- My husband and 7 children love this bread! In this video, I'm making homemade, whole grain bread from freshly ground wheat and spelt! Freshly milled grains are easily obtained by using a grain mill. I've had my NutriMill since 2009 and it's still going strong! All of my whole grains and the honey used in this recipe were purchased through Azure Standard. Recipe below!
Be sure to check our our family's store on Amazon! You can even buy a NutriMill from there. That way, you get a great product and our family earns a small commission. Just click the link below, then click Household & Kitchen to find the items we use in our own home and recommend to others!

Wheat/Spelt Bread (makes 4 loaves)
Grind approximately 4 cups of whole grain spelt and 4 cups of whole grain hard red wheat.
To a KitchenAid mixing bowl, add 7 cups of the freshly milled spelt flour and 7 cups of the freshly milled hard red wheat flour. Then, add 1 rounded Tbsp. of sea salt and 1-1/2 rounded Tbsp. of dry yeast. Mix thoroughly. Add 1/2 cup olive oil and 2/3 cup honey. Finally, add 4 cups of hot water to all other ingredients. Briefly mix everything together, just enough to slightly incorporate all the ingredients together.
Place mixing bowl in KitchenAid mixer and knead for 10 minutes with dough hook. While the mixer is running, butter 4 loaf pans.
Remove mixing bowl from the KitchenAid and butter the countertop where dough will be formed into loaves. Divide the dough into four equal sections and form them into loaves. Place in greased pans.
Place pans in an unheated oven (with oven light on) and let dough rise for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes have passed, turn oven on to 350 degrees and set timer for 35 minutes. The bread will bake as the oven preheats and comes to temperature. Once golden brown, remove from oven and turn out of pans onto cooling racks. Once completely cooled, loaves can be frozen and then thawed out later as you need them. Enjoy!
I have to give you so much kudos as a parent and a homemaker and a woman!!! You have wonderful children and you are such an amazing person. I'm in awe of all of you. Sending you so much love from your biggest fan in England xxx

@@ozarkfamilyhomestead I wouldn't want to be anywhere else xxx
Your bread looks delicious. I love how you teach your kids all the things. You explain things very well. ❤
Aww, thank you Kim! I appreciate the kind words. One of these days I hope to have taught myself out of a job and the children will be capable of taking over everything! :)
I love how the kids help you. It makes a huge difference when they are out on their own.
Your family is blessed to have you taking care of them you feed them delicious healthy food ,you give them a wonderful education at home and make sure they get to have time for friends.. You give them all of you !! You are one fabulous mom and wife and you my dear should be proud of the person you are. God bless you Janice ❤️🙏🏻❤️
Having never heard of spelt grain and wheat berries, I watched with rapt attention as you ground, measured, mixed and baked your beautiful bread. I love watching your videos. Your children are a delight. Sending blessings from South Carolina..
I don't homeschool. I don't homestead. I have no intention of ever doing either one but I truly enjoy your content. So wholesome. You are a wonderful person and mother. Respect.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a sweet comment! It totally made me smile. I just love that we can have differences, but you can still see value in our lifestyle. Thank you for being an encourager!! 💕
Awesome!! that olive oil first and honey next technique is gold!!
I know it seems like such a simple thing, but I felt like Einstein when I figured out to do the oil FIRST and THEN the honey. :)
I always butter a measuring cup when measuring out peanut butter! That’s very helpful too!
@@katieconners1084 Thanks! That's definitely super-helpful! 💕
I have had my kitchen aid for about 8years, I was very fortunate to get mine free through points on my credit card,(also earned one for my daughter -in-law. I use to use bread makers but everyone prefers the kitchen aid bread. I use half wholemeal and half plain and now just know my mixture without fussy measuring.
Oh Helen, a free KitchenAid is great! I love it when I find a recipe that is "the one" and it just becomes a part of the family. Thanks for watching! :)
Great video. The best part is that you are sharing your skills with the next generation..you lovely daughter. Your a great mom and wife for sure.
Good looking bread! We are in the same position. With 5 boys.
