Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I run an older Maggiolina since selling the teardrop. It has the crankup system vice the spring/shock lifters like this. Takes a bit longer and more effort to crank but the alignment issue does not arise. I've not found the ventilation to be an issue as the wind generally only comes from one direction vice all 4 at the same time but variable winds may lead to the issue you describe. Watching to see what comes next.

Great look at your tent set up.I love the winter bag

Thank you. I love this sleeping bag, it’s insanely comfortable, but packing it isnt easy. That’s why the ability to store it inside the tent is critical for me.

I have the Sparrow XL, and agree that it’s a bear to close, especially alone but even with two people. It’s a significant issue on an SUV. (I’m not willing to stand on the front hood like the guy in the video.)
Also agree with the observation that if it rains outside, you almost certainly have to close all the outside flys (to prevent the inside getting wet), and then you have zero air circulation.

I've never been sold on the roof top tent. I see the pro's of them, but ground tents for me. I've also got a Teton -35C bag.... yup it's big, but super warm.

lol yeah sorry unfortunately content will slow down a bit over the winter ... but I still have at least 1-2 trips planned and a couple of ideas for some more reviews

You're right, it does look good but airflow and privacy are so important. Do you have to put the ladder in the jeep or do you tie it on top? I have the Firefly from Wild Coasts Tents and love it.

There is a bag that comes with the ladder that can be clipped inside the tent so it doesn’t move around. I used to keep it in there but I ended up using the ladder by itself for other things too so I started to keep it in the Jeep.

So if you have a vehicle where you can't walk all over it, it's not really a good tent to buy?

    • @NorthBoundExpeditions

It would definitely be more tricky on a 4Runner or other vehicle that doesn’t have a way of reaching up on the rack. It definitely wouldn’t be as easy to take it down and set it up with restricted access.

Good review, Virgil. You raise good points about hard shell RTT regardless of brand or model #. One would want to be cautious about a foam mattress topper though. It would suck up moisture like the sponge it is, and could lead to mold problems.
Question: Was there much depreciation on the ROOF NEST? Or did you get a pretty good price for it?

    • @NorthBoundExpeditions
      @NorthBoundExpeditions  3 года назад

True, a foam topper could be an issue with moisture. Well I only got 50% of what I paid for it but I think if I had sold it in the states I could have got more for it.

Great video, thanks for the info, I have one question about the Roof rack, how much weight can you carry there.. considering you are opening and closing the tent, can you catually carry your luggage and bags there? or is it more for something like a surfboard and light stuff like that ?

Thanks, the tent could still open with a duffel bag on it. The struts were actually quite strong.

Do you store the tent when not in use? If so do you have a system for lifting and would you mind sharing?

This one I sold before the winter. But I’ve built a hoist system with an ATV winch in my previous garage with a few pulleys.

Yes I have considered it and I would love to go that route. If I could justify the cost it would be the way to go for sure.

@@NorthBoundExpeditions Yea they are expensive I looked into them there about 6 to 7 thousand for the JL, but the are cool

@@seange4089 definitely. To get one to Canada and after the import and taxes and shipping and conversion, it would be closer to $18-20K for us.
