A powerful symbol of King Arthur's rule was his sword Excalibur. It had been forged from magical metal by the Lady of the Lake, long before Arthur was born. The wizard Merlin plunged the blade into a stone -- no one could pull it out, except the man who was destined to become Britain's mightiest king. Many tried to claim it, but it stayed rooted... until a young squire (Arthur) pulled it out almost by accident. People were shocked -- but Merlin knew that the King Sword was finally in the right hands.
