Pro tip: to get lower ratio, reduce the incoming audio signal level into the compressor and use deeper threshold instead. (use the Level Cal knob, top right corner)
This. A vari mu has a level dependant ratio, that is why this works.

Not even close.
I prefer the White Noise Audio channel over (this guy's) White Sea Studio channel, mostly because of this guy's bleh personality and limited interactivity with commenters. And then of course there's Dan Worrall and Mixing with Mike.
First one in a long time where I said "wow" out loud. Then said it a few more times during the demo. I haven't bought anything in a long time but I think I may just buy this. I'm impressed.
The "Look at this! Woah" moment sent my dog into barking mode 😆. I am also going to try this thing out because the coloring sounded amazing even on my crappy laptop speakers.
The rather subtle saturation and it's coloration is reminding me of Kush plugins.
Didn't heard about that company before, but damn, thats one hell of a great plugin.

Simple digital feedback usually needs at least a one sample delay. For the most part, that's not enough to mention, but it's definitely a longer delay than you'd get in analog feedback. Course, feedback compression is mathematically indistinguishable from feedforward compression with a clean blend, which requires no delay at all.

Kazrog's got something up it's sleeve...interesting that this plugin is being reviewed. I'd hold on spending money on this until Kazrog releases their next plugin.

Oh man..... I can't decide if this or the Magic Death Eye Stereo is the way to go. Im leaning towards Islander just because its newer and MDE is a couple years older and Im guessing the technology might be better as plugins get better year to year. Any thoughts??

9:34 yes imagine using a sidechain as the detection and using it self as the sidechain post FX ( you can actual route it in a daw and tranform a feed forward to a feed back)

I can answer about feedback compression in digital its a sum at the end of the algorithm in feed forward its input * compressed input in feedback its output * compressed input (laymans terms much more complex if you look at the whole algo)
The price is half of what I was expecting, so that’s nice.
Is it better than Tokyo Dawn's Molot?
Would love to see a Vari-Mu battle pushing those plugins to the limit. Especially if it includes my boy MagicDeathEye, I try to take it off my chain but it always comes back
It's really good to hear good things about MagicDeathEye. I've been intrigued to try it, especially since getting DDMF's new GrandEQ, which is about as clean and effective EQ as I've used.
@@BF-up5xw Wow, GrandEQ actually looks exactly how I wanted an analog style EQ to look. Gotta give it a try. As for MagicDeathEye, please try it. I've been using both the normal and stereo mastering versions (despite the different models, both are stereo) for years. I just can't take it off my chain, I get great compression from it with a fraction of time, interface real state and CPU usage of most other compressors.

I was planning to do a very in-depth test of different (mostly Fairchild-style) vari mu software compressors actually.
Somewhat similar to what Hasan Delen has performed, but with plenty of different settings, test types, gain staging, etc.
The video is still in the planning phase though as I'm trying to get the most comprehensive and comparable test results.

Hey Wytse, he's just using the Focus button to change any parameter that his mouse pointer is hovered over.
It has a great sound. Definitely not like any other I have. The DEMO only lasts 3 min on my system then just zero outs. No warning. It says 10 min for the demo on the plugin to start and on the website

Why are there not enough Shure level loc style limiters, the only one I can find is devil loc, and maybe decapitator if you’re reaching, seems like there should be more competition

I generally don't mix anything slow enough for Vari Mu compressors, but this sounds good to my ears anyway.

How would you compare this to the Pulsar MU Comp?
I did a quick shootout with the demo Vs MU. They sound different, both great. Mu excelled more at the warm gluey vibe, the islander had a bit more range of what it could do and was capable of some faster snappier compression to my ear (for a Vari-Mu). It’s attack and release seem more program dependent and it feels a little more idiot proof to me in that all the settings are just different flavors of good. The saturation is very different from Mu, and it can get a brighter sound without being hash. Both are good, and after trying the demo I want to buy it not as a replacement for Mu but as another good option to have in some situations.

Sorry to hear you still haven't mastered your UF-8. You have to change the control knob mode to plugin to get it to act as your mouse wheel button.(depressing it). The plugin has to support mouse wheel scroll controls for it to work. Test by hovering over a plugin control and using the scroll wheel to change parameters. If you're successful, then the UF-8 can control it. I use the encoder section on my left UF8 as transport control and my right UF-8 as plugin control. 😊
I use the loupedeck ct for that and a lot more… it’s so versatile and needs less deskspace 👍🏽
@@frankbohle755If you're a podcaster or streamer then yes. The Loupedeck looks like a toy sadly. I would be hard pressed to see anyone incorporating one of those into a serious studio, home or professional.

That "μ" Mu thing is pronounced incorrectly .... its Manleys way to name the Variable Delta compressor but keep in mind that the Greek letter " μ" refers to gain ane its pronounced

It sounds good, but the oversampling setting on the plugin GUI has no effect. At least with the AU version on my Mac. While at the same time external oversampling is working. Strange...

Shame, was looking forward to your review. Personally I love the uc1 and recent picked up a uf8 secondhand. If you use the channel strip plugins then the operation of the uf8 becomes quite marvellous, though I can see why some people are put off with its basic Makie mode.
I read that this company is Ukrainian based but the website says they have since relocated to... somewhere else. I already own most of the popular compressor plugins but maybe i will purchase this plugin if any proceeds go to repelling Russia from Ukraine.

seems kinda biased. aren't there a lot of other plugins that can do the same thing? good and subtle is not really enough, the plugins we use are already doing that.

It's unfair to companies or viewers to use an analyzer and create a conclusion based on that. If you can't hear with your ears, there's something wrong. At a point, this becomes like a weird 'quality' control where you're putting it through a machine and letting the machine judge. We're musicians, and we can use our ears.

But isn't it just a plain old digital compressor and not a great analog modeled compressor? As it he's no saturation or anything on it. Every single piece of analog kit does have those things. And each one is unique because of that and why we want plugin versions of it, and why your studio is all analog! So where the analog saturation here? I don't see it, and in youtube am certainly not gonna hear it.... Soooo basically it's just a standard compressor you get in your daw that's wrapped in an analog box. Not sure why you like it.