Hi there! Thank you so much for checking out our channel. I'm your newest subscriber! (Just can't pass up other large family homesteading channels, you know?!?) :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead agreed. We subscribed also.
I subscribe on the second time I watched your beautiful family. So refreshing to see a sweet loving family. And no one is faking anything.. I just love it and can't wait to see what ever you want to share with all of us. I keep checking on your subscribers too.. I hope you get a million. So good luck. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
You are such a great teacher!! You explain things so I can understand it all!! Other people I have watched always leave me with questions, but I learn so much from all of your videos!! Thank you and God bless!!
Hello beautiful gorgeous family ❤️🤚 and may God continue to always be with you all 💗😇💯👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💯👍😇😇😇😇😇😇😇💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫🤲🤲🤲🤲🤲🤲🤲🤲👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏▶️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️🩹💕👍💯👍💯👍
Wow, your honey after oil hack is so immensely sharp! I love it!! Making life so much easier and wasting less. I also scrape everything out very carefully. Not only out of frugality but it's so much easier on the kitchensink. Also so smart to let your bread rise in the oven that's preheating. Janice you should write a book with all your tips and tricks on how to make kitchen life easier. I also saw you putting used utensils in a jar. That is also so very smart. Saves a lot of dishes and above all: always clean countertops! I'm sure you have lots more of these smart hacks. Tips and tricks on getting your children involved in cooking, etc You are sitting on a gold mine!
Aww, thank you so much your kind comment!! You made me smile so big! 💕
I really love how you teach!! The wheel of a car!!lol that tikled me so much!! So amazing... ill never think of bread shaping the same! And baking! I so love your channel! Thank you for everything you teach me!
My only question is how in the world your family of nine can eat off of only one loaf at a time? Each time I make homemade bread my family of TWO can wipe out the loaf in one sitting, lol! Love your family and your videos and while I'm a city dweller I still find them interesting. I grew up on a homestead so maybe they just bring back memories of happy times. Hope to see you around for many years to come. Have a great week!
Looking forward to trying this!
Awesome! Be sure to comment again and let me know how you liked it! :)
Enjoy your videos
I really do appreciate that, Donna! Thank you for taking the time to share kind words with us. :)
Heyyy! Miss Ozark..I sooo know thats right..waist not want not!❤👍This is sooo interesting / with the process of making bread..thanks for sharing!❤..the loaves looked so amazing! 🤤👍🤤& I'm so glad your feeling better/ those allergies is definitely up & running this year.she's too cute!❤🥰
Hello again! I'm finally feeling like the allergies may be lessening. They have come and gone for the last 3-4 days. I'm wondering if it's the oak trees blossoming that's causing all the sinus pressure? Anyhow, thank you so much for checking in with us! I SO appreciate you supporting our family! :)
A fantastic and loving mother and beautiful child making bread. I love it!
This bread looks amazing! Wish I was there to smell the delight in your kitchen.
❤ Jenny
I had an omg moment when you said about the oil then honey, brilliant!! Makes life easier. Will do that from now on. Love the way you teach Janice you explain it very well while having fun. Wow the bread looks delicious yummy 🍞 ❤️
Don't you feel like it's such a simple thing, but you still feel like you cracked some secret code when you heard it? I remember feeling like it was an amazing revelation when I first tried it out. :) Those simple things sure do make me happy!
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead it sure does. Measuring out honey is a sticky messy job. Love how now you have let me into this little secret 🤫 🤣
Oh yh, could you do a video of your homemade cream cheese please xxx
I will put that one on the list, Christina! Actually, we just learned how to make homemade cream cheese at the cheesemaking class Sarah and I attended recently. (The one we were driving home from when I crashed into the deer.) So, that's a new skill for me. We're getting a lot of cream right now from Daisy the cow, so we need to plan in time to make cream cheese. :)
Your KitchenAid look just like ours. The bread we won was delicious.🙂
I have watched others making bread and it didn't inspire me to try making it myself. You did though. You made it look fun. I've never made my own bread and I think I might give it a try. I think it was the slamming it on the counter thing that got me. It looked like a stress reliever.
