shoe box. Never again.
As for the kid, he should feel somewhat validated now that the parts of the world know about Transformers.

It was all just for fun, not a statement! 😂. For the record, I prefer G1 myself, that is why my first Stop Motion series (Vector Sigma) is based on G1 and will have many stories.

My idea is like this: that boy goes home terrified and tells his family, they dont believe it, and from nothing two transformers crash into their house fighting and destroy it. Then they tell their neighboors and they dont believe and send his family to a asylum but when they are in the asylum they ask: "why are you here?" Then they say:"robots destroyed our home and nobody believed" then the entire asylum laughts at them. then another two transformers crash into the asylum and later the entire asylum is send to another asylum. End.

Each new show/movie sparks a new generation of fans. I was introduced to Transformers with the movies and continued with the lore of other Transformers media. Ironically, my favorite Optimus' are as follows:
1: G1 Prime
2: Optimus Primal (I know he's not really a version of Optimus Prime, but come on, he's just as noble, skilled, and heroic as any other Prime.)
3: Aligned Prime
