    At least today they have camelbacks for water...back in 1990 when I was in basic it was just carrying a full canteen in your side cargo pocket, that really sucked when you were running, the side of your leg would always be black and blue every night...ahh the good ole days.

    I think I spotted DS Doyale in there, I wasnt in 795 but I was in E 1-58 and he came out to help my company when we were short staffed. I was the first one he "picked" on because I could hardly do push ups, he got down next to me and started doing them with me, showing me how to keep going even when your arms feel like they're giving out. He was a good man along with the other DS of E 1-58, best summer of my life.

    • @freedomlover9560
      @freedomlover9560 5 лет назад +6

      Oh, god I know. We had two in our Company and I could have sworn they both had balls.
      However, one of them came around to every single one of us in the chow line on graduation day, looked us in the eye and congratulated us as she shook our hands.
      When she got to me, I instinctively (due to her being female) grasped her hand loosely. She smiled and said "You're a man, now! Grasp that damn hand!" Once I did, her smile got bigger and said, "Now THAT'S how a Soldier shakes a hand!" I looked her in the face and said "Thank you, Drill Sergeant!"
      I figured, what the hell I'm graduated. She shocked me by smiling even bigger, slapping me on the shoulder and said "Ah, I'll let that one pass, Smithers. You're one of us now."
      Ever since then, I have always had a firm handshake and think of her every single time I extend that right hand.
      People say Drill Sergeants are just assholes.
      Bullshit, they care about you and show it.

    No one is more professional than I. I am a noncommissioned officer, a leader of Soldiers. As a noncommissioned officer, I realize that I am a member of a time honored corps, which is known as "The Backbone of the Army". I am proud of the Corps of noncommissioned officers and will at all times conduct myself so as to bring credit upon the Corps, the military service and my country regardless of the situation in which I find myself. I will not use my grade or position to attain pleasure, profit, or personal safety.
    Competence is my watchword. My two basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in my mind-accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my Soldiers. I will strive to remain technically and tactically proficient. I am aware of my role as a noncommissioned officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. All Soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership; I will provide that leadership. I know my Soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own. I will communicate consistently with my Soldiers and never leave them uninformed. I will be fair and impartial when recommending both rewards and punishment.
    Officers of my unit will have maximum time to accomplish their duties; they will not have to accomplish mine. I will earn their respect and confidence as well as that of my Soldiers. I will be loyal to those with whom I serve; seniors, peers, and subordinates alike. I will exercise initiative by taking appropriate action in the absence of orders. I will not compromise my integrity, nor my moral courage. I will not forget, nor will I allow my comrades to forget that we are professionals, noncommissioned officers, leaders!

      ItzNickyBoy ? i plan on it this year i’m joining but you go play college football with two a days for a complete summer with constant workouts then enter fall camp for a complete month with workouts, field workouts everyday! then you compare

      ItzNickyBoy ? Who you? Yeah I know 😂 to me they have similarities, college football workouts are A LOT harder & way more demanding than any physical exercise in the military in my opinion! The military expects more from you mentally yes I admit but so does college football so personally I feel that completing BMT in any branch would not be difficult at all compared to playing college football & having to push your body year round with Winter workouts, Spring football, Summer workouts, Fall camp which is 3-4 weeks long at some schools & a 11 week season. Intensely demanding year round.. Wow you get yelled at by a drill sergeant & have to do some physical exercises that’s easy, the hardest part in my opinion is having to adapt to the schedule & learning the military life that is the only thing I will admit that is going to be hard. Other than that I find that BMT will be a piece of cake compared to playing college football

      Our DS called it a “feel good” patch. I’m still not sure what the point of it was. It went away as soon as we got to AIT.

      andrew gaps that’s pretty sad. You don’t forget where your platoon forms up everyday and who your Senior drill sergeant is.

      Patches to know their platoon? How do you forget what platoon you’re in? 1) That’s one of the best parts of basic when you see that one guy stumbling from platoon to platoon. 2) You literally eat, sleep, and shit next to the same dude’s for 10 weeks straight, so it is near impossible to forget which platoon you’re in.