I just love that you explain everything so well. It is so helpful. I am just loving your channel. Thank you.
Oh, thank you so much Kathy!! I'm just so giddy that people actually enjoy seeing the daily tasks that we undertake. I really appreciate you being here! :)
I enjoy you and your family. And I laughed about the oil and honey. just because I was delighted a few years ago when I figured it out!
Your homemade bread looks really delicious 😋. Love watching your videos. Show us your pantry where you store your food. Have a Blessed Day 😊.
Thank you so much for showing us how to make this bread.
You're very, very welcome! Thank you for watching and supporting our family's channel! :)
❤😊❤ That was so enjoyable to watch and now I want frsh bread! Ha ha ha, I guess I better get busy 😊
I also loved your oil/ honey trick!
That looks scrumptious 😋. All the food you make is scrumptious I bet. Anna does awesome job.
Aww Dolores, thank you for those kind words!! We really love this bread and I hope others devour it as well. I appreciate you taking the time to comment! :)
Thank you for the bread video. I need to try your recipe. I am new to your channel. We also have seven children, ages 14- 28 years old. I have done Shopping like you and so enjoy the encouragement. Have a wonderful evening.
Hi Susan, I'm so glad you found us and look forward to hearing more from you!! If you're able to try out the recipe, please let me know how it turned out for you. :)
Thank you for another great video!!
Soooo AMAZING!!! Thank you and FANTASTIC JOB, ANNA!!! ❤🙏🏼♥️
Thanks Jeanne!! I appreciate you supporting our family. I just love having cheerful helpers around. :)
I am excited to try your bread recipe! Thanks for sharing it.
Your bread looks amazing!❤❤❤
Beautiful grain bread tutorials!! The bread looked like a picture! Anna, you are a wonderful helper!! You will be making bread all by yourself before long. You are a smart girl….and very pretty. Hugs to you both! 🙏🏻❤️
Aww, thanks Vikki!! Yeah, one of these days I might be out of a job when my children can do all the things that I used to take care of! :)
You do such a great job. I'm no good baking bread.
Thank you for making this. My Dad loves bread (I'm super picky... my "favorite" store bought bread is the Pepperidge Farm Multi-grain bread), and I want to learn how to make some. I try to make a new recipe every so often, but I hate to cook. We both have health issues, so I know I need to get over that mentality. I hope to try this one day, it doesn't seem too difficult. God bless.
Thanks for commenting, Shayna!! I really do like this recipe. Some other recipes I've used called for specialty ingredients like soy lecithin or additional gluten. My preference is plain ingredients, so this one really jumped out at me. If you do try it, please let me know how it turned out! :)
Beautiful flowers ❤
Your instructions are really good
I am a granny that is trying to get better at baking bread !!!! 🤦♀️ I can cook a 8 course meal from scratch no problem. Bread sometimes it turns out sometimes it doesn’t !! Is there a reason you didn’t bloom your yeast ? Does that just depend on the type of flour or just the recipe? Thanks in advance for letting me pick your brain !!! 😁 God bless !!
Hi Melissa Lee!! You know, I never thought about blooming my yeast! I do that with my French Bread recipe, but not this one. I use the same type of yeast in both recipes too - active dry yeast. All I can say is that doing it this way works just fine! Thank you so much for watching and supporting our family! :)
I love these kinds of videos so much because it feels like I'm right there with you, hanging out, making bread! Do you get your grains from Azure Standard or somewhere else? Great tip on the oil for anti-sticky cups by the way! 😂
That makes me smile! I hope everyone feels like they're right there with me, just hanging out in the kitchen. :) Yes, I purchase my grains from Azure Standard. I haven't found anywhere else that even comes close in price to them.
I would love to see your gumbo recipe, I’ve been looking for a good one!
thanks for another great video
I want to now try bread
I actually requested a video today on this not knowing you already had one as I didnt realize there was more videos on my binge watching of your family. You are such a great teacher how you explain how to do stuff. I just started making homemade bread a year ago. I think you perfectly explained how to kneed the bread with the air pockets and your steering wheel technique. I would love to see how you made the french bread and to be honest all of the breads you make. Again, I can almost smell this video. I also never knew how to turn the grains into flour until i watched this. I think you have inspired me to order the whole grains. A link to your flour mill would be awesome if you could find one.
