I was an Ambulance Officer, I am shocked that a Police Officer would make such a comment after this man reported/witnessed such an horrific crime scene.
Sutcliffe mutilated the body when he went back early hours Sunday morning. Bruce found her later that day. Next day, Monday, back in Bradford, 20yo Carol Wilkinson was murdered on her way to work. Sutcliffe knew her, Sutcliffe had pestered her in the past and was told by her stepfather to keep away. A young lad was convicted of Carol's murder but would later be acquitted after serving 19yrs. Sutcliffe was her killer. He never admitted to it, but he did it, and Ripper detectives later said he appeared agitated whenever her name came up during questioning. He also told police he was convinced the £5 note would be his downfall, so he probably wasn't thinking straight when he killed Carol - his MO didn't match the Ripper's MO. But his next victim, Yvonne Pearson, would be killed in a similar way to Carol, and Sutcliffe wasn't at work that Monday morning. He didn't clock in till Monday afternoon. He definitely killed more than the 13 he was convicted of.

Now, looking again, most articles say she was found Monday the 10th. Which makes sense, because Sutcliffe probably still had the bloodlust in him from the night before. So, yes, he did go back Sunday night and Bruce found the body on Monday.

She got really upset and realised me and her had crossed paths with him not far from Belanglo a about a year before he was arrested and it was a public place full of people and he was so rude and arrogant and profane and I was with her She left with me in the car saying he was a bad man very rude and told me to stay away from bad people like that She didn't tell me at the time.but she was intimidated by his aura and felt his rudeness was not something i as a four year old should be seeing Then she saw his face again on tv Remembered where we'd encountered him and was shocked to the core Now there's tv and films and books based on his crimes and infamy

New documentary on Ch5 this week where Bruce Jones is interviewed; he says her body hadn't been there the previous five times before he found her - that her body had been placed just before he went back. Here, he says he unknowingly went over the body five times. The most interesting thing though is that he supposedly saw Peter Sutcliffe watching from the bushes when he found her - no mention of that here at all.
I think this incident severely traumatized him and he is remembering things that simply did not happen eg seeing someone in the bushes looking at him as described in the Channel 5 programme . The 'burned hair' thing is obviously untrue aswell.

It was probably the best thing for him that he went to punch the police officer because that’s the strongest emotion usually on display when a person is innocent. Had he simply said ‘you’re joking’ or ‘that’s not true’ he would more likely have gained suspicion that he was in fact involved.
