  • This is a long boring video but one I believe needs to be on RUclips as the bridge is crazy hard to build but beautiful once complete. This is a fantastic addition to any layout. These bridges where plentiful in the golden age of railroads (1950's) and Walthers does a very detailed version. The instructions could be more focused and accurate but we are the greatest hobby. We have the skills to overcome. If you have any questions just drop a comment. The gear box is painful to build and install. Wiring is helped by a multimeter with skills to use it. I used the bridge over the entrance to my layout. I'm still unsure if this is a good idea but for a week now its worked flawlessly. I have considered a bar in-between the two tables to help with alignment but its a lot less fussy thank i originally expected.

Holy mackerel! Thanks a ton for this video, was asked to help assemble this kit in, particular the motor/electrics for a friend... Have not started yet, and SO glad I watched this first.
if you dont mind dumb questions...
What "DPDT switch" did you use to control this bridge?
and as I understand it, this kit is 6v, but the set its going into is 12v, is that common?... whats the best way to step down to 6v?

Great walk thru, thanks. Do you know how wide of an opening when an ho scale bridge is fully raised?

Building this now. I'm currently at 107 colorful metaphors. I did catch the big gear reversal. The hard way. ಠ_ಠ
A lot of filling and sanding, but overall it's a decent kit. Just a bit dated.

Just me, I would have kept and read the instructions very carefully in this case....like that there's not any yammering of useless talk to fill the time, just slides to highlight.

Seems rather dumb to: 1) Throw away the instructions, like you're a Master bridge builder, and 2) Pre-cut all pieces away from their sprues, as they have part numbers stamped on them that correspond to the instructions... But you don't need those numbers cuz you're a Master bridge builder, and you tossed the instructions away... You build all models by SHEER BRAIN POWER... BRILLIANT...

I used a multi meter to figure out which way the diode goes. The micro switch interupts the power. After that has happened the diode gives it power only one way. That way needs to be the way to unlock the micro switch. I used trial and error on both micro switches. I found the instructions confusing. As for the dual switch. Positive and negative go in. Middle no power. Up switch positive negativie. Down switch negative positive.
