    very educative video! do you use a grooved mandrel to trim the ring to the right size? do I need a specific mandrel to do that?

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  Месяц назад

      Thank you! They're called wax ring cutting mandrel's. They make it a lot easier to carve the inside of the ring to size. Mine's a goofy looking homemade one but it still works great. 👍

    Great work mate !! what's the thing you do at the end after the sandpaper ??

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  Год назад

      Thank you! After sanding, I applied some odorless mineral spirits (that's what was on the Q-tip) and then buffed the surface to give it that glossy finish. 😁

    Always helps to get a reminder that precision is (and always has been) achievable by handwork. Loved the music track as well, brought back old SCA memories. Is there a way to find out the track, or is it your own?

      Thank you! The music track is from Epidemic sound. It's called Where the Thistle Grows by Bonnie Grace.

    Hi there!
    I'm making a ring and I got really inspired by you're technic and your desing and I would love to know if you could answer some questions!
    First of all, what is the name of the shield shape and what does it mean?
    How do you smothen the wax with the cotton applier?
    What grid number of sand paper did you used?
    Hope you can help me!
    Thanks for sharing your amazing work!

      240 or 360 grit is good sandpaper - maybe up to 800. Then using a scalpel/xacto knife to scrape out the remaining scratches. He doesn't use this next step here but what I do is scrub the surface with a fibre glass pen and then after that rub it with a piece of nylon stocking - it will actually turn out much shinier than he has it here.

    Great video and the ring came out perfect. I would like to ask if you could tell me the name of this tool 1:48 (English is not my native language)

      Thank you for watching! That is a wax ring reamer used for sizing the ring.

    Thanks for the video, and great work! Two tools you're using at 5:27 and 6:47 I haven't seen before. Did you make those, or what are they called?

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  Год назад +2

      Thank you for watching! They are both homemade. The one at 5:27 is a little graver type tool for cutting in groves and the other at 6:47 is just a little scraping tool. I have a separate video on my channel, showing how I made them if you're interested 😁