Hi Katie! Oh, how I wish you could smell the bread while watching the video! I haven't made a video on my French bread yet, but I do intend to at some point. We just set up an Amazon store last week, but I didn't add my grain mill to the list. Your comment reminded me to add it there, so thank you for that! If you click the link below and then click Household & Kitchen, you will see a list of all the products we use in our home and recommend to others. The grain mill should be near the top (as of today, at least.) Ordering through our family's Amazon store gives us a small commission while you purchase your products. :) www.amazon.com/shop/ozarkfamilyhomestead
You are excellent at describing and teaching! I’d love to know what your story is (did you grow homesteading?). Love from Maine ❤
very good video! Next time, can you slice a piece for us!!!
You should be a teacher, your videos are so well put together! I would love to know how to make youghurt from scratch if that's possible. The bread looks amazing. 🍞🫓🥰
Janice this is the video that everybody wants to see a day in the life of you from when you wake up to go to sleep and then do one and a day in the life of Sarah are in each one of your kids you know the older ones when do if your husband also that would be really awesome but we want to see you and Dana life of you from the time you wake up to the time you go to sleep what is your day consist of show all the good and bad parts
My mom always made homemade bread and I loved it I never learned how🤷🏼♀️. Your videos are great!!
Looks incredible ❤
Have you done a home tour or property tour yet? I think that would be a good video idea!
Our second video that we ever made was a super-quick tour of our homestead. I really should make a better video of it now that we actually have more people watching our channel. Thanks for the idea, Katie!! In the meantime, here's the link for the short little 4-minute video tour of the homestead though! ruclips.net/video/GlYsvYWKhu8/видео.html
Looks so good. You make it look so easy. Ty.
That looks so good
Looks great! Great to see the children learning.
Love this video Anna done a great job.
Thanks 😊❤
You're very welcome, Ruby! :)
Looks yummy
Do you but some butter on the top of the bread when it comes out of the oven my grandma use to so just wondering looks delish and love your videos
YUMMY!😊
I'm going to start baking bread again.. nothing smells better than fresh baked bread
Have you ever made new potatoes and peas with cream sauce? My gram and my mom used to make it when I was a child. I've never made it before. If you know how, can you make it?
i have the same grain mill and have found that a small (about 2 inch) brush works well to get the loose flour off the lid and the cup. Also, I have heard good and bad about the wheat berries from Azure Standard. Have you had any issues with the cleanliness of the wheat berries from Azure? Thanks
I do not know much about bread making nor have I heard of spelt. What is the purpose of using both grains? Is it only for the flavor of the bread, or do the 2 grains combined just make for a tastier bread?
That looks delicious 😋❤️
Thanks Sharon! It's a family favorite! :)
*Question?* Could you just add the Honey & Oil & Water mix together then add to the flour?
Way better than to buying bread 😁
I now know what spelt is. Where did you get the grinder from?
Hey Sherry! My grain mill is available on Amazon. We actually have it listed on our family's Amazon Store. This is the link for it. You'll just need to scroll down a bit to actually see the NutriMill. www.amazon.com/shop/ozarkfamilyhomestead/list/1MYVSG1271ZQ8?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d
Please make white bread for sandwiches thanks
I need to try this soon! What size is your kitchen aid?
Oh Leah, you ask hard questions!! All it says on there is KitchenAid Heavy Duty. I don't know...is there a Heavy Duty version that's tougher than a standard KitchenAid? I don't know! :)
I thought hot water would kill your yeast. What temperature is it when you add it?
👍🙂
Hi Kathy! :)
Make a video doing laundry
Thanks for the idea, Donna! :)
Why do younever eat pork?
We just feel like our bodies are better without it. 😁
I just can’t make bread
Looks so Yummy
It is so, so good, Mary! A lot of times, the children will beg to devour one whole loaf right after it comes out of the oven. Thanks for much for watching the video! :)
